I checked-in and chose my seats online the day previous, and so on arrival to Terminal 2 at DUB I made my way straight for security. After security I had a look around the pretty shopping area in T2 before heading to Pier E to get some Lavazza coffee.

Pier E was largely quite at this time of the day; the major rush is typically between 6am and 12pm with the first flows of European and US departures. At its endpoint where there are nice views of the main runway 28/10 at Dublin.

The timing of EI778 meant that also on stand at that time would be EK162, the Emirates 77W which operates the daily DXB-DUB route.

I also caught a video of the pushback, see here:

After EK161 taxiied away my own flight had began boarding directly opposite the EK gate. I was hoping for an Airbus A321 aircraft as it usually made sporadic appearances on the route, however I was not in luck this day.

There was a full load for this day's flight, but there was no delay and soon we were taxiing to runway 28.

Here's a video capturing the takeoff and inital ascent:

As always, the EI bar service began shortly afterwards. On offer were buy-on-board drinks and snacks. We opted for a pasta meal and goats cheese salad. As a note, the Aer Lingus SkyDeli menu has since been significantly revamoed and now offers excellent pre-order meals for both short- and long-haul networks. OA260 has some great reviews of these new meals!

Both were of very reasonable quality for their price, myself liking the goat's cheese salad in particular.

Not long afterwards we began to encounter some turbulence, and I managed to capture some of it on camera:

Despite this little excitement, the remainder of the flight was uneventful, passing over the Algarve, Portugal and then eventually reaching the Canaries.

Coming in to land at ACE was very windy, and the video linked below demonstrates that quite well!

The aircraft was quickly disembarked upon arrival at the stand at ACE, with the groups of holidaymakers all eager to reach their respective resorts!

While in Lanzarote I made the obligatory trip to do some spotting at ACE! Below are some of the aircraft I saw!

After a pleasant few days in Lanzarote it was time to go home. Again, we had checked-in online, thus avoiding the long check-in queue at the airport and only having to walk to the bag drop-off desk. Afterwards it was on through to security and then airside shopping. The offering at ACE is rather poor, so I just opted for a coffee to have in the outside smoking area.

As the inbound EI778 was 30mins delayed, it meant an extra while having to wait for our own flight. Finally, the 12.7 year old A321 [EI-CPH] made its arrival, joining a company A320 at the gates.

Already delayed, the aircraft underwent a speedy turn-around and soon all were onboard and the plane pushed back.

Takeoff was nothing short of spectacular, with the A321 demonstrating some 757-like power!

The rest of the flight was nothing out of the ordinary, these are the pics from the rest of the flight:

Both flights were very pleasant and it was a much more comfortable experience than flying the route with Ryanair would've been. I look forward to trying the new pre-order meals from EI.

Regards,

Hey 321NEO, thanks for the report!

I really liked that pasta meal, shame it's no longer on the menu but maybe it could make a comeback as a new pre-order option. Great videos as well, loved the A321 climb out but haven't been on one myself in a couple of years as they've become less frequent at LHR recently.

Hope to see more reports from you!

Don't think it is but the current but-on-board food selection from EI is super !

Hi there,

Nice short report on EI, seems decent enough indeed. I too would prefer them over FR on those longer routes! Thanks for sharing!
