Good day and welcome to a new story, handmade, original from the first till the last word and of course, just a few pictures!

BSL-SAW-TBS to explore a new country“

The trip in one word:

CONTRASTS

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301076_zps41eae8d1.jpg

This is the story about an attempt to visit a new country. One of these former soviet union places, where you should go better sooner than later with all the changes. Not to forget, it´s Georgia this time“.

კარგი დღე, ძვირფასო მკითხველს

what also means:

Hello, dear readers

and what´s also exactly how it feels like sometimes when you are on the way in Tbilisi with the Georgian scripture!.

It´s more than a week ago since I´ve been back at the homebase from:

„Farewell To Carpatair´s Saab 2000“ (by FLIEGER67 Aug 4 2013 in Trip Reports)

And it seems that it´s, especially during this late spring season, enough to go for somewhere else like this:

Great thanx to:

What about painting some more lines on the Tripreporter 2013 file?.
Sure!:

What about something new on the departure airports map?.
Sure, but not with this part of the trip!:

And what about to stay with the previous 200 departure places?.
Definitely!:

Service PC 626 operated by Pegasus Airlines
Scheduled: 14.05 // 17.55

I´am on duty for a shuttle service to Basel airport today.
For sure a good excuse not to drive back to the homebase again, no, park the car there and fly somewhere else.
Somewhere else sounds good, isn´t it?.
But it´s not that easy to catch something interesting from the first view with the earliest possible departure time for me at around 2.00 pm.
But these offer sounds good to me from the second view.
Two flights today or better said also tonight on one confirmation powered by Fly.de this time.
The fare per leg is 80.00 Euro´s,
what seems worth it with my destination.
Interesting pricing also with the exit row seats prior to Check-In,
20.00 Euro´s for the first leg and 17.00 Euro´s for the second.
It´s the whitsun weekend and school holiday time for the next two weeks, but the roads are not more crowded than standard through the black forrest and so
we arrived as expected. Much more difficult work is to catch a parking space with the usual places show complete, mostly German and Swiss plates of course, but finally I found something acceptable at F6. It´s ok for the car, a walk back for the terminal and with the nice and sunny weather conditions, there should be a view from the terrace necessary.
No need to Check-In, OLCI works again also when BSL is not on the OLCI airports list, but you know, a test is always worth it.
If I ever buy a watch, I prefer the Breitling way!

HOP in HOP colours, not to me till now and more Super Connie

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301003_zps9474ab7e.jpg
No one to be seen at the french security check, but a long line at the swiss part, caused by Easyjet, so it seems.
No lounge to go with Pegasus or Diners and good for a couple more pictures.
This is a well known german sign
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301005_zps4485126f.jpg
SAW looks like ok and
I should fly MAU somedays,
it sounds so funny or maybe also the ICE?

Precious freight on the go
but something else is coming in before

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301014_zpsb088d7b0.jpg
The usual bunch, nothing else expected, of nervous non frequent flying people around the gate, just interesting to follow.
„Hanim“ is the scheduled 737-800 and yes, it belong´s to Pegasus Airlines

Not that I´ve been under the wing of a plane sometimes before!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301019_zpsbae1e191.jpg
The first flight is recorded at 29.01.2008 and there are 41 examples in the fleet.
„Hanim“ stories?. Sure!:

http://avherald.com/h?article=44936c62&opt=0
Well, I´am usually looking forward to the red light at the boarding gate
when there is a biz cabin on the plane. But this time there is definitely no biz to see, but the red light stops me anyway from boarding the plane as one of the last pax.
Reseated to 16C, no this is definitely not my choice without a proper explanation by the gate staff. Nevertheless done the usual Tripreporter picture work and up the stairs to talk to a younger nice male FA.
Wait a minute, is his response.
All windows are taken in the exit rows, no, all seats are taken in the exit rows. But row 3 A/B/C is open for me and when I see the close to 100% load and lot´s of families with kids around, accepted.
There is a middle aged woman also on duty, short red hair, well built, but somewhat cold.
Another middle aged woman, black hair, cute and nice
and also a middle aged ok style male FA.
Cockpit crew is from Turkey, the have a nice flight message is to hear at the runway entrance and short after departure some more informations inflight.
2.10 pm, close to ontime, 2.00 hours, 35 minutes by „Sunturk“ now from the 3900 meters runway „One-Five“. 20 degrees and a few clouds only.
Basel departures heading usually in direction west, something new for me now

What about a view for the screen prior to enter the gate area again?.
Biskek, Beyrut, Bakü, welcome
and also Tbilisi from gate 201B

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301054_zpsb0fcc193.jpg
No time to wait at security here in the evening and also not a minute at passport check.
It seems nothing out of the ordinary for the officer to see a german passport flying out from Turkey to Georgia.
Some lounging prior to the nightflight feels good, isn´t it?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301058_zpsa628d59d.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301057_zpsb1be166a.jpg
And the LGM lounge is for sure a recommendable place

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301055_zps06417c2d.jpg
For the gate with a good time limit prior to boarding.
This one for me?

