Well it was back to Sacramento again, this time for a fun filled weekend!

Doesn’t the day of work before a vacation always suck? So much to do and so little time to do it! I was trying to sneak out of work a little early, because I had to drop my car off at my house so my sister could borrow it for the weekend. I left work at 4:45 and headed for home. At 5pm, Marilynn and Kara picked me up and we headed for the airport. Traffic northbound was not too bad as we made our way to SLC. The Departures curb at SLC was a mess as everyone was trying to head out for the weekend. The girls checked their bags curbside and I left for Long Term Lot B. When I returned, I used the Kiosk check-in and then headed upstairs for security. Marilynn and Kara were waiting and we breezed through security.
We grabbed some dinner at Sbarro and headed for the E gates and the Skywest terminal. What a circus! There were people everywhere, and flights leaving one right after the other. The announcements over the speaker did not stop. Apparently, their announcements are recorded and played at the next available time slot on the intercom. It’s funny to listen to them. They called our flight while we were eating our Pizza, and then quickly the final call came… It doesn’t take long to board a CRJ… We made the long walk all the way down to the end of the gates and walked out and said hello to our CRJ. It was in the New-New colors. While we were waiting for the last few to climb the stairs, Skywest’s newly painted plane, the 30th anniversary plane! It passed by and parked next to us. Nice colors!
We taxied to 16L and waited for a 737 to take off. We were next and then off we went. I watched out the window as we climbed through the clouds above the Great Salt Lake, and then headed west towards SMF. While climbing, we saw what looked like a small Cessna far below us as we easily overtook the small plane. The Skywest snack service started with Kitty, our FA. Choices were the snack mix, or “Coaches Cranberry Oatmeal” cookie. I had the cookie with some Cran-Apple. The cookie was delicious. When Kitty was done, she passed through the cabin again, asking if anyone would like anything else. (I’ve never seen this done on any mainline Delta flight!) I asked for another cookie! Yumm. I took some time to catch up on some sleep and awoke as we made our initial descent into the Sacramento area. The rice fields were an incredible sight as the captain lined up with 16L. (I think there’s a 16R but I could be wrong!)
Touchdown was smooth in the CRJ and we taxied to A1. I waited behind so I could see the cockpit and talk with the pilots. They were very friendly and said they loved the CRJ. In their words, “It’s the little sports car of Airplanes; It’s a blast to fly!” The weekend was great. We spent it up on Lake Oroville on Marilynn’s Dad’s houseboat. We rode the Sea-Doo’s and went wake boarding. Lot’s of open water swimming too! (I have a triathlon next weekend in Idaho) Most of all, it was just relaxing! Fantastic.
Flight Number: Delta 2068 Boeing 757-200

Monday early afternoon, and back to a somewhat chaotic SMF. We arrived with 40 minutes to kill before our flight so we had a bite to eat at the Chinese place at the food court. Not too good! By the time we finished, they had already called our row, so we walked right on the airplane. Our 757 was painted in the new-old colors. Upon boarding, I noticed that this plane had a wierd arrangement. The seats came right up to the door, and the galley was forward of the boarding door. Usually when you board the second door in the 757, you walk right into the galley, but we were behind the galley. I asked the FA about it and she said that it was a “modified 757” How many other DL 757’s are like this? Anyway I took the window seat, and prepared to watch the mighty 757’s wings in action. Pushback was right on time and we taxied to Rwy 16. I watched the big flaps move into takeoff position and then sat back to enjoy the takeoff. We took off quickly and climbed steeply to the gentle humm of the 757’s engines. Climb-out was of course, impressive. The captain came on and warned us of the bumpy ride ahead as we approached Salt Lake City.
Snack service was started with poopie pretzels and Cranberry juice to drink. I didn’t bother with the pretzels, but instead watched the Delta Horizons. I love the “Just Joking” bit that they do that is like the candid camera show. It’s the third time I’ve seen it and the situations are quite funny! Our bumpy descent was just as the captain described it. Scattered clouds over the Salt Lake city area made our approach quite fun. We made several turns to line up with 34L and bounced down 10 minutes early. Overall, a nice flight; although, it’s hard not to have a good flight on a 757!

Great Report, I ate at that Sbarro too on July 27, they actually roll out the dough and stuff right in front of you. That "Just Joking" bit was pretty funny, it was the only reason to put on the headphones.
