How could I began ok well here a little report
of my recent vacation. (Sorry I haven't succeed catching all
the aircraft registration numbers)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I guess I was thinking
about my girlfriend and not about running to the window to
catch them  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

So here I was on this first day of my 2 weeks and 2 days vacation
in Asia.. where I would get to see my singapore friends, then rush
to Bangkok for a 3 days stay then going in the south of Thailand
by Train for 12h to Koh Samui Island... then back in Bangkok for
1 night and back in Singapore to then take a bus to Pahang in
Malaysia and then back in Singapore to leave back home on August 17th.

Sorry for my english mispelling  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Air Canada Flight #111
YUL-YVR
(5h25min) in a 767-200
Seat: 12A (First Row, window seat left).

I arrived early as usual to the airport
to realise that even tough I was something
like 2h45 in advance they had a huge line
waiting... then I woke up and said let's
try the aircanada early checkin computers.

As I already reserved in advance my seat
I didn't care so I went there and it's
very convenient!!... enter all the relevent
information and then I could use the
express line which was empty... for thoses
of us having theses yellow boarding pass
Smile/happy/getting dizzy and passing in front of the other line
so I prepared my best smile for all theses
passengers..  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

When I checked early on the internet about
what type of aircraft I was sad to see that
my aircraft was not one of the EX-CP 767-300
jet but I managed to book seat 12A some
people might like that some other dont but
I liked to be in front

So I checkin my luggage also which was kinda
big and I was happy to realized that I only
had to picked up at my final destination
which was in Singapore...

The lady who served me seemed unhappy to
see me I think she had not wake up yet  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
but I tough of my lady waiting for me
and I relaxed and didn't made any scenes..  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I was 2 hours in advance so I had a lovely
coffee with my parents looking at light
coming up on the front runway with the
usual poor view at
Montreal Dorval Airport.

Everything was relaxed as it was a domestic
flight...and as opposed to some other countries,
we dont have to go thru custom when we go out
of our Country.

So I passed the Faa/aif checkpoint,
Security check point... and walked toward
my gate with this time was almost at
the end near that very expensive coffee shop
in the terminal..

so I was happy to see that my flight was
on time... (compared to the cancelled flight
the day before that I watched carefully to
see if it would happened regulary).

during the flight, I was looking out the windows
and I was watching another airplane who seem
go toward West also using the same route but
at a lower altitude.. so I was hoping that
the crew was aware I guess they were eh  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
anyway I arrived right on time in Vancouver.

then I discover the international portion of
the airport and it's lovely but was very
very crowded but it felt good kinda a little
introduction to asia already.. I felt good
earing the hanyu dialect everywhere... and
it reminded me to not forget later-on to
go again for my second course  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

anyway... I had to pass time in Vancouver airport
so I walked all the way to the extremity of
the international terminal... and I had to eat
something so I eated burger king... coz the
other food place where too much crowded  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
I didn't felt like pushing myself into this
yet  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

so I think I visited all the duty free boutique..
I was wondering around my closed gate which was
used by a japan airline flight to mexico...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
so I just sat down and felt good it's a beautiful
and big airport but at the same time not as full
of fastfood as the big airport from the land
of the hamburger  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ok now the good part  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Thursday August 1st 2002
3:00 pm
Singapore Airlines Flight 17
YVR-ICN-SIN
10h40min to Seoul
and
6h15min from Seoul to Singapore..
Airbus 340-300
Seat: 33K window seat right side

I was the first in the empty room waiting for my
airbus to arrive... until 2 weeks before I went
on this vacation it was written everywhere that
my flight would be a boeing 777-200ER one of theses
beautiful jubilee... but in a way I felt good
to see 4 reactors... coz in case of one engine stopping
the airplane could still reach destination and
I didn't had time to waste coz I only had 2 weeks
off with my girlfriend...
Also preferred the airbus for one small other reason
the seat configuration 2-4-2 .. so of coz I was in the
two seat side  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