Pretty difficult to catch the registration.
But this is TC-ADP „Nisa Nur“,
new to the log and leg no. 73 on type. With Pegasus since 24.01.2011, another one of the 41 examples. Nothing special to report with „Nisa Nur“

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301066_zps5fc227a0.jpg
11.50 pm, just a few minutes late, 1.00 hours, 50 minutes only by „Sunturk“ from „Zero-Six“, the same runway like arrivals in the other direction.
Perfectly clear sky and 24 degrees.
Cockpit crew is from Turkey, the captain with a nice welcome during taxi and the have a nice flight message. Later once again in a nice style close to TBS.
Routing is via Samsun and Batumi at maximum 35000 feet.
Perfect legroom here at 16A, also when there are all three seats taken, well it´s the exit row with the dark blue leather equipment and the clean so far cabin.
The load is very close to 100% again and just to my surprise, I´am not the only one on the way from BSL to TBS

Cabin crew is one young and nice male,
one middle aged cute woman, black hair tough style, I´am the boss here, you know!.
Another middle aged and ok woman and also a middle aged blonde and nice woman.
No free service here again.
Just a view for the cabin and the screens with our progress to follow

Touchdown at the 3000 meters „Three-One-Left“, 02.50 am, perfectly ontime and for sure a strange part of the day to enter a new country. 18 degrees and clear sky again.
Welcome to Georgia

With the armada of busses and what you expect else around the tarmac

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301086_zpse4a31ce7.jpg
Just a couple of minutes till a young woman, ok it´s immigration but she is nice,
stamped my passport with a new sign.
Invested some Euro money in Investbank and also a couple of seconds later there are these exotic Lari´s in my pocket.
It´s pretty early in the morning, public transport options are limited, to say the least.
Therefore I´ve decided to stay in contact with the hotel, what I usually do anyway and ask for a transfer.
It works, an elder guy with a private black Daimler limousine picked me up and if there are not the also black cars in front and behind missing, it feels like an official convoy racing, yes I mean racing, down the empty nightly roads.
Puh, safely arrived at the hotel Anata in between the airport and the city and also not far from a metro station

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301088_zpsc8c9b386.jpg
Call it a short night
and ready for breakfast.
Where the elder woman on duty doesn´t speak a single word of english and I had a tough, but nevertheless nice time to explain that I don´t need eggs, bacon or something like this for breakfast. Supported by a young couple also on breakfast during the same time like me.
That´s perfectly ok for me. Sure?. Sure!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301090_zps29b1a6c7.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GRO06/GE1301091_zps504dfc11.jpg
The young couple, from Kiev like it later turns out, are the only other guests for breakfast this time. We had a nice chat together about the reasons to visit Tbilisi on the balcony. From where we have also a surrealistic experience soon thereafter when a car, remember the race last night, down at the main road collided with a concrete barrier, jumped around and overturns several times.
It´s better to take care close to the road, definitely

Well, with my limited georgian knowledge, especially with the words written not in western letters, it wasn´t that easy to locate the subway station in the suburb nearby, Isani, but finally it works.
And for sure, there are no other western travellers at all around.

Hello FLIEGER67,

Good to see some writing action again from your side with this trip to the Georgian capital. Pegasus seems to have delivered you in good spirits. SAW seems to be a bit of a hub for the airline. I remember some time ago while looking for fares to DXB, they offered by far the cheapest connection via SAW but with horrible timings.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
I should fly MAU somedays

You should and I’m confident you will   Is that some kind of 5th freedom flight?

Hello Mr Felger.

Interesting report from a little covered countrie around here, looks very interesting to visit, is it easy to get around in spite of the obvious language and alphabet barrier?

I visited SAW in 2010 via Spanair from BCN, very brief, took the coach to Istambul which should have taken about 45 minutes, ended up being 2:30 amidst some very crazy traffic.

Quoting Sultanils (Reply 3):

I think it´s just an AirFrance flight and MAU codeshares on it.

I think, therefore I don´t fly Ryanair.

Servus Markus,

interesting choice of destination, Tbilisi looks quite interesting. Pegasus isn't an overly exciting carrier - but at least they name their planes and offer nice premium meals. I had a great breakfest on my flight between ADA and SAW some years ago:

You've sold me! I'm not sure how likely it is that I will be able to go, at least not in the foreseeable future, but you pictures and commentary make it look such a wonderful and unique destination. I will be sure to keep it in mind.

Hi Markus,

thanks so much for sharing your trip to Georgia. I have been there two years or so ago. It was a very random flight with Estonian from HAJ to TLL and then onward to TBS.
I'll going back end of this months. TK has these ultracheap flights to TBS from FRA and AND OLD: Munich - Riem (MUC / EDDM) (closed), Germany">MUC at around 169 EUR return via their SAW "hub". Competition is usually rather the double, including Pegasus by the way...

Everytime I was in SAW security AND passport control was a madhouse, but maybe I was unlucky. Same with the lounge which to be honest did not impress me at all.

Did you had food in Georgia? The food there is fantastic. Alone because of that I can't wait to travel again. Otherwise your pictures clearly show the contrasts. You can be on a superb boulevard, next to hypermodern buildings, and you walk 2 minutes in the back street it's a dirt street with wonderful old houses falling apart.

Exactly and I really love the food and the country/city at all, well described!.

Greetings,
