"Spend some time with the Hobby or is it IAH?"

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301093_zpsb14eab3d.jpg

Hello, dear readers,

is it really possible to catch two new plane types within one trip?.
Oh, yes it is, as long as the airline guy´s don´t prefer any equipment changes!.
Close to four weeks at the homebase without any flights.
More long haul is definitely welcomed.
And just by coincidence, you don´t need to go for the Netherlands to meet one of our local reporter colleagues!.

This is a view to the last story:

"Manila, Me And The Dragon Of Hongkong" (by FLIEGER67 Mar 15 2013 in Trip Reports)

And here is the routemap for this one:

http://www.gcmap.com/map?P=fra-atl-hou-iah-ams-str&MS=wls&MR=120&MX=540x540&PM=*

Thanx to, as usual:

http://www.gcmap.com/

Is there a new departure airport to pin on the map?.
Yes, it is, with IAH as no. 234:

Departure Airports II auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

Some more lines painted on the flights of 2013 map:

And the previous 200 departure places:

Well, on the way shortly!.

Service KLM KL 6115 operated by Delta Airlines
Scheduled: 10.15 // 14.40

The cell phone alarm is set at 04.30 am, ah, the good old times!.
Up and ready to go. I like to be at the parking spot Tourcare at around 08.00 am. Weather looks like ok, not that cold, wet after some rain and Saturday morning this early seems not that much traffic.
Well, the car asked for some oil on the way. Sure, no question, exactly today, half way between the homebase and FRA, but that´s the way it goes, Murphy´s law, you know.
Fixed, what needs some time and present at 08.15 am.
A quick shuttle for terminal 2 and the Delta counters are just opposite the entrance.
The whole four of flights during this trip are on one confirmation, managed by KL itself this time. The fare per leg is 145.00 Euro´s.
Despite I´am on a KL flightnumber, DL let me select my seat and also offered eco extra for free.
Sure ok this way, the seat is secured swiftly.
But the system´s answer after my work with the KL OLCI mail is not really to my amusement.
"There is no OLCI available for this flight".
Well, at least the FRA system shows me no bad sign for my service from gate D05
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301010_zpscf03ff0d.jpg
My ESTA is updated in advance for another time without any fee.
Some minutes to wait at the Sky Priority counter with frequently calls for pax on the 30 minutes earlier DTW service. It seems I´am late, not that many more pax around. A nice elder woman at work. She shows me the seatmap for the flight, not a single open seat to spot,
a 100% load around all cabins.
Also the choice of seats for leg two today is limited, but nevertheless she found a window for me. Well done.
"It seems you´re to late for the lounge today".
"Well, even 5 minutes is not to late!".
While my bag disappeared in the belly of Frankfurt airport.
No time to wait at passport check.
And the lounge is close to the gate.
Really, is this the entrance for the lounge?.
Looks more like storage in the basement to me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301011_zps5f336d12.jpg
No pics, the lounge is well used and my time is limited.
Security is directly at the gate,
close to no time to wait at the Sky Priority line.
What about a view to the plane parked?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301012_zpsc457fe22.jpg
Yes, this is the scheduled 767-400. N825MH is first registered to Boeing at 09.10.1999 and more than a year later catched by DL.
Warm welcomed, leg no. 1 and only till now on this type
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301013_zps649b638d.jpg
And a really well known plane in case of incidents:

