Trip report: Turkish airlines Istanbul – Bangkok in Business class
I hoped you all liked my first trip report. This is the second one covering the flight between Istanbul and Bangkok.

Arrival time: 10.05 am
After deplaning the aircraft I made my way to the security check before going into the transit area. I love it how IST changed his policy and that they finally stopped their security check at the gate. It is worth nothing that it was quite empty as I was the first one to arrive.
I actually used to love Istanbul Ataturk airport but it became just way to small.
It is always so overcrowded and doesn’t just offer not enough amenities for passengers. Anyway after buying some delicious Turkish sweets, I made my way to the lounge.
I’m sorry that I didn’t take pics of the lounge , but I’ll do in future ☺
Once entered the lounge you need to scan your boarding card and then the automatic doors open, same way like in a subway. Te be fair, there is someone standing next to it, in case help is needed.
The lounge is average I guess. It has some amenities that can make it the best lounge in the world but on the downside it’s always super crowded, it took about 10 minutes to find an empty seat which is quite unacceptable. Also the lack of power ports were a disappointment, as today’s passengers carry so much electronical equipment (Ipads, smart phones, laptops, camera’s, headsets etc....)
On the positive, the food in the lounge is also catered by DO&CO and that’s the part where the lounge truly shines. There is a Pizza booth where a couple of chefs make it fresh, there is a lovely grill station as well. My favourite is the Turkish mezze buffet and the dessert buffet.
Drink selection is quite good and offers a wide range of Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. About 40 minutes before scheduled departure time the FIDS wasn’t showing boarding yet, but nevertheless I headed to the gate.
Once Arrived at the gate, I was pleasantly surprised that boarding was already well underway and was actually the last business class passenger to get onboard.
Loads were both 100% in Y and J, quite impressive for this early evening flight as they send an even bigger A340-300 to Bangkok just 4 hours later.
I was welcomed aboard by 2 young female flight attendants who would later on serve the J cabin. There were 4 female flight attendants serving that night and were not overly warm, nevertheless very professional and quite pro-active, so I‘ll give a “thumbs up” for the crew that night.
I made my way towards my seat 1E, and was seated next to a very friendly German guy. Once seated a welcome drink was directly offered (champagne, orange juice, water and a refreshing mock tail). After boarding was completed, the female chef came around the cabin welcoming us on board and gave a small GODIVA box with a nice chocolate inside. Being Belgian it is nice to eat our chocolate abroad ☺.
Shortly afterwards, the rest of the crew came round with Crabtree & Evelyn amenity kits, slippers and a selection of international magazines and newspapers. Headphones were already waiting, together with a plush pillow and blanket at my seat. Legroom in 1E was slightly better as it’s a bulkhead seat.
Soon it was time for take off and after a short taxi at 20.10 we were up in the air on our way to BKK. Being a full A332 that night it took close to 20 minutes before the seat belt sign went off.
I decided to play a bit with the IFE and selected the nice movie “Moulin rouge” featuring Nicole Kidman.
After 40 minutes airborne the chef came around with our personalized menus and a Turkish airlines branded pen. On the right was a breakfast form which was collected afterwards. There was a separate wine list as well given out.
Before the actual meal service there were canapés served together with my first Gin Tonic for that evening ☺.
Afterwards the crew laid out my table nicely and mineral water was given as well ☺. So no plates in business on TK! Being a quite early departure was nice, as most passengers stayed awake and whole the cabin was chatting with each other, which gave an exclusive feeling about it.
A refill for my Gin Tonic was offered which I gratefully accepted and soon afterwards the appetizers rolled out of the gallery. It gave a bit of a “first class” feeling to be able to select your food like this. The F/A was very pro active and told me that I should try here favourite, the yoghurt, as well and it turned out to be excellent! This kind of service was also given by Srilankan when I flew them a couple of years back!
The second course was the potato leek soup, which was quite tasty, and I had it together with a 3rd Gin Tonic that evening.
I usually don’t eat much fish while flying but decided to give the grilled sea bream fillet a shot and was just great! Very close to restaurant quality actually! I had it with a nice glass of French white wine, which was properly chilled.
After an already close to 2h meal service the dessert trolley came by, and offered a huge choice! I had just some fruits and coconut ice cream, as I was full by that time.
I ended the meal service with some nice tea and a glass of Hennesy VSOP.
After this wonderful meal service I changed into something more comfortable , turned my seat into the lie flat position and slept until the flight attendant waked me for breakfast.
While the seat wasn’t up to today’s full flat bed standards it was very nice, and I slept like a baby in it. To be fair it is one of the better lie flat seats out there, and I didn’t mind at all sitting here for 9 hours or so.
As I was still quite full I decided to skip the hot course, and I just had the appetizer, which turned out to be quite tasty.
Soon afterwards we made our final descend into BKK airport and all to soon this flight came to an end and a full day of work was already waiting for me...
At door 1L, there were some Thai agents giving out premium passes, so we could use the fast lane which is highly appreciated! Even Thai doesn’t give them to their passengers !!!
Priority tags worked perfectly and my bag came out number #8.
Once again I had a nice flight with TK and I’ll fly them in the future again for sure!
Does anyone know if they are planning to retrofit their A332’s with the new J cabin as well?

Some people like to be left alone, so it is a delicate art of knowing how to balance friendliness and professional services.

That's my drink of choice as well. I would take a refill based on all that food. I must say the food looks great.

Bonjour Bonviveur! With such a name, no wonder you've enjoyed TK's great service. A great report, it was great fun reading both parts. I fully agree with you when you comment on the lack of space at IST, let's hope the new airport will be built on time. Overall, food and beverages play a huge role in the Turkish experience. Although I've often noticed some inconsistency in terms of crew, the airline's catering department never failed.

Thanks for reading my 2nd Trip report as well. I completely agree with you said about the art of serving passengers,
and this crew did a good job on it!
Also newer blockbusters were available on this flight, although most of the options were already a few years old.
And yes, with a lot of food you don't need to feel guilty when drinking a lot

only time will tell I guess.
As you also noticed on your TK flights, (like everybody else here on A.net) the food is indeed splendid and crew can sometimes be a letdown. Hope they give their crew additional training on customer service!

Good to read you 2nd installment and I'm happy to see this TK flight was up to your expectations. Indeed the catering on TK seems one of the better ones out there. I haven't had a chance to fly TK yet, I was considering them to fly to DXB in Nov but I chose another carrier due to better timings.

Turkish looks very good, espacially their food options are looking much better than on all the other EU airline, e.g. Lufhansa. I will fly on TK in summer in Economy, but nevertheless I think it will be nice as well!

Really good trip report! I have heard great things of their J class. I love how they bring the food out on the trolley - that is very first class. I recently flew a 2 hour flight on Turkish from TLV to IST in economy - the food was great for such a short flight so I can only imagine what it is like in J on long-haul
