Hello again this is Trip Report NUMBER 3! THis is a long report and i have no reg numbers, sorry  Sad
Background:
Saying that im heading into my Senior year I am seeing 6 or 7 colleges this summer. The First two (American University and George Washington University) are in Washington D.C. My mother and eight year old brother accompanied me.
TUESDAY AUGUST 6th, 2002
LGA-DCA
USAirways Shuttle Flight 6855
Scheduled Departure 9:00 AM
Scheduled Boarding Time: 8:30 AM

Pre-Flight
I got up at 6:00 AM and took a shower and checked to make sure I had everything. I then went down and loaded into the cab with my mother and brother, both of who dislike airtravel. My brother is too young too care and my mom feels as if she should recive priority treatment because shes too good to be like everyone else. We got to LGA at 7:05 after leaving Rye at 6:45. I was relived to find the Whitestone free of traffic, it can be a nightmare. There were two people online ahead of us for checking, both going to Boston. I presented the E-Ticket reciet and the process went much smoother then I had anticipated. We recived 9D,E and F which is the row directly in front of the exit row. We went down to the gate and I thankfully recived no extra checks. The only difference from security of last year was they sent my pen through the X-Ray Machine. We were greated by a National Guardsman with an M-16 looking as if he wanted to shoot to kill. I went over to McDonalds to eat n' spot and I sat next to a US Captain who ignored my attempts at Convo. The last time I had been at the USAIrways terminal there has been a few ERJ's but mainly Airbuses and a few Fokkers. Now there were DHC-8s, ERJs and even Saab 340s taking over most of the Gates 1-10 pier. Flights were going to CLT-Grand Caymon, Nassau, PIT-MCO, CLT-Aruba and all kinds of little destiations in the North East and NC. I also saw a DL 762, NW 757 and UA A320.

I was the first to board and after picking up my headphones and my bag with a bagel in it, I entered the A320 cabin for the first time. The first thing i saw was 4 men talking to each other and as soon as they saw me they all quickly sat down. Now i was the first to board so I figured they were sky martials. One of them sat in 8D and he was 6'4, 350+ pounds and he made I LOVE EWR look small. The plane boarded quickly and it ended up being about two-fifths full. Rows 11 and back were completley empty. After pushing back 4 minutes early we took i belive Taxiway Y to Runway 4 and we were 4th in line. Definetly not bad for LGA at 9 AM. We were behind a UA 733, US 734 and a Delta F328 JET. We took off after a 32 second roll and headed by the Whitestone and Throggs Neck Bridge and then over the Bronx into New Jersey. The pilot only came on to annouce our flying time and to remind us we coudlnt get up the entire flight. There was a beverage service and I got the full can of AJ which made me happy ( Smile <-- see? ). What annoyed me was the radios only worked for the Fox News program and one channel looked good, anyone know why they dont let you listen to the radio?
We began our decent and from my seat I could see the Capital and giant dic errrrr Washington Monument  Big grin as well as the Naval Research Station.

We then taxied to gate 41 and deplaned.

When i was stadning at the curb waiting for my taxi, i saw the two sky martials with the two Sky Hags we had for F/a.s
From now until the dotted line, i will be talking about my trip, if you only want to read about the flying go to the dotted line
We took a cab to our Hotel (The Intercontinental-Willard) and then went to the American History Museum and to the Jefferson and FDR memorials. From the Jefferson you can see a great DCA takeoff pattern.
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 7th, 2002
I got up, ate Room Service in my suite  Big thumbs up. The best thing about the suite was i could watch tv in one room and Edward (bro) could be in the other. Such bliss. At 9 i took the Metro to American Universary and enjoyed not only the Metro ride but everything about the school. I would really love to attend there. I saw some flyovers which was very nice. I spent the rest of the day riding the Red Line from terminus to terminus and then ate dinner at a Grille.
THURSDAY AUGUST 8th, 2002
I got up and once again enjoyed the Room Service I didnt pay for Big grin. I was tired because the night before i watched a "movie" that my mother wouldnt agree with, but what she dont know, cant hurt her Big grin!. At 9:15 i once again entered the Metro and went to GWU. I was not impressed at all with this school. The dorms were terrible and my interview went very badly so i looked to hot dogs and the Metro to cheer me up. This time i took the Yellow out to DCA and got some great views of the airport. I recomend this for spotting. I went back to the hotel and once again we loaded into a cab.

We got to the airport at 3:05 and we were 4th in line for check-in. The woman offered to put us on the 4 o'clock shuttle but i put my foot down and my mom gave in so i was FREEEEEEE FOR SPOTTING!. I grabbed a smart cart and walked off down the long new terminal. I didnt see too much, 3 AA MD-80s, assorted US Airbusses, two DL MD-88s and an AWA A319 plus a CO 737. I went down to Terminal A and was very glad I did. Most of it was the same as i remember it from when i took the Eastern and Pan Am shuttles down to DCA. I also went downstairs and checked out the Operations Center. I was able to eat my Cinnabon in the same location where FDR once was. On the way back right by the pier with AA this tottaly hot girl passed me and i let go of my Smart Carte and stared at her, unfortunately she noticed and was like "yeah HI!" i kinda ran. I got back to my pier and i parked myself at Gate 43 determined to be the first one on. About 10 minutes prior to boarding, the six marshals showed up in full suits and four got on. Why do they send 6 if only 4 get on? Also, I saw a US 733 in the Old USAir scheme so i guess there not finished. It was also cool seeing Do 328s because we never get those in New York.

Because this plane was more full (Only middle seats available), they boarded rows 10 and higher first so i couldnt be #1 on board. This time there were Marshals in 5D and 3D so i was covered pretty well. We taxied on Taxiway C to Runway 1 where we waited for a Company Shuttle A319 to land before taking off. My snack bag this time contained a Ham and Cheese Sandwich, Bag of Cape Cod chips, Chocky Chip cookie and a bottle of water. The sandwhich was allright but it had onions on it. Honestly, who puts onions on a Ham and Cheese sandwich? The beverage service commensed and I got a Ginger Ale, the full can 2 in a row! I noticed that the F/A wore plastic disposable gloves when handiling the trash, why? I noticed that Canada Dry has a new can. We flew up over the Chesapeak Bay and then i didnt know where we went because once again Mr. Pilot stayed silent. We then flew over Rockaway with JFK in site and then over I-678 and landed at 5:48.

The taxi was quick and I didnt see anything unusual at LGA today.

We got off fast and the Captain actully said goodbye to us, that made me happy. The baggage facilites are nice, even though i only carryon and i was home by 6:30
Notes:
USS was allright and I'll probably fly them again. I only did this time for the Triple Miles they were offering.
Delta's livery is still mainly in the old two schemes. I only saw one non-shuttle in the Deltaflot livery.
DCA is a very nice airport that beats LGA anyday in everyway.

Delta is getting there with the painting. It is starting to look more like Deltaflot country in ATL. I don't think it will be too much longer before the old-old livery is gone.

Great Report. I doubt that the sky marshall was 350+ pounds. I would make him look small.

Hey...
I was just in Washington attending the Global Young Leaders COnference...for the DC protion we sayed at the George Washington University/Mt. Vernon Campus....the dorms were so-so (definitely NOT the Hilton!) and the food was UNFIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION--we had to live with it for 5 days and we hated it!! cant imagine living with it for FOUR YEARSS!!!
