Introduction

’ السلام عليكم,’
‘وعليكم السلام, please come in,’

The Majlis. Note the Persian carpet

’ شكرً, thank you for the hospitality,’
‘We are having coffee at the moment. Please join us,’
’Ouch, my ears! Where does the high-pitched sound come from?’
‘It’s your wakeup call! Your coffee is ready!’

Coffee set. Note the newspaper bag

’Chop chop! We don’t want to keep Driver Sebastian waiting too long for our airport transfer, do we?’

Sebastian with dedicated vehicle BMW 7

Terminal 1 Departures

’Where should we go for Qatar Airways? There are 189 counters spread over five check-in areas,’

FIDS

’Go to the respective entrance for pre-screening and proceed to the passport control,’

’We have got our mobile boarding passes, haven’t we?’
‘Yes, but nothing beats paper boarding passes!’

My boarding pass

’Wait a minute! 33D? Haven’t you chosen 44K for your Brussels flight?’

Seat selector

“There is an aircraft change,” Airport Service Agent Abbas explained, “I have assigned you thirty three D and E so that you can be seated together,”
“Is there any window seat left?”
“Only thirty one A, but the aisle seat is taken,”
“Sigh! Checked in online within thirty six hours before departure to get the best seats only to be messed up at the end!”
“I can assign thirty one A to one of you. Hopefully the customer occupying thirty one B would be kind enough to swap seats,”

صاح, صاحبة,

Despite the check-in inconvenience, Abbas helped think of possible solution to make our journey from Dubai to Brussels yet comfortable. Allow me the dedication of this story to Luke (Lukeboy95).

Conclusion

صاح, صاحبة,

I am so glad to find out that no matter what cabin class we were traveling in, we could always count on a superior service by Qatar Airways.

Apart from high quality food and drink, it was QR’s people who went the extra mile to make each of our journeys a great one:

Neha, Andreea, Adila and Bianca for taking good care of us on board;
Ana Maria for being exemplary Cabin Service Director;
Abbas for his assistance at DXB;
Tharanga for her assistance at DOH;
Roxanna and Jeroen for their assistance at BRU.

At the same time, I sincerely hope that my friend Luke will accept the dedication of the Economy Class experience all the way from Dubai.

Allow me this opportunity to thank all of you for the heartwarming replies in my Dubai trip report series. شكرًا!

Hi Suryo!

Thanks for another amazing report with amazing pictures !

It looks like you had some great flights on QR but too bad your seats on DOH-BRU had changed. It seems that QR has a lot of equipment changes especially on intra-Gulf flights.

Service and meals seem okay.

I'm very much looking forward to your next report!

Hello - o Suryo - o!

Thank you for this entertaining finale of your Dubai tale. You certainly inspired me to book my very first Middle Eastern experience in the city of Dubai, albeit not flying on a Middle Eastern but on a Euro carrier. A bit too bad because I would very have liked a taste of the QR experience ex my home airport BRU.

Not much to say about DXB-DOH short haul, pretty good stuff.

Bit surprised with DOH-BRU leg. Coffee in a paper cup? food didn't look appealing to me to be honest. Cabin does look nice, cozy and welcoming but little disappointed with presentation in Y (food wise). Cabin crew sounds fantastic and professional.

Great report, thanks for sharing it with us!
A bit dissapointed about the DXB-DOH segment, on AVOD on the 320's. Don't forget EK does fly their 777s on the same route.
Quite surprised to see one choice of meal as well (on the DOH-BRU leg), this does leave me with mixed feelings about QR

Hi Suryo and thank you for uploading your latest trip report.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Glass walled bridge

A definite plus, quite unlike the dreadful enclosed air bridges that we have at PER.

Once more you have received considerate and friendly service, which is good to see.

Shame about losing the seats that you originally requested but lucky that someone was willing to swap. Mind you, sometimes a sudden seat change is more than welcome.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
In-Flight Entertainment box behind the footrest

Good and bad. The box definitely restricts space - how can you store something under the seat in front of you, if it's taken up with an IFE-box? The footrest is excellent for those who are not as tall as others but a lot of airlines have either not installed them or have removed them to reduce weight and fuel burn.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
‘Would your palate be satisfied by this visual appearance?’

