Once I was finally able to obtain my boarding passes for BA and ensure that my bags were correctly checked to DAR, I just decided to wait around Concourse D until the flight was ready to board. Overall, I must say that I really like ZRH airport. The service people were all very nice and the facilities are clean and modern.

I had no idea this viewing area existed!

My flight to LHR was full to the brim. I ended up getting the third to last row in the aircraft, which is fine since I had a long connection in London of about 3 hours. Drinks and snacks were served soon after take-off.

We arrived in a foggy London and parked at one of the domestic gates at T5, so busses picked us up and took us to the terminal for processing. About 15 minutes after arriving in T5, I was already checked though passport control and security screening. I went to check on my flight to DAR, but it would not be posted for another hour and a half or so, so I bought some food, found a quite place in the terminal, reading my book until the designated time.

We ended up leaving from T5B, gate 45A. This would be my second time flying on a BA 767, but this would be the first time I’ve taken BA to Africa, which is why I thought it would be a good flight to report on…also since this flight will be cancelled at the end of March!

I was welcomed on board the aircraft by two of the flight attendants who were showing people their seats. I passed through the outdated Club World cabin, then the World Traveller Plus cabin before making it my seat in row 17. Pillows, blankets, and headsets were already sitting on the seat for everyone. Based on the number of people waiting at the gate when boarding started, I had a hunch that the flight wouldn’t be full. As I sat in my seat, I kept scoping opportunities for additional space…granted, I was in 17F with no one in the middle seat, so there was space…I just wanted 3 seats to myself so I could lay flat to sleep! About 15 minutes before departure, I walked to the back and noticed that there were many empty seats…I asked the FA if this was supposed to be a fairly empty plane to which he replied “If you want some of these seats, I would move right after we close the door”….which is exactly what I did. I returned to my seat and gathered my things to make a quick jump for the back section of the World Traveller section once I heard the announcement. When it was called I jumped up and walked to the back, and to my luck, I was able to get a row! I gathered pillows from nearby empty seats to make my “bed” for the flight, right before we started to push back from the gate. We taxied to the runway and eventually took-off on 27L.

Dinner. I took the Chicken option…notice how they have the “Africa” themed entry!

The meal was quite good! Way better than anything I’ve had on United.

I’ve been to DAR a few times before (previously taken KL, LX, and MS) and I think BA has had the best service. Although I will say that I can see why they are ending the flight since the plane wasn’t full…even after some people shifted around, there were still quite a few empty seats. However, I wonder why they wouldn’t tag this flight onto another city. For example, KL offers AMS-JRO-DAR, and MS will offer CAI-DAR-HRE in June.

Overall, as I’ve previously mentioned, the service on BA is quite good. While the flight times aren’t the best for connections with the US, and given the fact that I’m pretty Star Alliance loyal, I’m certainly glad I had an opportunity to take this flight! On my next trip to DAR I’m hoping to try out ET.

A pack of crisps and a coke is what they gave from ZRH to LHR? Oh dear, LX gives you a nice sandwich, those fresh sandwiches are very good. BA usually sends an A319 to ZRH whilst LX sends A320 or even A321.

It's not really hard to offer a meal better than UNITED or AA.

I agree with you the meals on BA are in my view good. At least they make an effort while the US carriers try their best to make these meals as awful as possible.

The only thing I don't like on BA is the tight 31" legroom. The US carriers are also all down to 31."

Yes, when compared with the likes of AA, BA is good. However, they only serve you a pack of crisps and a drink from ZRH to LHR, that is worth about 1pound in total. At least LX caters for the same route with something more substantial - a handmade sandwich with fresh bread baked by a swiss bakery.

Great report. Glad the food was good, though I have to say the presentation is rather grim.

How was the crew on both legs?

Short report but nice and covers the facts.

- Is this a route inherited from bmi? - not too good with BA and Africa. The overall loads must be poor for then to cancel a route.

I passed through the outdated Club World cabin

- Ah, a pre updated cabin, the refurbished ones are really quite nice.

Catering looks pretty good IMO.

Cheers

I'm not going to complain since it was free...better than getting nothing!

True. However, when i flew EBB-BRU, that had to have been the worst airline meal i've ever had. I wish I took a picture of it.

The crews were very nice. A little more accomodating on the LHR-DAR flight.

No, from what can remember this had been flown by BA for some time. Shame they're cancelling it rather than adding a tag to somewhere else.

As Mark wrote that is a short TR but it concentrates all the essentials.
To be honest, i was really curious to see their product on board to/from East Africa since i've got enough avios to spent on a one way trip. What the Africa themed main course consists of exactly? some spicy stuffs?

Excellent idea but i still remain puzzled about the cancellation of the route. For how long BA have been operating the route?

Many thanks for sharing, looking forward to read the ET report