http://avherald.com/h?article=42f8ac34&opt=0
http://avherald.com/h?article=44bbc751&opt=0
Boarding is good on the way when I´am there with just a couple of pax behind me.
No time to hurry, the flight is fully booked anyway.
100 % around all classes. My seatmate is an elder american guy, sleeping most of the time, ok this way.
21 767-400´s are in the actual fleet
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301015_zps6d10fca8.jpg
12 cloudy degrees,10.20 am close to ontime, "Delta" leaving FRA, see you at Monday.
09.25 hours bound for the States one more time.
Talking this in a relaxed way and knowing while I´am writing this, that due to heavy snowfall the airport was completely closed down at Tuesday, so lucky me here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301016_zpsfee1dcc7.jpg
Cockpit crew is from the US. The captain with a relaxed welcome after boarding and more informations short after departure.
Oh, yes, I like these engines
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301017_zpsb2ce204c.jpg
Just departed and above the clouds from the 4000 meters runway "Two-Five-Center"
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301018_zpsc09aedae.jpg
The cabin is not in the best conditions, really well used leather seats.
Note the broken plastic video screen cover, but anyway it works
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301019_zps490143ee.jpg
Yes, that fit´s
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301020_zps25b4d2cb.jpg
Baseball, ok
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301021_zps5a3c7569.jpg
This system impressed me, lot´s of flight details
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301023_zps83d91f3f.jpg
We are heading for Coke town, just to notice it
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301024_zps96a4e805.jpg
Legroom is tight, ok it is important to catch the 764,
less comfortable against the lately flown 763.
And just to remember this is eco extra
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301025_zpsf1e4cdda.jpg
Cabin crew serving my seat are not the real golden girls this time, but two ok style elder woman!.
Three meal options are available, hot twice and one cold dish.
Not that long thereafter there is something to enjoy
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301026_zpsc58afe10.jpg
Or maybe not?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301027_zps18c6a752.jpg
Just a couple of miles to go
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301028_zpsbfb12001.jpg
And a visit to dreamland later this looks like Canada
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301030_zps95843435.jpg
Where there is also some snow visible
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301031_zps4df9ef0c.jpg
Routing is BRU-LON-SNN-Bangor-Boston-New York- Washington with mostly cloudy sky at maximum 34000 feet.
Movies anyone?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301032_zps21709006.jpg
Or also music?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301033_zps79087afe.jpg
A shorty snack prior to arrivals
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301034_zpsd815050b.jpg
And the captain is on the mike with a nice bye-bye.
Simply stunning, have a closer look here and you see for the first time ever for me, a triple approach side by side Delta, Southwest and Delta again, me included
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301036_zpsf7c0cf1a.jpg
Well, it´s ATL I know
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301037_zps2568bff8.jpg
Touchdown at the 2743 meters "Zero-Eight-Left", 18 cloudy degrees, 2.00 pm local, 40 minutes ahead to schedule and 8.00 pm in Germany. Swiftly out from the forward cabin.
Some meters to walk for immigrations and sure, I know the way again. The very same row for the very same counters like six weeks ago, but hopefully not staffed by the very same agent!.
Some 5 minutes to wait and the whole experience is much more relaxed this time.
Also a young male on duty checking my passport:
"You travel a lot?".
"Oh yes and I like it till now!".
Duties done, a new stamp without further questions and welcome to the States for one more time.

HOU/William P. Hobby Airport Houston Hobby

.

