I have good news and bad news for you: The good news is that I have have the reg. of the A/C flown, the bad news is that neither this time, a lavatory picture is available.
This trip report takes place on august the 31st. to sept. the 1st. And please bear in mind (again) that these pictures weren't taken with a trip report in mind, and that +three years has passed. So certain details may be rusty.
And remember that this was the first business class flight I've ever been to, so unlike some of you people who fly business/first more often than I chance my underwear; I was a bit more flabbergasted at first!
But now, sit back and enjoy!
Back in ealy 2009, my highschool pal and I decided to go on a 6 months "Working holiday" in Australia before beginning our 8 months. army draft the next year. My friend, comming from a more wealthy family convinced me about flying business class. I was a bit reluctant at first to blow off most of my savings on a business class ticket, but I was fnally convinced.
In retro perspective, this trip to Australia was without doubt the most stupid thing I've ever done, and I still shudder when thinking back. I'm starting to feel old when I sometimes think: "Man were I young and dumb back then" and I'm only 22 now haha.
Ps. If you haven't already done so, please head over to my first trip report featuring Kenya Airways: My First Trip Report! NBO-AMS With Kenya Airways. (by Fallap Jan 2 2013 in Trip Reports)
Anyways, here it is!
A/C: Airbus A380-800
Req: VH-OQC (Entered service on November 27, 2008)
Departure: 1215 from Terminal 4
Class of travel: Business Class
Load in Business: Around 80%
After a night at the Holiday Inn at London Heathrow airport, my friend and I arrived to Terminal 5. Everything went smooth, however we had forgot a minor detail mailed to us by Qantas the month before; That Qantas would fly from Terminal 4! EEEK!
And since time wasn't excactly in our favor, we had to rush to the terminal train. And as some of you people know:
Physical activity + jacket + backpack = SWEAT! Thats right, when we reached T5 I was soaked in sweat and looked like I had been swimming between terminals...
When my friend and I, two odd backpackers lost in Heathrow appeared infront of the young female check-in agent, who looked at us in disbelief, this conversation began:
Me: "Good morning, we would like to check in plese" *Places passports and E-ticket on the desk"
Agent: "Sir, are you SURE you are in the right lane, pointing towards the economy check-in with her eyes"
Me: "Yes, we are flying business class" Smiling
Agent: "Oh you are, sorry about that, here is your boardingcards, fast track is that way. Have a nice flight" *points at the large sign saying "Fast Track"
Me: "Thank you have a nice day."
So we went through security, and I rushed to buy a clean T-shirt, sox and pants. And then headed to the British Airways lounge at gate 1, and had a shower. It felt fantastic!
Mhmm!!! I settled with a modest Coca Cola though, didn't want to spoil my appetite with liquer hehe.
Thats our flight! Better head to the gate.
Whale Whale Whale... who do we got here...
Yep! Thats our bird!
Feed the whale!
Thats us! No red carpet though, I guess thats reserved for people flying First.
I felt like Jonas from the Bible, although this whale trip would certainly be more comfortable.
Getting settled in with a nice glass of OJ, the choice was between OJ, Champagne and water. Cheers!
Lets see what the IFE has to offer.
UIH! The Simpsons!
Chatting with my friend, neat feature.
Departure was delayed for around an hour due to a no show's luggage, having to be removed. Had I been sitting in coach I would have been a bit annoyed. But not on business class! I just slided by seat back and took a nap. The guy next to me with his wife was snoring!
Take-off roll was the longest I've ever tried, but we made it into the air!
Oh look, we are already over the channel!
Breakfast menus were also distributed for the next morning.
Soon after the starter was served, I can't remember what it was excactly. But it tasted alright
Australian wine, mhmm! The FA managed to spill a glass over my friends lap... Fortunatly he had a pair of shorts in his carry-on.
Time for dinner! Yummy! I believe it was lamb with delicious gravy and salad. It tasted great Notice that the knife is made of plastic. Is this common or due to Qantas/Australias policies?
And now desert! It was a delicius warm cake with cream
Chilling in the lounge, I had a short chat with the F/O. Nice fella!
The stewardesses were absolutly gorgeous! One was a thin blonde with legs that would never end, the other a cute asian girl! Meoooow! Being 18 and packed with hormones: it was hard not to notice them
And not to forget, the mandatory homosexual male purser were also here, a very kind man who seemed to enjoy his job! He helped us with the getting the IFE screens up.
Self-service bar, how convenient!
After the delicious three-course meal, I liberated some candy, fruit and a glass of champagne and retreated to my seat. I watched Braveheart whil cruising over Central Asia. The great tv screen and those awesome noise-canceling headphones made it an epic experience! Unlike certain others *Cough* KQ *Cough*
Getting comfortable with the Simpsons and my Qantas blanket
Time fly! Approaching Singapore for our short stop-over.
Feeding and fueling our whale, for our final flight to Sydney. The stopover took rougly 1½ hours. It was interesting to see the coach passengers looking like hung cats, while me and my friend were fairly well rested. I couldn't wait to get back inside!
In one month I would be onboard a simmilar A/C from SQ
Fancy shell design!
A friendly asian man dressed in a suit approached me and said:
Asian guy: "Mr. Jensen, how do you do sir?"
Me: "Well hello mr. *forgot his name* I'm doing fine, how about you?"
Asian guy: "Fine sir, thanks for asking. Here are your immigration papers to Australia, if you have any questions, don't hestitate to contact me.
And then he vapored into a cloud of smoke...
... or maybe he retreated back to the purser. Very kind man, I felt very special ( Although he did the same to everyone else hehe.
My friends starter, it tasted great according to him.
My starter! Some tasty meat with unknown extra plus a salad.
YUMMY STEAK for me!
No more pictures for you! But the landing went smooth. I had a wonderfull nap until an hour before landing. We arrived well rested to Sydney.
First trip with Qantas and first time on business! I can't go back to coach now! Or atleast I felt back in 2009 hehe.
Thanks for reading!