so I was happy to try again the good service
from Asia  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I say that coz I flew on several
airlines before such as :
SQ:EWR-AMS-SIN-KUL,JFK-FRA-SIN,SIN-CDG,MAN-ZRH-SIN
MH:KUL-Langkawi,Johor,etc...
CX:SIN-HKG-YYZ  Smile-) SO i know what is a long flight  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
anyway to say something long short... I was
happy to see again efficiency, on time service,
nice people...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy so I went to the lady at the
desk after making sure she had started taking request
from passengers... (my way of respecting her work)
anyway... and I said that I would like to make
sure everything was ok... she said yes hold on
let me verify this.. I could see she was Korean
and she verified that everything was perfect...
I asked her to make sure my luggage was following
me... and she said.. good that you come coz
it was not attached to the SQ reservation..
as a computer guy, I tried to invest my trust
into the computer to make sure things would
be fine  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
so she fixed all this with a lovely smile and
we saw at the same time the lovely Celestar Bird
coming down on Vancouver...

We at the same time saw all the SQ ground crew
getting moving all around, to make sure everything
was perfect for the arrival... etc..etc...

My seat assignment was 33K like 2 rows behind
the first row... window seat right side..
I was relaxed inside the cabin... at my seat
and was very happy to see that I was seeting
next to a very nice Canadian-pakistani lady
doctor going to Karachi to visit her parents..
we had nice discussion... exchanging on culture
difference.. and enjoying the meal... yum yum

Talking about meal if I remember correctly
It was either Chicken or beef  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Im joking
but it was lovely, big portion, and given
with extra attention (As always)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy and
we received desert.. a lovely ice cream pot  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
and lots and lots of juice, juice refill, coffee
chinese tea... everything we needed...

About the flight itself I think I could say
that it was a nice flight... relax, a bit bumpy
for a while but nice in general... I remember
we had a good experienced indian captain
with a good 1st or 2nd officer (dont know
the exact term) I guess chinese ...
anyway I have to say that .. sorry if
any captain reconize themself but as all
know here on airliner.. when we get to
travel a lot and read a lot airliners
we more and more get suspision if something
goes wrong but that next thing that happened
I guess anyone who played FS2002 would have
felt his saliva going down for a second ...
we saw before making the final approach the captain going
thru the airplane just one time I guess to
checkout that everything is going well and
thank the crew at the back or something...
anyway..when we arrived in Incheon airport.
it was very cloudy... and after the captain
crossed back to his cabin for landing procedure
I guessed that he gave the airplane to
the computer or the 1st officer... I guessed
to give him more air time I guess ... anyway
as we went to the cloud going down... I could
understand that the ceiling was low... and it
was a bit windy... so the captain was making
final announcment on the intercom.. saying
that the temperature is 18celcius or something
like that... and I could feel that they were
on the very last part of the approach... and
since we were at too high altitude the plane
had to go down a little bit quicker than
normaly but that I felt was perfectly normal
since we where approching very very quickly
the airport...so they had to put the nose
of the aircraft a little bit down to make it go
down I guess  Smile/happy/getting dizzyanyway and
that since the indian captain was speaking on
the microphone.. the 1st officer was handling
the aircraft.. and I could feel that it was
a manual landing... cannot explain how but
I just guessed... anyway.. as the captain
finished the description of the temperature
and thanking people for choosing SQ the plane
was still in a front nose down position
the captain quickly said in a hurry tone...
"pull the stick pull the stick" ... then
intercom stopped...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy hehe
for me I look at this as a incident that
happened here and there and that is part
of the life of the crew... but I was lost
my breath for a while and I felt the captain
giving quick last minute correction to the
airbus.. and I was hoping the joystick was
working well on that day..  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
anyway... was suprised... but once on the
ground everything was fine..
but still I didn't like the manual approach  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
as for the service again... it was perfect..
the hot towel.. so refreshing...

so in Incheon... it was so nice modern airport
with free internet kiosks...very efficient transit..
making us go in front of the duty free shop...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
anyway.. I tried my luck again for my mobile...
and my credit card in the pay phone.. without any luck
just like in the old airport...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
then.. I was back in the airbus 340-300.. hoping
it had cool down... coz I realized that this airbus
just made 17hours flight from Singapore to Vancouver
and then another 17hours back to Singapore  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
anyway... flight was very good back to Singapore..
was good to get a new crew... I guessed that they
felt good coming back home... even me I feel good
arriving in Singapore as a tourist.. I could felt their
homeland feeling for them  Smile/happy/getting dizzy....

