Hello and a warm welcome to the latest story. There are just one or two plane and location pictures and the sun is also out in Turkey, enjoy!

„A turkish ensemble for Izmir“

The trip in one word:

„SUNNY“

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301120_zps90c3d186.jpg

This is a story about the sunny early summer visit to the third largest turkish city, fixed and failed some time ago. Reason enough to try it again!

Merhaba, sevgili okuyucular,

what is the usual intro for:

Hello, dear readers,

one day to rest at the homebase after:

"My Personal Farewell To The SK MD" (by FLIEGER67 Jul 18 2013 in Trip Reports)

and now it´s time to join the skies again.

What about this way?:

http://www.gcmap.com/map?P=str-dus-saw-adb-fra&MS=wls&MR=120&MX=540x540&PM=*

Thanx to, once again:

http://www.gcmap.com/

A new entry is counted as no. 241 on the departure airports map:

Departure Airports II auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

Something new also with the Tripreporter 2013 file:

TRIPREPORTER 2013 auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

And these are the previous 200 departure stations:

No more intro needed, let´s go!.

Service airberlin AB 6833 operated by LGW
Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter
Scheduled: 07.55 // 09.00

This is what seems the standard for me and not only these days!. 04.45 am by the cellphone alarm is set
and not that long thereafter I´am on the way for the airport again.
The car should spend the night at it´s second home what means P0!.
OLCI works well with the flight booked by Lastminute.de
and the fare is sure ok this way, 45.00 Euro´s.
I should catch a printout on the way, what is swiftly done at the SSK´s directly in front of the security check. But wait, no entry to the gates prior to a view for the screen.
AB´s service for Olbia is running late, but DUS looks like once more ok from gate 331 scheduled on the not that really reliable Dash 8-400, at least around the AB/LGW fleet.
The latest news show also an Avanti Air ATR 72 as a subservice machine leased in swiftly
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301001_zpsf68d1e3a.jpg
Just a couple of minutes to wait at security and
BA´s place is ready for me right now
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301002_zps31d2a366.jpg
Looks like a nice day to fly around with the early morning fog above the airport
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301003_zps38cd811a.jpg
Down for the gate pretty ontime, yes they don´t need to wait for me this time!. And further on the bus around the tarmac till D-ABQF
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301004_zpscfd728ae.jpg
7.50 am, now that´s well ahead to schedule, 50 minutes to ride for DUS from runway „Zero-Seven“ on „Walter“.
3 degrees, yes, it´s spring, you know!.
Something new to the log?.
By surprise, it is!.
Leg no. 33 on type and no individual name to notice
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301005_zps643f3beb.jpg
Engine view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301006_zpsec5cb437.jpg
In the air since 20.03.2009, one of the 10 examples in the fleet and no incidents to report with the plane
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301007_zps69a8fa42.jpg
Someone remember Miss Berlin?:
"STR-DUS-CPH-AAL Just For The Anniversary" (by FLIEGER67 Jul 12 2013 in Trip Reports)
Dejavu, a nice welcome from the cabin crew, the very same like two days ago on the very same route.
The elder ex Contactair woman much more relaxed today and Miss Berlin really nice and good for a chat again.
The load is 70%, a huge group of turkish pax on a connecting flight, an orchestra like one of them told me later.
Legroom is ok here at 19F, the last row window and two for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301008_zpseceb83ee.jpg
Just a view for the modern style cabin, fitted
with the dark blue grey leather seats, clean so far
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301009_zps26d86e9b.jpg
Cockpit crew is from Germany with a female captain on duty, no comment from the first row at all and therefore no route nor flightlevel info.
Also the Dash is safe to fly!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301010_zps438e1caf.jpg
Service is a croissant and free drinks.
An engine on the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301012_zps912a2e73.jpg
Someone for Essen?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301013_zpsa0a7411c.jpg
Touchdown at the 3000 meters „Two-Three-Left“, 08.50 am and that´s 10 minutes ahead to schedule. Sunny, no clouds and 12 degrees, that´s much more spring like l know from the previous years
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301014_zps84db80ad.jpg
Sure a nice experience later on.
Me busy with the usual Tripreporter work, what means a chat with the crew and a couple of pictures on the tarmac till boarding the bus for the terminal.
A young guy comes up to me.
„Sorry, may I ask you a question?“.
„Sure“.
„I saw you taking pictures on the apron. Is it possible that you are the Tripreporter?“.
Our conversation causes also some interest by the people around.
„Well, good point, that´s me“.
„I follow all the stories, really interesting“.
We had a nice conversation later on.
There is some time in between the next flight
and we decided to hit the terrace together.
Thanx K., nice talking and good company.
It´s a small world, you know and maybe we meet again on a plane somewhere else!.