Service DL 1549 operated by Delta Airlines
Scheduled: 16.10 // 17.33

Priority tags in ATL?. At least not today!. Lot´s of bags on the belt, but no priority to see at all. Especially an elder woman, official style you know, has an ongoing discussion with the supervisor about her priority labeled bag, her precious lost time and who knows what else.
Finally my bag arrived, prior to the ladies example!.
Leaving the tax form by the officer, the bag rechecked,
no time to wait at security and down the stairs for the intra terminal train ride to the B gates.
And just by major coincidence, one of our reporters from the Netherlands decides also to spend some time in the States. Major coincidence again, he is scheduled to connect at ATL very close to my arrival and departure time and much more coincidence he should go from the gate close beside my example.
A couple of messages in and out and so
Brendan/Adamspotter waited for me at the lounge entrance to have a quick Skyclub chat together.
Brendan, once again, pretty good to meet you this way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301038_zpse5136d2f.jpg
B27, "At the gate" for Houston-Hobby looks like ok this way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301039_zpsab30d55f.jpg
"Proud to call Atlanta home", sure and especially with all these interesting plane types around
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301040_zps9fa61e28.jpg
N916DL is designated to fly me to Hobby.
Leg no. 3 only on type and new to the log
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301041_zps43b13736.jpg
An oldie bird, in service with DL since 31.03.1988.
One of the 117 MD88´s in the fleet.
Here is a story with N916DL:
http://avherald.com/h?article=433cbc88&opt=0
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301042_zps067aedbd.jpg
Service done and ready to go.
What about some MD engine noise this time?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301043_zps5dfdf2db.jpg
Seat selection for this leg was somewhat strange.
I was originally booked on the 7.15 pm service for IAH, but this one was cancelled. They rebooked me without any contact to the evening service, 8.30 pm, not my choice.
A short call to KL changed me for the HOU flight, but both the DL and the KL system shows all seats taken in all cabins, even when I try to make a testbooking for eco extra, no seats available.
No engine noise for me, the upgrade notice worked well again on Delta, seat 1A as the young woman at the desk called me.
4.10 pm, perfectly ontime, 2 hours, 10 minutes for Texas by "Delta".
18 partly cloudy degrees here.
Cockpit crew is from the US, the captain with a nice short welcome after boarding.
A couple of regionals on the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301044_zps33adfb81.jpg
And a lovely 9´er
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301045_zps3294efb4.jpg
Spacious clean leather seats in the cabin.
Typical row 1 legroom here, not that much space to spread your legs. The aisle is also taken by an elder american guy again
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301046_zpsb7affcc0.jpg
The load is 100%.
Cabin crew is a middle aged black southern style woman, nice
and two male FA´s, both middle aged and ok.
Just departed from the 3048 meters "Zero-Eight-Right". Doing a full circle around ATL downtown
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301047_zps816a1097.jpg
This is it
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301049_zpsbdb88f90.jpg
Just to confirm the MD88, congrats to DL, I hope you stay this way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301050_zpsed4b0169.jpg
Service, drinks, also longdrinks what you want and snacks for several times
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301051_zpscfb29f15.jpg
The captain is once more short again on the mike during the approach. Cloudy all the way, no route or flight level information.
Well, it seems the DL gate goddess does me a favour again.
This is Houston downtown.
Spot the motorway around the Central Business District, I´ve done it the day after. Believe me, for the queue experienced European, this is like a autodrome game, one circle lasts 15 minutes and if you are not sure which exit to go, simply do another circle.
Imagine something like this in for example Stuttgart,
unbelievable
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301052_zpsff512493.jpg
Close to Hobby airport
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301053_zps3f8a2f3c.jpg
The weather forecast for the weekend looks not that good.
Cloudy sky and gusting winds Saturday afternoon which is perfectly experienced here on finals and thunderstorms Sunday morning. Not what you really expect from southern Texas in spring.
Touchdown at the 2317 meters "One-Two-Right" and at the gate short thereafter.
6.15 pm, more than 15 minutes ahead to schedule and 23 cloudy degrees here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301054_zpsd3b9df56.jpg
Bye now to the lovely MD
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301055_zpsb44c8c67.jpg
And also at HOU, they don´t care about the Priority tag. Some minutes to wait till I´am out in the public and heading for the rental car desks.
Dollar this time. By shuttle for the office, just some more minutes till a young guy let me sign the papers and my car is ready.
With 25.00 Euro´s much cheaper than the second best offer.
Done by Argusmietwagen.de.
Really?. Well, I´ve made a good deal, but when I´ve checked the details it was nevertheless good, but not as good as originally expected.
This was a pick up full, return empty fare and you need to pay the first load of gas.
Ok, just down the road is my place to stay for the night,
the Days Inn and Suites Houston Hobby Airport
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301059_zps6f6202d2.jpg
The entrance

And the parking
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301061_zps59e70c77.jpg
A nice young woman welcomed me. An upper floor room is requested, ok from the two available only and prepared for me.
A first view

The bathroom
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301056_zpscc70dbe4.jpg
Just some meters more down the road are a couple of fast food chains, finally McD was my choice for some fries and a coke.
Back at the hotel, internet work by the free wifi and check the bed!.
Looking for a sunny day to catch some pictures tomorrow.
Breakfast is ready from 6.30 am.
Not that many other guests around
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301058_zps89903894.jpg
Someone remember the weather forecast?.
Not a real difference between the grey pre thunderstorm sky in Germany or in Texas.
And boy, the thunderstorm was heavy.
No chance to leave the hotel prior to 10.00 am and that means my time for Houston slows down more and more.
Finally I don´t want to wait longer, saddled the car and ride for town.
First target is Rothko chapel, located in southwestern Houston, in a residential district and therefore not that easy to catch. And well, done a couple of circles on the autodrome in between!.
Rothko chapel is built to show the paintings of Mark Rothko and well, it´s open for everyone

Tracks?. Is there really something like a train here in Houston?

Yes, it is and a really modern example

The house is not open due to a special event, but my time is anyway limited.
With the first experience to fly out of IAH and the car to return, it seems like a good idea to go for the airport now, some two and a half hour prior to departure.
Not to miss the autodrome again!.