Awww at last Im back in Singapore..
I had chance to meet my friends there
with whom I worked with before...
and chance to go to this lovely
inter-continental japanese restaurant
to eat sashimi yum yum and with a nice
view of singapore...

of coz with girlfriend had to shop
around but I felt too good and
enjoyed singapore ...but
as soon as slept a little bit
to recover from this long flight
we were on our way on sunday morning
to Changi airport after having
a lovely indian bread breakfast
yummy yummy with this super strong+
carnation milk + sweet coffee  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Im sure singaporean know what Im
talking about it's super good  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

so as I said I was already on
my way to Changi to catch our flight
to Bangkok with Swiss air md11
as a canadian, I remember clearly
the accident that happened on our
east coast in 1998 I think....
so I put my hands in the captain...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Sunday August 4th 2002
Morning
Swiss Air LX 183
SIN-BKK
2h time
Mcdonnell MD11
Seat: 28H,J window seat right side

Well this will be shorter coz as you
know it's a short flight... as a
non aviation person I realized that
inside all the stewardess where men...
which was ok with me I have no problem
with that but then I saw majority of them
wearing this earing ... I said huh...
I guess it's what Im thinking  Smile/happy/getting dizzy hehe
but anyway... take off was powerfull
much more than airbus and any boeing I
took before.. I felt the md11 force
and climbing very fast to the regular
cruising altitude... service was quick
but no tv.. and as you know after SQ/MH/CX
well hehe I guess I had to read magazine
haaa.. here I go I read magazines...
... past quite fast.... so the approach at
bangkok was smooth but it was fun to see
the big circle that aircraft take to
go down... and you see all the other
planes in lines in the sky.. quite nice
at night.. if it's clear...
So here we where in Bangkok
the land of smiles...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I will cut the thailand visit short
but it was beautiful, nice, cheap,
tuktuk where fun I fall into this
tourist trap like everyone.. we
asked the chinese district by even
specifying the street name in thai
(it help to travel with asian friends)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
but we made the mistake to say :
we want to go there to eat seafood..
so here we go we were doing a lonnngg
lonngg ride in tuktuk and in smelly
gaz... 4 persons in one tuktuk..
and lets just say at some point
we ask to stop and we didn't pay the guy  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

that's it for thailand
Smile/happy/getting dizzy okok we also went by train 12h
to koh samui.. and back in bangkok
to catch this next flight back to Singapore...
Ohhh I almost forget if you go to
Bangkok and need a good hotel
not too expensive but not too cheap
with breakfast included well
we stayed at the sol twin tower
it's right beside the main
train station, and very
near the minirail.. and
the breakfast they have a lot
of variety... and we went
to this chinese food restaurant..
Dim Sum buffet.. from a
hongkong chief !!! let's just
say the hongkong chief was
happy to see my cantonese
friends  Smile/happy/getting dizzy and I think I never
tasted as good dim sum before,
the suckling pig yummm yumm hehe
etc.. etc  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Monday August 12th 2002
afternoon  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Swiss Air LX 182
BKK-SIN
2h time
Mcdonnell MD11
Seat: 32H,J window seat right side

Well really nothing to said  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
terminal was beautiful in Bangkok
our plane was late, agent were
helpfull, flight was smoother than
the previous one  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
speed and thrust was as much as
before  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
looked another show showing
crazy european parties...
We touched down very nicely in Changi
airport...my friends stopped at
the duty free before picking up
our luggages... and here we were back
in Singapore...

----.... well we went by bus to Malaysia...
then genting...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy play a little bit
watch russia on ice  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
----
and back in Singapore  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
for my return :-(

Saturday August 17th 2002
10:45am
Singapore Airlines Flight 18
SIN-ICN-YVR
6h00min from Singapore to Seoul
and
10h00min from seoul to Vancouver
Airbus 340-300
Seat: 34A window seat left side

Well we where early me and my girlfriend
to Changi airport.. to have a little coffee
and watch the planes going up and down...
we noticed that in Changi.. Boeing 747 and 777
where taking off very fast on the runway...
but airbus.. took a very very long time to
take off... I dunno if I guessed right but
I guessed that airbus was more economic
on the fuel... (well I hoped) hehe
so I guess less power less quickly....

anyway I check-ed in and felt so good
to received the good service with smile
from a lovely indian clerk... and it was
done very nicely... and efficently...
as always  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I was happy coz she printed
also my aircanada flight on new Singapore
airline ticket... very nice  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
so after only having 1h left before take off
I went to security.. and toward the gate...
and It was a bit crowded...