Service PC 304 operated by Pegasus Airlines
Scheduled: 13.30 // 17.45

It´s time to leave the terrace again not that long thereafter and
I should have a view for the lounge now.
But check the screen first, you know.
Ok, no news for my flight from gate C30
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301017_zpsa0428714.jpg
Non-Schengen security is busy with the pax and bags to check, well rather thousand bags and a few pax!.
The upcoming two legs are on one confirmation managed by Flugladen. de.
The fare per leg this time 55.00 Euro´s.
The PGT website shows no OLCI available ex DUS, but it´s always worth a try, isn´t it?.
It works!.
10.0 Euro´s to catch the exit window seat seems also worth it. Especially when we know that every window is cashed with 7.00 Euro´s and also the middle seats are at 4.00 Euro´s.
No extra payment means you should accept the reservation system´s favour. No, that´s nothing for me!.
Up the stairs now and both places are good for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301019_zpsb4ea2fb8.jpg
Nice offers here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301015_zps4c8cd18b.jpg
A tough decision to catch a seat!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301016_zps67261199.jpg
And the other lounge
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301018_zps7b76caad.jpg
Back for the gates and a view like this
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301020_zpsb75380ca.jpg
Yes, this looks like the scheduled 737-800
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301021_zps39e8d124.jpg
Leg no. 69 on type
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301022_zpsc908c51d.jpg
A warm welcome to „Mina“, a new entry to the log
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301023_zps9732d686.jpg
In service with Pegasus Airlines since 29.06.2010, 41 examples are in the fleet.
And also here, no incidents to report
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301024_zpsed10e1f4.jpg
Ah, now I know where all these bags are!. There is just one piece of cabin baggage allowed, but this is for sure interpretable!.
One more farewell flight story is coming up soon, if nothing goes wrong
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301025_zpsd6733f78.jpg
1.30 pm, as ontime as possible, 2.00 hours, 55 minutes to go by „Sunturk“ right now.
Departure from „Two-Three-Left“ like arrivals, 18 degrees and just a few clouds to notice.
Cockpit crew is from Turkey. „Have a nice flight“ during taxi is the only message from upfront.
Legroom is perfectly good here with the well used dark blue grey leather seats.
The aisle is taken, the middle remains open
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301026_zpscee068fa.jpg
Cabin view
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301027_zpsb53857ee.jpg
On duty around the cabin are two male FA´s, one young and nice, the other one middle aged, biz style
and two women, both middle aged, one ok, the other one nice, not that large with short black hair.
Safety on the go
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301028_zpsa32a1000.jpg
The routing is FRA-GRZ-Szeged-Timisoara-Veliko Tarnovo at maximum 37000 feet.
There is also a magazine to follow
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301029_zps38c8e8db.jpg
No free service here by PC.
What about something to eat?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301030_zpsc56e5727.jpg
That´s the way to go now
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301031_zps0fb3cd3b.jpg
An winglet up for the blue
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301032_zpsbe6aaa1b.jpg
We´re making good progress
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301033_zps6560243a.jpg
Clouds down there
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301034_zps649da9fc.jpg
Let´s call it well loaded. Very close to 100%, mostly turkish pax on the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301035_zps202fd5b5.jpg
Not that far from SAW
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301037_zps4b600b9c.jpg
Istanbul ahead
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301040_zps88bc34f5.jpg
This way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301042_zpsa38bba59.jpg
Coming closer
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301043_zpsf9495072.jpg
Touchdown at the 3000 meters „Zero-Six“, 26 degrees, sunny no clouds. That´s what I´am looking for, 4.30 pm in Germany and 5.30 pm local, 15 minutes ahead to schedule.
Heading for an airbridge
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301044_zps4e2e457e.jpg
Turkish registered tails all around
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301045_zpsd4df16ce.jpg
For a sunny welcome
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301046_zps602ddff7.jpg
And a Bye-Bye to „Mina“
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/TR1301/TR1301047_zps962c36b2.jpg
There are two hours till the next flight, so I´ve decided to enter Turkey here and walk a little bit around.
Ok, there is no choice at all, domestic connections are forced to do it this way!.

