Welcome to my first trip report at Airliners.net. I always enjoy reading many reports here and I felt it was time to write one myself. As this is my first report, some things will go wrong. Therefore, let me say sorry before I commence.
After a few days in New York we went to the Turks & Caicos Islands in the Caribbean. I decided to make a report of the 3 legs we had to fly on our way back home (Eindhoven, Netherlands).
When we went back to MBPV - Providenciales airport we had lots of time. Our flight was scheduled to depart around 3 PM. MBPV is a nice and charming airport, with only a few desks and only one security scan. We went through pretty quickly and then settled in a small but great lounge with a nice American couple from LAX. in Miami we would have 3 hours to get our connecting flight to LHR. After 20 minutes in the lounge, it became clear that our flight was delayed for 2 hours due to bad weather in MIA (where our B752 was coming from.)
We heard from the couple that AA has a bad on-time record at MBPV and we already started to worry if we would make it in MIA to get our flight to LHR. MIA isn't that good if you have a tight connecting flight but we did not expect to have 30 minutes in stead of 3 hours in MIA.
at 6 PM boarding started for AA1694 to MIA.
Flight time: 1 hr 20 minutes.
Load: I would say 20%

We were among the first passengers to board and it was already clear to me that this was one of the older 757 AA operates. You can see clearly that the paint is scrapped at some places and from the inside we saw a rather old interior showing it's age. I wonder if AA is going to paint this plane in the new AA livery or if this plane isn't going to fly anymore for AA in the near future. The rather old business class seats though were pretty comfy and they offer a lot of space.

We were offered some drinks by a nice member of the cabin crew who told us that we would have to put our running shoes on if we want to get on BA208 in MIA :
Our flight to LHR leaves at 20:45 and AA1694 was delayed from 14:55 to 18:00.
The seatbelt sign was on almost the entire flight. The cabin crew was nice, not very special though. The low load resulted in a quick and powerful take-off. No lunch or anything was offered except some drinks.

During the flight I decided to test out the WiFi on board. It costs around 10$ for a 24hr connection and I was impressed. The WiFi was pretty quick and I had to get used to the fact that internet is also possible at 36.000 feet. I checked the connecting flight BA208 if it was delayed (unfortunately not) and I answered some emails. In Europe not many airliners offer WiFi if I'm correct.
The ride was a bit bumpy, but the approach into KMIA wasn't. Great landing performed by the captain.
While taxiing to the gate, I spotted Air Force One, so probably Mr. President Obama was visiting or leaving Miami.

The cabin crew told us that we had to go through customs and get our baggage and re-check them in for BA208. We thought that we did not have to do this because AA and BA are OneWorld partners. Unfortunately KMIA is one of the few airports to have this kind of regulation. That adds up some time but luckily everything went pretty fast because it wasn't to busy and we nearly made it after running the marathon. (If we wouldn't have made it, there was an AA flight to LHR later that evening, but I had to be home because of an appointment the following day).

While boarding one of my favorite planes, we were greeted by a nice member of the cabin crew who showed us were we would spend the night. The BA club world seats are very very comfy, though I don't like this lay-out of the Business class seats (on more airliners:some face forward, some face backwards).
I do like the nice interior such as the wood and lamps, it gives the interior of the airplane a cosy touch.
Having some tomato juice and nuts, you should try the combination!
The captain came over on the PA and told us some information (duration: 7 hr 23 minutes) of the flight, and that we (and every other airplane) would have to wait at the gate for another hour because Air Force One was at the airport and was about to leave KMIA. He said Air Force One gets priority. Passengers were told that they were free to move around the cabin and do whatever they want until the seatbelt sign went on around 21:40.
Meanwhile, cabin crew handed out the amenity kit and a menu card for today's flight:
As a starter I took the salmon and the main course the fillet of beef.
While taxiing to the runway we came across many police cars and a few ambulances as well as other cars with flashing lights. I think I've counted hundred of them.
The starter was very tasteful (salmon), the toasted bread was cold, but I always like the baked rolls on the airplane.
The main course was good, however the fillet of beef wasn't that tasteful.
At one time we were flying with a speed of 1033 KM/H.
The IFE of BA is a nice system, but unfortunately they don't offer many movies. If they want to compete with airliners such as EK or EY on the IFE platform they should get some more movies on the IFE HighLife.
After a good meal I decided to get some sleep, and I slept almost 4 hours. I woke up 40 minutes before landing.
10 minutes later the captain came over on the PA and told us that we would be holding above LHR because it was busy (when isn't it busy at LHR?). It took about 20 minutes and it was followed by a pretty good landing.

After this flight we had a connecting flight to AMS and a drive back to my hometown EIN.
BA434 to AMS was a bit delayed, but it was a good flight which took around 40 minutes.
After all it was a good flight (both AA and BA) but we were a bit unlucky that none of our flights departed on-time. AA should do something at it's interior as well as exterior on this plane (but they should keep the plane because I'm also fan of B757's . BA should add some movies at it's IFE HighLife. It was a good trip back and I enjoyed the service of both airlines.

This is standard in U.S. airports--no sterile areas for international-international connections, and all have to go through customs. Did you have to actually get your bags retagged (ie did the groundstaff in PLS tag them to LHR/Eindhoven), or was it simply a matter of picking them up off the carousel, walking them through customs, and then dropping them off on a conveyor belt for connecting flights?

The bags were tagged to AMS, but we had to pick them off the carousel and walk through customs with them, then drop them off on a belt for connecting flights, just like you said. I did not know this is the case at more airports in the US however we were in a rush and thought we wouldn't be on time but we made it eventually.

If you fly international-to-international via ATL with DL, you do not need to pick up your bags and take them to a baggage drop counter. You still have to go through immigration (Homeland Security) but no need to go fetch your checked luggage. I believe the same is true for international-to-international connections with UA at IAH.

Yes it's a bit strange that it is some kind of different regulations at some airports in the US. However you'll always need to go through immigration. On our way to JFK from AMS via LHR our bags were tagged to JFK, but we had a very tight connection in LHR so our baggage wasn't on our plane. The compensation you get from AA or BA is very nice though..
