Hi Suryo !

Thanks for another amazing report with amazing pictures !

Great surprise for you that you got to fly on a 77L instead of an 330! It's usually a very nice kick-in-the-butt take off experience on a DOH-DXB flight since the plane is usually very light for such a very short flight.

The flight is so short that there's not much service but nice to get something.

The hotel looks amazing !

Nice to see pictures from Burj Khalifa again!

Looking forward to your next report!

Hi Suryo,

Thanks for this pleasant read! Qatar definitely continues to amaze me: pillow and blanket, drink service,... on such a short hop? Amazing. Another excellent report, thank you for sharing it with us.

What super service you got on QR for such a short flight & the transfer in Doha seemed very smooth. I enjoyed your pics of Dubai too, certainly a place we should visit one day. Hi Suryo,

good to read your trip on QR in Y. That is the most common way to travel for most of us, and it's good to have a view on this product which is very good I think. Though, QR is very limited in food offer, these hot wraps are given on every flight of them, also the longhauls as second (or first) service, depending on the time of the day.
QR was out of yellow boarding pass covers for transit, on all my flights, so their system is not working either with the colors as presented in the video. Aside from that, the old DOH airport is a major disgrace and not nice at all, taking away 4 of 5 stars from this quality airline.
I must say, the hardware is good, I enjoyed flying the 77W and A346 on QR. The A330-300 was old though, with trouble in the IFE system from time to time. The good legroom makes up for that, and the G&T is a welcome refreshment in Y with them

Eric

Lars, Marc, Léonard, Blaž, Burj, flightsimboy, Roy, Martin,

Quoting The777Man (Reply 4):
Great surprise for you that you got to fly on a 77L instead of an 330!
Quoting MSS658 (Reply 7):
Nice addition of the Boeing 777-200LR in the log as well.
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
Great for you to get a 777 on a such short sector
Quoting SloAir (Reply 11):
The B77L instead of the A330 is a great swap! Great that you were able to enjoy this great airplane on this short hop.
Quoting Burj (Reply 12):
It is amazing that they fly a 777 on such a short route!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
What a short distance for the ultimate long range jet!!
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
The 77L was a nice sub for the Airbus.
Quoting deltamartin (Reply 18):
and nice to see that 77L of QR was a nice ride on that short hop.

Absolutely! Thanks to the swap, I have ticked off all 777 subtypes, but one. The 772 non ER is still missing in my log.

The hotel looks amazing !
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
the hotel seems to be really cosy
Quoting OA260 (Reply 9):
Love the hotel looks amazing.
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
Your hotel looked marvellous too!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
What a luxurious place to have spent your time in Dubai
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
The hotel looks splendid with little touches of luxury, without being over the top.

A true world of refined heritage, sauve elegance and effortless chic.

**********************************************************

Lars, Léonard, Roy, Eric,

Quoting The777Man (Reply 4):
The flight is so short that there's not much service but nice to get something.
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
QR treats well its guests with candies and hot wrap.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
And to see a meal being distributed on a short run is welcome
Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
Though, QR is very limited in food offer, these hot wraps are given on every flight of them, also the longhauls as second (or first) service, depending on the time of the day.
Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
and the G&T is a welcome refreshment in Y with them

Real pleasure to dine and wine, even on a short flight.

**********************************************************

Nils, Marc, Léonard, Hannah, TheAviator380,

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Also Dubai amazes me time after time, your pics only add to the amazement. But I don't think I will feel comfortable there, it is a bit too much (luxury)... But maybe I should judge that during a visit myself?
Quoting MSS658 (Reply 7):
Same goes for pinning DXB on the map! Simply Stunning.
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
so many superlatives can be attributed to Dubai, what a fascinating city i should go one day...
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
I enjoyed your pics of Dubai too, certainly a place we should visit one day.
Quoting TheAviator380 (Reply 13):
DXB and Dubai is an amazing place, I was telling my friend, there is something special about Dubai which someone can't find anywhere else in the world.

Upon independence from UK on December 2, 1971, Dubai has undergone such a rapid transformation to one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and become home to just over 2 million people from more than 200 nationalities. Just let the former pearl-diving centre amaze you!

**********************************************************

Nils, Marc, Hannah, Eric,

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Qatar definitely continues to amaze me: pillow and blanket, drink service,... on such a short hop? Amazing.
Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Impressive, really!
Quoting MSS658 (Reply 7):
Qatar seems to remain it's consistant service.
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
What super service you got on QR for such a short flight
Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
and it's good to have a view on this product which is very good I think.

Qatar goes the extra mile to anticipate the comforts and services we need to make our journey a great one regardless the class or flight time.