During online seat selection DL offers me an free upgrade to eco extra, but KL doesn´t let me fix it.
OLCI works, 377.00 Euro´s for an upgrade to biz, still 80 Euro´s for eco extra, no, operational upgrades only, please!.
Printed without a minute to wait by a young male guy at the Sky Priority counter.
He told me about a full eco and eco extra cabin, but some open seats in biz. One for me?.
Also security works well with an extra entrance, not a minute to wait and done in seconds for a first view like this

PH-BFK "City of Karachi", well AMS is enough for me tonight!.
In service with KL since 21.05.1991.
16 examples are in the actual fleet.
Here is a story with the plane:
http://avherald.com/h?article=44f1096c&opt=0
More and more cargo is loaded, impressive
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301099_zpsd61eba42.jpg
Every pallet is swallowed by the huge plane body
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301100_zps518fa7ba.jpg
And the sun shines through the clouds

Why not ask at the gate for an upgrade?.
At first it looks like ok, but in the end they told me that op up is not granted and I should pay for the upgrade.
No!.
44K is my seat in the very last row with the whole bulk of cargo behind and lucky, lucky me, the only single open seat to spot is the middle one beside me, the aisle is also taken by a young ok asian guy.
Cockpit crew is from the Netherlands, the captain with a nice welcome during boarding.
Detailed and long again short after departure.
4.30 pm, short ahead to schedule, 08 hours, 30 minutes by "KLM" across the pond. 18 partly cloudy degrees here.
Taxiway racing and just departed from the 3048 meters "Three-Three-Left"
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301105_zps86dc04d2.jpg
Legroom is ok here with the dark blue fabric seats, clean so far and the temperature is really comfy from my personal point of view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301106_zpsacc95e60.jpg
A nice welcome

It looks like also interesting this way

Some snack to start
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301119_zps6d8fdca1.jpg
I´ve had a hard time to stay awake till dinner.
Meat or pasta seems like the usual question these days.
And yes, the breadroll was delicious!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301121_zpsc7fe6143.jpg
To much sauce around the pasta from my point of view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301122_zpsd88c8028.jpg
The route is Little Rock-St.Louis-Chicago-close to the southern tip of Greenland-Belfast-IOM-MAN at maximum 37000 feet.
Well, believe it or not, I´ve even don´t noticed it when the FA cleared my tray and was very close to miss breakfast without a minute off dreamland in between
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301123_zpsd9aee9f7.jpg
Less than an hour to go for AMS
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301124_zps0b602ef8.jpg
The captain is on the mike with a nice good morning and detailed weather informations for AMS.
A cloudy beachview on approach
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301125_zpsa9523f46.jpg
Touchdown at the 3500 meters "Zero-Six", 7.15 am, 30 minutes ahead to schedule, -2 degrees and high clouds, shudder.
Bye now, had a good sleep here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301126_zps0736e641.jpg
Sure a massive plane
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301127_zps9e701e5b.jpg
A good distance to walk with the special thing again, a queue at the European passports desk and simply no one in front at all passports.
Just a view from the officer and some minutes at security.
You know, painfull for all these people with duty free shopping liquids not ready to go through
and ready for the next lounge.

Service KLM KL 1765 operated by KLM Cityhopper
Scheduled: 09.50 // 11.05

Ah, the real KL crown lounge
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301128_zps4ad0c643.jpg
Nice design and less customers, at least
during my arrival
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301129_zps00502c8e.jpg
LH for FRA is cancelled, but KL looks like ok from gate B32
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301130_zps7ecdbdd9.jpg
How I like this view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301131_zpsa6c7b5f7.jpg
Or also this one

My plane down there
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301133_zpscf586701.jpg
This is PH-EZD, the scheduled E90.
Leg no. 15 on type, new to the log
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301134_zpsd90fae6e.jpg
In the air and around with KLC since 29.04.2009.
22 examples are in the actual fleet
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301135_zpsfbd3d3bb.jpg
Boarding now

