Welcome to my first ever Trip Report on airliners.net, for the last year or so, I have loved reading your trip reports and now I want to do my own. Please Note: this trip was taken in August 2012 as I couldn't wait to do my first report which is coming up this July. So sit back, relax and enjoy the Trip Report.
Porter Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 climbing out after take off!
Crossing to the Island to no more the 3 minutes
No CN Tower today, also note the 2 Arkia Israel Airlines Dash 7s!
Check In, Security and the Lounge
Since we were only going up to Ottawa to fly Porter, we only had hand luggage so we checked in on the automatic machines. Security was a breeze and the officers were so helpful and nice. TSA take a leaf out of Canada's book! Now on to the lounge. Free snacks, drinks in real glassware, Latte machine and really comfortable chairs! Only downside, was how crowded the lounge was, maybe I too picky!
Date: August 27th 2012
Aircraft: Bombardier Dash 8-Q400
Registration: ? Anyone help me with this?
Fleet Number: ?
Flight Duration: 44 minutes
Boarding was very smooth and luckily I was first to board!
Cabin looking forward
Beautiful Prop with the CN Tower behind. Perfect Picture!
Safety demo performed manually with an English and French recording, makes it a lot easier for the 2 cabin crew to do it. As the demo started, our propellers were started up and we began our short taxi to Runway 26. Take of was the best take off I've had- our prop at full thrust whilst we held at the Runway threshold as soon as the brakes were released we rocketed in to the air. As soon as the captain turned off the fasten seat belt sign the cabin crew jumped in to action on the short flight with drinks in a real glass and a snack box with a mini chicken wrap, pot of salad and a small chocolate.
One of the best Cabin Crews I have ever had! Love that pillbox hat too!
Soon it was time for our descent in to Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport and one thing that surprised me that the landing gear was put down quite early into our descent. Is this normal?
My Aircraft which brought me up to Ottawa
The quiet Potter Ottawa Lounge. I guess not many people know it is here!
After having a couple packets of biscuits and a drink it was time to go to the gate. And who was waiting? A six-month-old Q400NextGen score!
Take-off was exactly the same as the one from YTZ- short and powerful. And tonight's offering in a delicious snack basket with Vegetable Chips, Cookies, Nuts etc and drinks in a real glass. I also wanted to see the rear galley on the Dash 8 so I asked the F/A.
Rear Galley; the F/A even tided it up before I took the picture
Note: the propeller shaped cloud on the far left
After 25 pure minutes on cloud 9 we began our decent in to Billy Bishop but something was not right, we were banking over the darkness of Lake Ontario, we couldn't be landing at YTZ and sure enough we weren't! As there was a large thunderstorm over Toronto Billy Bishop and Pearson were both closed and our reserve fuel was running out so we had to be diverted to Hamilton. Bonus Flight! And guess who parked next to us, our sister ship Fleet Number 826.
After 1 hour, we took off again in to the night sky and soon landed in Billy Bishop after 10 minutes flying time.
Our arrival in Toronto! Sorry about the fuzzy picture.
All in all, Porter Airlines is one of the best airlines in the world with a 4* rating from Skytrax nothing can beat it. I wish Porter all the luck in the future and with their planned expansion. Good Luck Porter!
First flight in my life was on one of Arkia's Dash 7s.

That looks great. I hope to fly Porter on my next visit to Toronto.

Very generus for such a short hop!

Must be a new record to your logbook.
Thank you for shearing - it was a great report. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to a.net.....and always enjoy reading trip reports on Porter as I see the little bugs coming into land at Billy Bishop airport quite often....
Porter's crews really look great in that uniform....Very retro look on a very modern airline...perfect blend!! And they give you all that in such a short flight, including drinks in actual glasses!! Nice.

The Dash-7s you see there on the island are now owned by Transcapital Air Ltd. They perform UN contracts abroad and were probably purchased for the sake of parting the out for the aircrafts they currently have abroad. Shame to see that happen to them. So I hope thats not the case.