**********************************************************

Nils, Hannah, flightsimboy,

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Oh man, don't you just hate those people.
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
Oh how riduculous on such a short flight. I really hate that kind of behaviour.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
Really, he had to recline for the shortest of short haul flights lol

Herman was indeed not amused by Mr. 33B.

**********************************************************

Léonard, Hannah, flightsimboy,

Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
PS: the headscarf gives you a really nice style
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
Looks good though!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
You look ready to be cast as Sinbad...That head gear does give you a very regal look

Thank you.

**********************************************************

Léonard, Hannah, Eric,

Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
even better when it is on 3-3-3 lay out,
Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
All that space in economy? I'm impressed.
Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
The good legroom makes up for that,

hence the widest and spacious seats.

**********************************************************

Blaž, Martin,

Quoting SloAir (Reply 11):
It felt very good to see some familiar places in Dubai again after my visit there last year, I hope to returen back sometime soon.
Quoting deltamartin (Reply 18):
Also glad to see some pictures of Dubai, reminds me of my visit there in 2011.

I hope to return as well. Very nice that we share the same fond memories of Dubai.

**********************************************************

Burj, flightsimboy,

Quoting Burj (Reply 12):
Talk about luxurious....if it were me I don't know if I would have ever have left the hotel! LOL
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
and to come back to and unwind after a long day's tour of the city.

Well, you indeed appreciate the luxury better when you return after a long day’s tour.

**********************************************************

TheAviator380, Roy,

Quoting TheAviator380 (Reply 13):
that blue/purple mood lighting for 777 is so soothing and exotic.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
The mood-lighting is wonderful.

Blue represents loyalty, while purple represents faith.

**********************************************************

Hi Lars,

Quoting The777Man (Reply 4):
It's usually a very nice kick-in-the-butt take off experience on a DOH-DXB flight since the plane is usually very light for such a very short flight.

It was! Who else would describe the experience better than The777Man himself?

Quoting The777Man (Reply 4):
Nice to see pictures from Burj Khalifa again!

Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa is just the heart of Dubai you cannot skip!

Quoting The777Man (Reply 4):
Looking forward to your next report!

Thank you for encouraging.

**********************************************************

Hi Nils,

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
So as far a I can understand: no limo transfer?

Not this time. Limo transfer is only for customers travelling First Class.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
But you did take that car from DXB to your hotel then...?

Yes, airport transfers to and from DXB were complimentary.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Do I smell a regional, all Y layout here?

Well, Qatar doesn’t have any 777 with regional, all Y layout.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Heck it even takes more time to recline than it takes to actually fly from DOH to DXB (or sort of...   )

In brief, it’s not worth it.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
I think it is very spotter friendly (we have them as well @ the A terminal in BRU)

Thank you for the info.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
for those suffering from claustrphobia, it is a relief as well

So true!

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Looking handsome

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
It remains a marvel of architecture!

An extraordinary union of engineering and art, with every detail carefully considered and beautifully crafted.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Lol, funny pic!

Herman gets the credit for the pic.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 5):
Just great! I'm sensing some sort of a connection here!

أهْل, Sultan.

FlyboyOz,

Quoting FlyboyOz (Reply 6):
How long does it take between Doha to Dubai? an hour flight?

46 minutes.

**********************************************************

Hello Marc,

Quoting MSS658 (Reply 7):
Would like to try them out one day sooner or later.

You won’t regret!

Quoting MSS658 (Reply 7):
This one is high on the list as well.

For better experience, you should fly it long haul.

**********************************************************

Léonard,

Quoting eastafspot (Reply 8):
thanks for this info

You are welcome.

Hey Philip,

Quoting OA260 (Reply 9):
Top brands for the amenities always get my vote !

I knew it!

Quoting OA260 (Reply 9):
As usual you have left me very hungry so I need to go to my fridge and see whats for dinner tonight! Nothing as grand as your meals

I would love to share the meals with you.

**********************************************************

Hi Hannah,

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
& the transfer in Doha seemed very smooth.

Yes, we were pleasantly surprised.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
It's funny, when I stand at the top of a mountain, I can happily look at the big drop down below, but seeing your shots from the Burj Khalifa made me feel a bit giddy.

I felt the same way and honestly, I wouldn’t even dare to look at the big drop down from the top of a mountain!

Herman gets the credit for the downward shots from the Burj Khalifa.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
You just have to love it when there's someone waiting for you with a nameboard

It makes you feel special.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
These tourists will buy anything

Call it a weakness.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
But two matresses? I don't like that.

You make a point here.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 10):
That mojito is the prettiest I've ever seen.

I feasted my eyes on it as well.

**********************************************************

Hello flightsimboy,

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
I'm usually one of the first few to reply to your trip reports, and this time I had a delay and realise this report is dedicated to me!! Thank you so much, my dear friend Suryo! I really do appreciate the dedication.