The cabin view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301138_zpsd584f1d9.jpg
Short after the boarding completed message appears the captain in the cabin, face to face, usually not the way to tell us some funny stories.
Weather forecast for Central Europe looks not that good, it´s freezing cold in Amsterdam and also in Frankfurt.
Snow expected later and traffic interruptions due to this weather situation.
He decides to catch more fuel than already loaded and that means some time to wait for the fuel truck and all the biz around
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301139_zpsf7ae4dd8.jpg
The safety card
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301140_zps55d2d5ad.jpg
The dark blue leather seats are clean. The legroom is ok in the last row, 26F and the aisle is also taken
by a young male.
Another 100% load, no open seat to spot
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301141_zps0be37849.jpg
The captain is for several times on the mike and keeps us up to date.
Time for some window spotting.
A classic 742 by Conny Kalitta
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301142_zpsf5f94a20.jpg
Simply lovely
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301143_zpsbed91618.jpg
The slot is now gone, more time to wait.
Finally at 10.30 am, 40 minutes late, "City" is ok to go for the 50 minutes FRA bound, hopefully.
Snow showers and -2 degrees by now.
But really on the way for departures from the 3453 meters "Zero-Nine" and we´re not alone here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301144_zps8d1170c5.jpg
See you in June
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301145_zpsbf159b43.jpg
Cabin crew is one young blonde woman from the Netherlands, ok and another woman, young, carribean style, not that really cute, but yes, you know, really nice!.
Some delicious treats on the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301146_zps356de46f.jpg
No route or flightlevel informations.
And a winglet in the bright sun
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301147_zps39f085a5.jpg
Touchdown on the new 2800 meters runway "Zero-Seven-Left". 11.45 am, 40 minutes late, zero degrees and also cloudy sky.
What is good for a long taxi to the apron parking position
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301148_zps15a22fec.jpg
Bye now for PH-EZD
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301149_zps822479f6.jpg
Some snow showers, yes, but the shuttle driver waits for me at the meeting place, the motorways are ok, till as usual around Stuttgart and back at the homebase not that long after scheduled.
Lucky, lucky me definitely, when we know that one day later around the very same time the airport is closed due to heavy snowfall and also the motorways remain in chaos!.

Conclusions, sure:
1.)Delta Frankfurt-Atlanta: Calm and ok so far with the full flight.
2.)Delta Atlanta-Houston/Hobby: Good comfort, nice service.
3.)KLM Houston/International-Amsterdam: In dreamland from late lunch till breakfast.
4.)KLM Cityhopper Amsterdam-Frankfurt: Short and calm despite the delay.

Well, you´ve followed my direction seesaw:
North America/Asia/North America and now?.
Asia, but Asia mainly as a starter for a trip down under.
There is just One World to go for Australia, isn´t it?:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/AUS1301/AUS1301PART1041_zpsa0c4d211.jpg

So long,
comments welcome, as usual,

Hoi Markus,

Yay! The long awaited KL 74M story! It’s so good to get in the mood for my next KL TATL experience through your eyes!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Oh, yes it is, as long as the airline guy´s don´t prefer any equipment changes!.

Or a swap for the better, like my DOH-DXB flight being operated by 77L instead of scheduled 333.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Sure, no question, exactly today, half way between the homebase and FRA, but that´s the way it goes, Murphy´s law, you know.

Tell me about it! Exactly on the departure day for our meet last weekend, there had to be some problems on the railway to AMS.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Despite I´am on a KL flightnumber, DL let me select my seat and also offered eco extra for free.

While the other way around (DL flight number on a KL flight), seat selection just becomes available within 90 days before depature.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And a really well known plane in case of incidents:

Hence, they needed you to exorcise the bad omen!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And just to remember this is eco extra

Yikes! Which extra did you get then? Luckily, you were not charged for the eco extra!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Or maybe not?

Oh? Did you like the pasta?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Or also music?

Oh yes! Dance music, please! Shakira? David Guetta? Pitbull? Bring them in!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
"You travel a lot?".
"Oh yes and I like it till now!".
Duties done, a new stamp without further questions

That’s the way to go!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
Imagine something like this in for example Stuttgart,

Well, then we’ll have to rely on Navigator or Tomtom.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
And youre steps are closely watched

Hopefully, it didn’t say, “This way up, please!”

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
Spot the raptor chick

Gotcha!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2):
See you in June

Bulgaria Air?

So glad to learn another great experience with KL! Thanks for sharing, also for the sightseeing around Houston!

