"Short connections around the Isle of Man"

The trip in one word:

TIGHT

This is a story about the Tripreporter´s and his companion´s narrow, well supernarrow, timelimit to visit the main capital of these small, in relation to money not so small island, a supertight connection thanx to the next set of schedule changes and maybe one more upgrade, who knows!.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301170_zpsd6f164bd.jpg

Dear queens and lads,

but wait, no more scousers talking, this is gone with the last story and the visit to Liverpool:

"Give Me Five Tripreporters For Man" (by FLIEGER67 Jun 15 2013 in Trip Reports)

Start over, this is the Isle of Man right now.

Dy bannee diu, dear readers,

there are some flights to go also today and it looks like this on the map:

http://www.gcmap.com/map?P=iom-man-ams-str&MS=wls&MR=120&MX=540x540&PM=*

With special thanx to:

http://www.gcmap.com/

as usual.

Something new on the departure airports map?.
Not with this part of the story:

Departure Airports II auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

But the Tripreporter 2013 map grows further and further:

TRIPREPORTER 2013 auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

Here are the previous 200 departure places:

Departure airports auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

So, IOM airport is the place where we are,
some work is to do now here.

Service BE 818 operated by FlyBe
Scheduled: 16.05 // 16.55

The more experienced FlyBe travellers know that the OLCI system designs you it´s seat of choice, not you´re seat of choice, everything else is payed service. Therefore we are not checked-in and looking for the counter inside the somewhat oldfashioned terminal
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301125_zps53ad8c7e.jpg
The counter is swiftly identified but it is not staffed.
What should we do now?.
Wait till they open it or heading for the city with the risk of the last crappy seats when we are back?.
But out of nowhere there is a supernice, american so it seems, elder woman around the desk and she decides to check us in with a good conversation about our intentions here and her job around.
Nice people at the Isle of Man.
Booking is done directly via the BE website, again with a little help from my friends and the fare is 35.00 Pounds this way.
The flight looks like ontime, so a short, well supershort visit to Douglas sounds possible
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301126_zpsf21bb322.jpg
The fare is 5.00 Pounds return, ok this way.
The bus runs not that really frequently but it´s ontime, that counts!.
Nice buildings here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301127_zps225bd6e7.jpg
It seems thats some kind of habit in the area with these large clocks!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301128_zpsb6e68490.jpg
Well, you´re privacy is respected at this place
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301129_zps899a2de4.jpg
Douglas seaside
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301130_zpsa1ace33f.jpg
The place where the famous Douglas Bay Horse Tramway ride´s during the summertime
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301131_zps156c3afd.jpg
How to built you´re house here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301132_zps408fafe7.jpg
And well, some ten minutes later we are at the bus stop for the way back to the airport with fortunately another driver on duty. The first one would call us crazy, well and he is right just from a standard travellers point of view!.
Security is open when we are back at the airport, no time to wait for us.
And just to my surprise there is a lounge on offer good with Diners
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301134_zps08ae6883.jpg
The place to go now
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301133_zpsc6e42cb4.jpg
Out of the lounge close to boarding time for a standard IOM view like this
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301135_zps96c21e51.jpg
Only jet´s are allowed here to park face to face!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301136_zpsea411751.jpg
The Saab is also an interesting way to go for LCY while G-ECOE is at least something new for me or not?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301137_zps9443dad8.jpg
Ground service Let style
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301138_zps118ea5a7.jpg
Something new on the screen for me from gate 4?.
The Dash 8-400 is on schedule by no surprise
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301139_zps5e920a7f.jpg
Time to say goodbye to my nice travel companion on the way back to LPL just a couple of minutes later.
After one, two, three or a thousand goodbye´s I´am down the stairs to see if there is something new on the apron for me.
Well, G-ECOO spend a lazy afternoon at IOM, no activity and someone up there decides that the next step after LPL-IOM is MAN with me again included.
Not that the one up there is interested in my farewell to this plane just a couple of hours ago.
Leg no. 31 on type and the third time on this machine now. In the air since 31.01.2009 with BE, 41 planes are still in the fleet. No individual name, no incidents recorded
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301140_zps31f5ac26.jpg
4.15 pm, 10 minutes late and 30 minutes to ride for MAN by "Jersey".
Departure from the 1837 meters runway "Zero-Eight", leaving Purt Aer Vannin with 3 degrees and some high clouds only.
Ok, this perspective is at least new to me from seat 1A,
not that I´ve selected it this way in advance.
Late boarding, nice talking with a young female FA, large glasses, black hair, powerful. Did I ever mention that I like England?. No?. I should do it right now!. Supernice and the aisle seat remains open.
There is another young and ok female FA on board.
The captain sounds like from Espagna, a nice welcome during boarding with some flight details and an also nice "Gracias for flying BE today" later on.
No route details, but flightlevel is 15000 feet.
Bright blue leather, also upfront really well used and not that perfectly clean
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301141_zpsbd007457.jpg
I´am always surprised to see these french written safety cards by BE
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301142_zps4e449689.jpg
The load is 80%, VFR travellers on the way.
Up in the air
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301143_zpsb2572a6c.jpg
Forward cabin view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301144_zpsa00c6d9b.jpg
Service is BoB.
Something for me?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301145_zpsba73e9e8.jpg
Well, the snack deal sounds good
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301146_zps3c7a43f2.jpg
The FO announced arrival shortly and
land ahoy!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301148_zps7cd82cfc.jpg
Touchdown at the 3048 meters "Two-Three-Right", 4.50 pm, 5 minutes ahead to schedule, 10 degrees and high clouds only.
This is the previous mentioned tight connection.
Original schedule during booking was 3.35 pm departure and 4.25 pm arrival, what means 1.00 hour, 15 minutes till scheduled departure by KL. Now these change gave me some more time at the Isle of Man, good to chat, but also only 45 minutes left till the KL flight and it is not yet clear if I should go all the way through arrivals for a new security check.
Will I reach my next flight?.
As an alternative I´ve fixed a mileage ticket by M&M, departure ex MAN 6.50 pm via ZRH to STR.
Both flights on Helvetic machines, also interesting
and no problem to cash back miles and taxes, fees if it´s not needed, what is the first thing to hope for now.