I am so happy to know that!

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
Usually the cross over the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Kuwait takes 25 minutes compared to the rest of the journey to Toronto for an additional 13 hours....so basically the flight from Doha to Dubai is a tease lol....

Do I hear Frank Sinatra?

’Come fly with me, let’s fly, let’s fly away,’

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
Grrrr....I wish they would relax the rules for Canadian passport holders!!

You poor thing!

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
And something that us a.netters can always expect from Akhmadpedia....down to the nitty gritty details as though you were a local of whichever city you are visiting. Awesome as usual

I am flattered. Thank you.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
The same view with a mild standstorm passing through
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
The rainbow after the rain that followed the sandstorm
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
The view at night.

Just breathtaking!  Wow!

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
I spent almost five to six hours up there just to see it by day and night!

And it paid off!

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
I truly regret never going to a traditional site like this one. This is the real old and authentic Dubai!!

There is always a next time.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
Peek a boo!!

Busted!

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 14):
Did you not get a chance to go to Ski Dubai?

I don’t like skiing.

**********************************************************

Nima,

Quoting nimool (Reply 15):
looking down from burj khalifa at the marina it just looked like a model!

Burj Khalifa, the power that lift the world’s head proudly skywards and honoring the city with a new glow.

**********************************************************

Hi Roy,

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
it saves people having to spend anything in the airport eateries.

That’s true!

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
I really like to see the items offered for sale displayed like that. It looks much more appealing than the little bags of processed ingredients we see in supermarkets.

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
As preparation for your visit to the shoppers' paradise, I am guessing that your suitcase was empty on arrival but on the way back was close to being over-weight at check-in.

I wish. We traveled only with hand luggage.

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 16):
Bulgari toiletries? Now where have I seen that before?

Could it be here? Bye Asia 2: Private Cabin? DOH-MUC With QR In F (by akhmad Oct 24 2010 in Trip Reports)

**********************************************************

Hi Eric,

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
That is the most common way to travel for most of us,

I know.

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
QR was out of yellow boarding pass covers for transit, on all my flights, so their system is not working either with the colors as presented in the video.

That is too bad!

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
Aside from that, the old DOH airport is a major disgrace and not nice at all, taking away 4 of 5 stars from this quality airline.

I just hope NDIA will open up very soon. Sadly, it didn’t make it for the soft opening last April 1.

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
I must say, the hardware is good, I enjoyed flying the 77W and A346 on QR.

The 77W and A346 are majestic airliners, aren’t they?

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 17):
The A330-300 was old though, with trouble in the IFE system from time to time.

What a shame. I did not experience any problem with the IFE though.

**********************************************************

Hello Martin,

Quoting deltamartin (Reply 18):
I remember that from my DOH transfers as well, very nice not to have to unpack the laptop.

Absolutely! I still can’t figure out why we need to unpack our laptop for the security check.

**********************************************************

Hi Suryo,

what a fantastic report you have presented once more! Your pictures are a perfect reminder of my last visit to Dubai. I was hoping for such an equipment change last year...well, at least I got an "upgrade" to an A321 in one case...

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):

’What an airport transfer!’

Thankfully that mess won't last that long. However as an O-D passenger to Doha I'm very disappointed at the new location, very far from the city.

Flights Status

Route: DOHDXB
Date: May 26, 2012
ETD/ATD: 01.10 / 01.25
ETA/ATA: 03.20 / 03.35
Flight number: QR 0102
Plane: Boeing 777-2DZLR
Registration: A7-BBE
Delivered: December 14, 2009
Flight deck: Captain Bourkaib Amini, First Officer Zanolain Sandro

Now wasn't that a pleasant surprise? Intra GCC routes are too unpredictable in terms of aircraft deployment.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 1):
‘Tasty and filling for the early hours!’
‘Speaking of early, we are starting our descent! Should we consult the safety card for further instructions?’

Nice snack for a short flight, I remember having bigger trays on this sector.

’No visa required for Western European nationals! Look who’s waiting behind Customs!’

A warm greeting to Dubai

Flying a 777 on such a short flight must be a treat

Absolutely! Who else can put it aptly than Lars:

It's usually a very nice kick-in-the-butt take off experience on a DOH-DXB flight since the plane is usually very light for such a very short flight.

Beautiful pictures of Dubai provided with some very interesting information. Dubai is a city I will finally be visiting in November and definetely looking foward to it!

How exciting! Upon independence from UK on December 2, 1971, Dubai has undergone such a rapid transformation to one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and become home to just over 2 million people from more than 200 nationalities. Just let the former pearl-diving centre amaze you!

And a lady looking straight at your camera

Oops!

Quoting adamspotter (Reply 29):
I love them, as you say they are spotter friendly

They are!