All the bests,

I transit Houston all the time but I never leave the airport. Interesting to see some of the sights. Sorry about the Chevy Aveo

That 744 combi is pretty cool. What does the rear bulkhead look like? Same as other aircraft or can you tell that there is cargo on the other side?

First of all great report !
Really interesting that you got an 747 combi, I didn't know KLM still have those.

I walked past this while on a layover in IAH last September. How big it looked!

Hello Markus,

Another very succesful trip to an end: 3 new entries in the log and 2 new plane types. That must be the biggest succes in years

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Close to four weeks at the homebase without any flights.

Are you kidding me? Any side effects related to that

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Despite I´am on a KL flightnumber, DL let me select my seat and also offered eco extra for free.

A good start but a mess up afterwards. Tsss....

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Warm welcomed, leg no. 1 and only till now on this type

Unbelievable for the amount of ‘quality air time’ you have

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Especially an elder woman, official style you know, has an ongoing discussion with the supervisor about her priority labeled bag, her precious lost time and who knows what else.

Some people do really make you wonder...

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Believe me, for the queue experienced European, this is like a autodrome game, one circle lasts 15 minutes and if you are not sure which exit to go, simply do another circle.

Don’t try this in Brussels, it’ll not be 15 mins but 15 hrs!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
and a good number of more or less awkward looking guys and girls downtown.

Strange subjects?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
not that really cute, but yes, you know, really nice!

Hi Markus,

Nice report and congrats on the new types--I like them all, even the not so new ones

DL was DL, no surprises for me. Including the bad-looking meal on the TATL flight--IMO that's DL's worst thing.

KL, the same, as expected... My favorite European airline.

Thanks for sharing,

Hello Markus, great report as always! Decent service on the DL flight, but that's some tight legroom for Eco plus - and a small looking meal for such a relatively long flight. Nice flights also on KL it seems, they have a great product in Eco I think. Glad the weather was allright in the end and you got to FRA without to much of a delay.

True, for sure!.

And me, too!.

Don’t try this in Brussels, it’ll not be 15 mins but 15 hrs!

The very same in Stuttgart.

not that really cute, but yes, you know, really nice!

Nice report and congrats on the new types--I like them all, even the not so new ones

Thank you.

Quoting dc9northwest (Reply 14):
DL was DL, no surprises for me. Including the bad-looking meal on the TATL flight--IMO that's DL's worst thing.

Well, that was the case here.

Quoting dc9northwest (Reply 14):

KL, the same, as expected... My favorite European airline.

Me, too.

@R.:

Quoting roberts87 (Reply 15):
Hello Markus, great report as always! Decent service on the DL flight, but that's some tight legroom for Eco plus - and a small looking meal for such a relatively long flight. Nice flights also on KL it seems, they have a great product in Eco I think. Glad the weather was allright in the end and you got to FRA without to much of a delay.

Thank you and sure also my opinion both with DL and KL. And lucky me with FRA, definitely.

Greetings,
Markus(FLIEGER67)

It looks like you were in a regular economy seat from AMS-ATL, as Economy Comfort seats have red seat number markers.

Hey Markus:

An interesting short trip to my home town!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
Spot the motorway around the Central Business District, I´ve done it the day after. Believe me, for the queue experienced European, this is like a autodrome game, one circle lasts 15 minutes and if you are not sure which exit to go, simply do another circle.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/USA1301/USA1301052_zpsff512493.jpg

I had to include this picture because I can sorta see my townhome in the mid-to-lower right corner. First time I had seen that other than on Google Maps. This is also one of the faster growing areas of Houston, the area called Midtown. Thanks for the photo!

As for the experience on I-45 around downtown, it is a bit a hairy experience when you do not know where to exit or what lane you need to be on to exit. But this is not the main circle around Houston proper, that would be I-610 loop.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
First target is Rothko chapel, located in southwestern Houston, in a residential district and therefore not that easy to catch. And well, done a couple of circles on the autodrome in between!.
Rothko chapel is built to show the paintings of Mark Rothko and well, it´s open for everyone

I believe you happened to miss the Greek Orthodox frescoes that had been there for years. Beautiful pieces. The Rothko Chapel is located in Houston proper in the Montrose area of the city. Did you also swing by the Menil Collection as well since it is a couple of blocks away.

Did you have any good food while you were in town?