Service KL 1094 operated by KLM
Scheduled: 17.40 // 19.55

This is as relaxed as it should be anytime.
By bus to the domestic entrance,
up the stairs for connections, no extra security
and the KL boarding pass is printed at the BE service counter by a nice young english woman, well done.
Well, it seems it helps that BE and KL both operate from terminal 3.
And to sum it up, BE was ahead to schedule, KL shows a 15 minutes delay, perfect in this case
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301149_zps1fd5ce25.jpg
No schedule change here by surprise.
This is leg three on the Flugladen.de confirmation, the fare 35.00 Euro´s again.
There is even a visit to the BE Executive Lounge possible
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301150_zps18fcad9b.jpg
That´s the one to go for AMS at gate 48 pictured from the lounge

The 737-800 like on schedule.
Something new?. Hopefully!. Leg no. 68 on type and no, no, nothing new to the log. Counted more than 300 legs ago on AMS-LHR
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301155_zpsbebf0b49.jpg
"Grouse / Koerhoen" is around with KL since 30.06.1999
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301156_zps17f83e78.jpg
24 planes on type are in the fleet and this is one of the oldest examples. No incidents are recorded for this machine
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301157_zps925ebd3f.jpg
Well, late boarding, you know, the middle aged purser is at the planes door with a nice welcome face to face and a nice follow up conversation with these middle aged female FA, cute, black curly hair, really nice,
shows me just like a miracle three seats open in the exit row and the window 12F is now ready for me.
Sure ok with a 90% load of mostly VFR and weekend travellers around.
Mixed blue red fabric seats here, clean and generous legroom
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301158_zps9961cbed.jpg
There are three more female FA´s on duty, one elder maybe from Suriname, one younger, blonde and one also younger with short blonde hair, sturdy, but also nice.
Adamspotter/Brendan is also booked on this service and he told me yesterday about his seat decision.
I located and waved him in the rear cabin.
5.50 pm, ten minutes late, 50 minutes only for AMS. No time to lose, a rolling takeoff by "KLM" from the 3050 meters runway "Two-Three-Left" with 8 degrees and high clouds follows.
Cabin view

Cockpit crew is from the Netherlands, the captain with nice and detailed informations inflight and also an apologize for the late departure. Neither a route nor a flightlevel information is shown.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301162_zps55ef1a13.jpg
Immediatelly after the seatbelt sign is off
I´ve done a walk for the back cabin and
told Brendan about the open exit row, what he
swiftly accepted and takes the aisle seat.
Good for some more chat inflight.
Service delicious dutch style
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301163_zps1e350ba5.jpg
Touchdown at the 3500 meters "Kaagbaan/Zero-Six", 7.50 pm, 5 minutes ahead to schedule, 7 degrees and high clouds here also.
We bid farewell, Brendan takes the AMS exit and I join the long queue at passport control heading for the Schengen gates.
Well, there is an elder tough airport staff woman around, pushes all the non Sky Priority pax off the respective line and so it was a matter of minutes to go through for me.