While the food may be tasty I feel that the presentation is somewhat lacking. To my mind it just looks cheap, but if the containers are genuinely recycled that is welcome.

All in all, the QR product appears decent enough for the prices they charge.

Best wishes,
Roy/ Quokka

That would really, really annoy me. It’s the whole reason we do online check-in and surely they should at least try and reassign you a window seat. At least things worked out in the end.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Good morning. Welcome onboard. I am Sergio, the captain of your flight. We are now ready for departure. Our flight time will be forty five minutes

I cannot believe what incredible service you got on such a short flight: pillows and even the hot wrap. Quite exceptional.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 4):
“Our flight is not full today. You can change seat once the boarding is completed,”

Phew, what a relief! And a bonus having such a considerate seatmate.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 4):
Doha’s skylines with Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel along the water

Gorgeous photo Suryo!

Quoting akhmad (Reply 5):
Breakfast presentation with croissant on a light-weight tray. Note the personal table mat underneath

Personally, I’m not such a fan of that tray. All the plastic packaging makes it looks a bit cheap. The wrap you got later looks much better.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 5):
Then, onto Malaysia for the fun of chocolaty goodness and cheesy cream!’

Now that is what I call a tasty snack!

Looking forward to reading about your next trip, whichever one that may be

Happy flying

It seems that QR has a lot of equipment changes especially on intra-Gulf flights.

Intra-Gulf flights are apparently unpredictable in terms of equipment deployment as A.net member Ojas has told me.

Haai Nils,

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
You certainly inspired me to book my very first Middle Eastern experience in the city of Dubai,

How nice to know that!

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
albeit not flying on a Middle Eastern but on a Euro carrier. A bit too bad because I would very have liked a taste of the QR experience ex my home airport BRU.

Then, you have a good excuse to fly with QR in the future.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
I hope you didn’t pay for the choice of seats?

Luckily not!

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
Although I can understand that due to operational reasons and a switch of eqpt, this action was necessary...

I just wish the switch had taken place before online check-in opened up.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
Ha ha, Spandau Ballet. Now that’s a real blast from the past for me

I knew you’d like it.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
From this angle, it has more the looks a Renault Kangoo than a Porsche Panamera

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
You do know that Sergio is a bit of a clownesque singer/songwriter in Belgium? No doubt about it that he was at the controls of your vessel lol!

The entertainer, the artist, the pilot! Oh yeah!

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
How I dislike those footrests! The only thing they do is take up valuable leg and foot space...
Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
Ouch, huge thing in the way!

I can’t blame you!

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
Isn’t DOH-BRU a daytime flight?

It was indeed a daytime flight. The window shades were blinded for the comfort of other customers.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
Wow, that’s very nice of the FA. Cherished moments...

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):
Well observed!

Thank you.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 11):

No doubt about it!

Hi there James,

it will be interesting to see how Emirates compare this coming weekend.

I would love to hear about your experience with Emirates.

Quoting jwhite9185 (Reply 12):
as do the seats, even on the A320 - much better than on a Euro hop!

Amazing how a seat design can make a difference, can’t it? The seat pitch is 31 inches, just similar to British Airways for instance.

Hello TheAviatorA380,

Bit surprised with DOH-BRU leg.

It’s a new presentation style of onboard meals using recyclable materials.

Hi Marc

Quoting MSS658 (Reply 17):
A bit dissapointed about the DXB-DOH segment, on AVOD on the 320's. Don't forget EK does fly their 777s on the same route.

You’ve made your point here.

Quoting MSS658 (Reply 17):
Quite surprised to see one choice of meal as well (on the DOH-BRU leg), this does leave me with mixed feelings about QR

There was indeed only one choice for the second meal, but there was Cinnamon and apricot crepe with maple syrup as well as second option for breakfast.