Hope you enjoyed your stay and y'all come back now!

Hi Markus,

Good to catch up on your latest report.

Another successful trip for you, with an a.net meeting, great that that worked out. Those photos of the skyscrapers & motorway in Houston are quite something.

Nice to see another positive experience on KLM, the meals are very substantial and I really like the picture you took of the Fokker Farm at AMS.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Close to four weeks at the homebase without any flights.

Way too long!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Well, the car asked for some oil on the way. Sure, no question, exactly today, half way between the homebase and FRA, but that´s the way it goes, Murphy´s law, you

Thank goodness it was nothing more serious

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Really, is this the entrance for the lounge?.
Looks more like storage in the basement to me

That has to be the most uninviting lounge entrance I've ever seen.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And just to remember this is eco extra

That legroom is really tight, especially on such a long flight.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Or maybe not?

Cheese, cheese and more cheese by the looks of it!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Also a young male on duty checking my passport:
"You travel a lot?".
"Oh yes and I like it till now!".
Duties done, a new stamp without further questions and welcome to the States for one more time.

Good that there were no awkward questions this time.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
You know, painfull for all these people with duty free shopping liquids not ready to go through
and ready for the next lounge.

Very frustrating, especially when time is limited.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
The legroom is ok in the last row, 26F and the aisle is also taken
by a young male.

26F, good choice, I had that seat on Sunday evening on PH-EZT

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
There is just One World to go for Australia, isn´t it?:

Love that photo!

Happy flying

Hi Markus !

Great report with great pictures !

Flights look nice and great for you to log two new types in one trip plus one more departure airport. Legroom looks tight even for regular Y but apparently it's not economy extra.

Nice pictures from Houston; I've been there once about ten years ago.

Looking forward to your next report!

Hello Markus,

Very nice to read this report on your short trip to the U S of A. Good to see you met a fellow a.netter @ ATL
Both KLM and DL look good here with some healthy loads. Amazing to see that you were able to log 2 new types in 1 trip, especially considering all the flying you do
Nice to see some pictures of downtown Houston, a place I visited not too long ago. Those tall skyscrapers always remain amazing
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Priority tags in ATL?. At least not today!. Lot´s of bags on the belt, but no priority to see at all. Especially an elder woman, official style you know, has an ongoing discussion with the supervisor about her priority labeled bag, her precious lost time and who knows what else.

Some people... Although I agree on her that priority tags aren't taken care of correctly way too often! Doesn't mean you can keep discussing!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And just by major coincidence, one of our reporters from the Netherlands decides also to spend some time in the States. Major coincidence again, he is scheduled to connect at ATL very close to my arrival and departure time and much more coincidence he should go from the gate close beside my example.

Those were 3 very major coincidences
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Brendan, once again, pretty good to meet you this way

It was very nice to meet you too, till the next time
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And a lovely 9´er

It's about time you catch one
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
A first view

Dont you love those big American hotel rooms?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
KL for AMS looks like ok from gate D5

And UA to AMS looks delayed!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Yes, this is my very first time on the 747-400 mixed configuration, warm welcomed

I also flew this exact same route on the combi 5 years ago..

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
At first it looks like ok, but in the end they told me that op up is not granted and I should pay for the upgrade.
No!.

How much did they want for it?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
To much sauce around the pasta from my point of view

That pasta looks flooded!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
I´ve even don´t noticed it when the FA cleared my tray and was very close to miss breakfast without a minute off dreamland in between

Wow, that is amazing. I guess your body was very tired after all the flying and early wake up calls
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
A good distance to walk with the special thing again, a queue at the European passports desk and simply no one in front at all passports.

Most people with a European passport don't seem to understand they can also use the All Passports lane..

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Asia, but Asia mainly as a starter for a trip down under.
There is just One World to go for Australia, isn´t it?:

Very much looking forward to those reports!

cheers,

Brendan

Hi Markus,

interesting report about your short trip to Texas. I also flew on KLM's Combi recently, but it wasn't a great flight.

KLM's Y Class catering cannot attract me, but the same can be said about its J Class catering.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Typical row 1 legroom here, not that much space to spread your legs. The aisle is also taken by an elder american guy again

That's a shame for First Class. I had more legroom in 1F on Wizz Air last year. And the catering is another joke. Who is willing to pay money for such a First Class product?