A good way to walk down for the bus gate at the groundfloor, where, as often these days, the last pax boarded the bus and I don´t lost a minute this way!. Ready for a tour around the tarmac and now I´am really speechless.

Access is only possible for pax, therefore
back for the hotel, a short night and ready for breakfast.
Did I already mention that I like turkish food?.

Service XQ 970 operated by Sun Express
Scheduled: 11.35 // 13.55

Well, someone remember my statement with the last set of schedule changes?.
Now I show you how to book a train ticket three times.
Just after fixing this leg directly via the XQ website, the fare btw. 105,00 Euro´s and original departure 3.10 pm, arrival 5.30 pm, I spot a fitting train service.
The fare perfectly good with 19.00 Euro´s on the ICE, what means do not hesitate to press the book it button, isn´t it?.
But, amateurish mistake, like noticed later. This is a connection via Frankfurt Central Station and also Mannheim with a much later arrival time at STR airport than the later departure on the direct train from FRA airport.
Ok, cancelled, newly booked and well, this time the cheapest fare is gone and I´am forced to pay 35.00 Euro´s, grim.
Till XQ contacted and showed me a much better suitable flighttime for all my needs to do in FRA. I definitely miss these irony out button!.
Self service checked, you know, but it´s nothing else really suitable available, so accepted, grim again.
What means to book the ticket for the third time, 39.00 Euro´s.
Ok, here is no. 241, the new entry at the departure airports map

Check-In is manually done.
I´ve tried to secure an exit seat online, but the system refuses. It seems I´am to late despite the seat looks like open on the seatmap.
But the really nice young woman, yes, I like Turkey and not only the turkish food!, does it anyway.
The exit window is me!.

Back at german soil, some time at immigration as usual, on the train for terminal one and the ICE long distance train station, where my direct STR bound train runs pretty ontime.
A final switch to the local train and ontime at STR airport to catch the car where it should be.

Conclusions:
1.)LGW STR-DUS: As relaxed as a Sunday morning should be.
2.)Pegasus DUS-SAW: The exit row extra fare was really worth it.
3.)Pegasus SAW-ADB: Calm and nice staff.
4.)SunExpress ADB-FRA: Smooth and comfortable made in Turkey.

Someone remember my idea to place a tent at STR airport?.
I should be back here early tomorrow morning for a full travel day on four different aircraft and airlines. A special experience this time on the first leg, when you notice during finals the full armada of fire fighters at the outermost apron position and you further observe that you and you´re plane are the stars of the show
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/A1301/A1301023_zpse30acf21.jpg
And this is especially uncongenial when you know that there is someone waiting inside the terminal for you.

Yakında görüşürüz, take care
and if you made it with me back to STR, what about a comment?.

hi Markus,

Nice report about the 2 turkish holiday airlines.
Pegasus seems to try to catch more connecting pax now as i just saw an ad in Dubai where they advertise Germany-Dubai flight via SAW.
XQ is as good and standard as usual.

Thanks a lot for sharing.
Cheers,

Hi Markus,

interesting report, Izmir looks nice. Your report reminds me of my Pegasus/Sun Express combo in 2011:

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
AB´s service for Olbia is running late, but DUS looks like once more ok from gate 331 scheduled on the not that really reliable Dash 8-400, at least around the AB/LGW fleet.
The latest news show also an Avanti Air ATR 72 as a subservice machine leased in swiftly

Will they ever solve the problems? One week ago, I flew NUE-HAM on the DOT ATR 72 which wasn't bad. Interestingly, the DH4 flight to DUS was cancelled and pax were transferred to our flight after the routing had been changed into NUE-HAM-DUS-NUE.

Pegasus offers some nice meals.

I really love to read about Turkey. So many flights there,so many remote airports, and so many great airports. Izmir airport is wonderful, and so is Ankara, too. Antalya not so... And SAW I only knew the old airport which was completely overcrowded but now they seem to have a state of the art airport. Was connecting there well signposted and straightforward? Was PC able to issue onward boarding passes? You can see the amount of flights they have and they really start to run a hub operation, with flights to Caucasus, Dubai etc...

Some nice impressions of Izmir, not only the town but the hotel looks good too and I like the modern airport. It certainly was worth paying the 10E for the exit row on PC – the legroom is pretty awful on the standard rows.

Great report. Nice to see this routing. Nice lounges. BTW love the MEA A330 model in the lounge. I have the same one

Lovely pictures from Izmir, nice to see the ATH flight on the board too

Thank you and for interesting to follow with the MEA model.

Greetings,
Markus(FLIEGER67)