**********************************************************

Hi Roy,

So nice to hear from you again! Allow me to highlight your observation which I can only agree with:

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 19):
The box definitely restricts space - how can you store something under the seat in front of you, if it's taken up with an IFE-box?
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 19):
The footrest is excellent for those who are not as tall as others

Furthermore, what can be described as win-win situation:

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 19):
but a lot of airlines have either not installed them or have removed them to reduce weight and fuel burn.

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 19):
A definite plus, quite unlike the dreadful enclosed air bridges that we have at PER.

I remember the PER airbridge from last year.

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 19):
Mind you, sometimes a sudden seat change is more than welcome.

You’re right.

Quoting Quokkas (Reply 19):
but if the containers are genuinely recycled that is welcome.

I really hope so.

**********************************************************

Dear Hannah,

Quoting infodesk (Reply 20):
I found the pictures of DXB airport particularly interesting, as it’s somewhere I’ve never been.

My pleasure.

Quoting infodesk (Reply 20):
I cannot believe what incredible service you got on such a short flight: pillows and even the hot wrap. Quite exceptional.

Who am I to disagree?

Quoting infodesk (Reply 20):
Phew, what a relief!

Indeed!

Hi Suryo,

I just completed a PER - DOH - LHR return, all in 777s 300ER and 200LR in Y, due to the 787 grounding.

Just as you found, the staff were excellent. and I would give them 5 stars.

The food was good, with the exception of the Hot Sandwich mid flight, which I found almost inedible. To me a nice ice cream like on Qantas would have been nice, or a snack pack like on MAS. The meal service was a bit slower than expected, and on one leg the food had cooled quite a bit by the time we got ours.

It is a pity also, that during the meal service, the cold beverages could not be larger. Those tiny tins are not enough, and you have to wait an age to get another drink - maybe I should have asked for two at the time.

Your image of the candy also amused me. Why do they give the candy out before take off, when other airlines given them out prior to landing, to ease up the change in pressure on the ears.

Anyway, the seats and feeling of spaciousness on Qatar are much better than on EK, and that alone gives then a 5 star rating in my books.

Well, you have proved me wrong, and you cover a Y as eloquently as your other higher class reports.

No, not now-a-days. QR have been churning out this very generic looking offering for a good amount of time now. I think a bit of rebranding of catering would not do them wrong. I never thought about recyclable thingy with those paper cups, so fair enough.   Good from QR.

It is good to see QR addressing the environmental issues and concerns that are paramount in the travel industry today.

Hello Suryo, thanks for this report. Sounds like you had a pretty decent flight with QR. Hmm... Polish attendant? You know they say pictures are worth a thousand words.

Just because the neighbor didn’t fly to DOH. We would have gladly chosen it since it flew Anosh (SR103) in 2001 and Servaas (MEA-707) on September 7, 2003,’

I am surprised you even figured that out as I could not tell you what the registration was from that flight in 2001.

Hi Suryo,

As usual a superb trip report!

I very much enjoyed reading about the exemplary service of Qatar Airways, an airline that I would like to experience myself! Perhaps if the rumours of them sending a 787 to Birmingham become true I might get my wish!

I really loved your anecdotes and facts about the places that you saw from the aircraft! It really brings the report to life.

Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Daniel.

Sad, just when scheduling is disrupted such things are bound to happen. Plus QR does swap -200 and -300 a lot.

Learning of the prospect of empty middle row, Mr. 31B immediately agreed with 33D.

Good that this got sorted.

One of the best touches of a TR.

Hoi Suryo,

What a great last part of your short trip to Dubai! QR once again looks very good, even in Economy! You were treated with some great views around Dubai & Doha, enjoyed those pictures very much
Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
“There is an aircraft change,” Airport Service Agent Abbas explained, “I have assigned you thirty three D and E so that you can be seated together,”
“Is there any window seat left?”
“Only thirty one A, but the aisle seat is taken,”
“Sigh! Checked in online within thirty six hours before departure to get the best seats only to be messed up at the end!”

That sure is very frustrating, good to see it was solved on the plane!

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Footrest

I always find those to be very irritating, I never use it and it takes up my space I surely need...