Service KLM KL 1879 operated by KLM Cityhopper
Scheduled: 20.55 // 22.10

What about the last leg around this trip?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301164_zpscb4d8fa2.jpg
Surprise again, no more schedule change.
And the fare is like the other three legs on the Flugladen.de confirmation, 35.00 Euro´s.
A shorty visit to the KL Crown Lounge is also possible on the way from Schengen immigrations to the B gates.
At the gate with the last pax to board what looks like the standard for me these days.
B5 is one of the terminal stairs down and plane stairs up gates, no bus service needed
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301165_zpsd528d0d3.jpg
Looks like nice in the evening
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301166_zpsd0dc2385.jpg
And looks like even more relaxed when you know that you don´t need to walk all the way to the back of the plane while you´re boarding pass shows seat 2A, biz. This is definitely a good upgrade quote around this weekend
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301167_zpseee4a7ff.jpg
A warm welcome to PH-EZO, the scheduled Embraer 190, leg no. 17 on type and this is finally a new entry to the log. No individual name recorded
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301168_zps7a14cf80.jpg
With "City" since 01.04.2010, 22 examples are in the fleet right now.
Here is a story with the machine:
http://avherald.com/h?article=44e567f3&opt=0
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301169_zps97a9acdf.jpg
This plane is packed to the limits, it seems one more good job loadwise for KL.
Cockpit crew is from the Netherlands.
The captain with a nice and detailed welcome after boarding, some ATC restrictions for AMS departures, but nothing serious to expect.
50 minutes to go, on the way at 9.05 pm, ten minutes late, departure from the 3300 meters "Zwanenburgbaan/Three-Six-Center", 6 degrees and high clouds.
I have a seatmate here, one of these supernervous
or maybe superexcited young, not to often biz travellers.
Why do you need to go in full suit even with tie Sunday in the evening?.
Well, who knows, it seems he also don´t really know what happens in biz here.
Dark blue leather seats, clean so far upfront.
Biz service started soon after departure
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301170_zpsd6f164bd.jpg
Legroom is a little tight with my travelbag filled up with precious english stuff
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301171_zps9b1f0cfe.jpg
Cabin crew is two female FA´s, one middle aged nice with a tough style, ok, she´s the boss here
and one younger maybe turkish, also nice woman.
Forward cabin view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301172_zps9a381fc7.jpg
The FO is on the mike inflight with informations in a nice style and also a bye-bye short to approach.
Routing is via DUS-CGN and FRA, no flightlevel info.
Safety on board, sure
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB1301/GB1301173_zps1e1249a8.jpg
Not that long thereafter the seatbelt sign comes up again, the homebase airport shows me runway "Zero-Seven" for arrivals. 10.05 pm, short ahead to schedule, 5 degrees and clear sky here.
Swiftly out of the terminal. The car is where it should be and like it should be and
not that long thereafter again I´am in dreamland to
let my mind count together all these things what happened around these perfectly nice weekend.
Well, also the flu decided it´s over and gave up!.

Conclusions, sure:
1.)FlyBe IOM-MAN: Calm and short once more.
2.)KLM MAN-AMS: Comfy and good company in the exit row.
3.)KLM Cityhopper AMS-STR: Always these upgrades!.

Great thanx again to my travelmate or better said queen
and also good to have another flight together with Brendan.

So, exactly two weeks to go now for a new place on the map where I want to visit since a long time and not only me, I will ask you in advance the next time, I promise!.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1301/F1301043_zps89e22532.jpg

Slane ayd, we live not only for flying or writing, yes we live also for comments, let them come!.

Hi Markus,

good to follow your return trip from the Isle of Man. Funny that you actually went to Douglas for just 10 minutes, that's the true tripreporter style   ...

And finally some nice flights on your way back, just a shame that you got the same Dash 8 as on your inbound flight. Also well done with your tight connection at MAN, seems to be well organized here.

Greetings
CaptainRed

Hi there Markus, good to read this second part of your trip.

I thought my trip to Muscat was short... It was pretty relaxed going by your trip to the IOM! I agree with the BE OLCI system - it's a bit rubbish, although luckily the only time I used it, I was granted a decent seat. Won't play roulette like that again though!

Good to know that the connections in MAN T3 are pretty straightforward too - as I have a fairly tight connection coming up in August, although its on the same ticket so should be fine.

Well done with the upgrade once more - I guess that's down to your status?

Looking forward to reading more!

A shorty Muscat visit?. That sounds good to read!.

Hi Markus,

Where better to start with my backlog than part 2 of the MAN weekend!

So glad that things worked out in the end, although it could have been a very different story. Super that you got another upgrade, a perfect ending to the weekend & nice that you and Brendan logged another flight together.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
But out of nowhere there is a supernice, american so it seems, elder woman around the desk and she decides to check us in with a good conversation about our intentions here and her job around.

Yeah, she was really nice.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
It seems thats some kind of habit in the area with these large clocks!

True!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And well, some ten minutes later we are at the bus stop for the way back to the airport with fortunately another driver on duty. The first one would call us crazy, well and he is right just from a standard travellers point of view!.

Crazy? Never!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
The Saab is also an interesting way to go for LCY while G-ECOE is at least something new for me or not?

Afraid not, that was reserved for me
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Time to say goodbye to my nice travel companion on the way back to LPL just a couple of minutes later.
After one, two, three or a thousand goodbye´s I´am down the stairs to see if there is something new on the apron for me.

I think we earned ourselves a few looks again!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Did I ever mention that I like England?. No?. I should do it right now!.

Come on, you like most countries
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
The FO announced arrival shortly and
land ahoy!

I think that’s Formby.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Biz service started soon after departure

What was that meal exactly? It looks very meat heavy.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Legroom is a little tight with my travelbag filled up with precious english stuff

Yes, I can see that!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Great thanx again to my travelmate or better said queen

Moving up in the world is she? She was a "only" a princess last year
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
So, exactly two weeks to go now for a new place on the map where I want to visit since a long time and not only me, I will ask you in advance the next time, I promise!.

I’ll hold you to that promise!

Happy flying

Still not enough!.