Things went quite nicely..as always...
so I hope in the flight.. stewardess always
helpfull as always... I was seating again
the the two seats side... and I was seating
with an old english canadian guy who
was keeping his coat on for the whole 17h flights
Smile/happy/getting dizzy and lets just say I felt really sad
for the stewardess when he took off his shoes
and he told me he was coming from an australia
trip and that he was looking forward to
arrive in Edmonton to do his laundry...
heuuuuuuuuuuu I felt really really sad
for the stewardess and felt really bad
thinking that stewardess could think that
maybe it was me... anyway.. to say
a long thing short...
it was a lonnnnnggg flight  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
hehe the man was very nice but he smell terrible..
so terrible I think at somepoint
some stewardness pass when he was sleeping
with shoes off (yurk...) and spray some parfum
without us seeing anything ... coz suddenly
it smell good  Smile/happy/getting dizzy hehe

beside that I was a bit sad to see
that the movies where the same
of coz, because still in august right
Smile/happy/getting dizzy ... so I watched all the shoes...
in mandarin... and played a lot of games
I didn't want to sleep so that I can
get less jet lag on my way back...

food was delicious as always...
but I wanted something different so
I asked if I could get the indian
selection kinda indian vegetarian
and for people who never went in
asia they wouldn't have love it
but I could appreciate this vegetarian
selection.. it was very good.. spicy..
and we received again a pot of ice cream
so lucky we are  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

anyway near the end of the flight
one old lady was having difficulty to
breath.. so the green stewardess on the
Sin-ICN leg was very very helpfull
without being too nervous she was very
calm like she done that everyday
and she didn't try to disrupt other
passenger and at the same time showed
a new stewardess how to help
with the oxygen bottle and mask.. ..
really lots of tumbs up for this lady
 Smile/happy/getting dizzy

after Seoul with this time a regular approach..
we got the same indian pilot and chinese
copilot than the trip where I told you
about the message the captain said on intercom
if you didn't read that go back and read  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
anyway.. it was a lovely flight..

Saturday August 17th 2002
4:30 pm
Air Canada Flight #1118
YVR-YUL
(4h25min) in a Airbus 320
Seat: 12A (First Row, window seat left).

After going thru the messy transit and
going thru custom.. and reboarding luggage...
(thank god SQ booked my luggage all the way
to montreal so I didn't have to wait I put
it directly on a luggage belt... )
so after that I was waiting at the gate...

Boarding was fine.. flight was full full
like all my previous ones...

Well flight was long I was tired of behing in the
aircraft.. I was missing my girlfriend..
so I slept ..
didn't want to watch the movie
coz I watched it in Singapore airline flight  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
hehe

Well that's about it...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Again sorry for all english mistakes
and my non-aviation approach to the stories  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
but I really love watching aircraft at all
airport...

Can't wait for my next trip in Asia  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Salut Nicolas,

Parlez vous Chinnoise? I noticed you mention about a "Hanyu" dialect. Since you were in Vancouver, you probably heard more Cantonese than any other chinese dialect!

Glad u had a good flight with SQ and i will be the same Swiss flight tomorrow evening! Yippee... can't wait. A trip report will surely follow. When I last flew Swissair in 96, I noticed the earrings on the stewards as well...

How did Air Canada compare to the rest of your flights? You didn't mention much about Swiss either.

Cheers
Ryan

Hello well Hanyu dialect in vancouver ... it's because they had lot of people gathering near the chinese food kios before boarding for their airchina flight... and singapore airline flight ... (inside the international terminal)...

As for the swiss flight.. well it was short,
I wanted it to be quick ... after passing 5h+10h+6h 2 days before I wanted
less to take the flight and it was very messy at security point in changi before
boarding the plane...

Well I think it was OK-lah  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Im 6 feet tall but I dunno, I guessed I walked 2 to 3 times here and there
whenever I got the chance to  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I was cramp on the way back with this fellow canadian guy
who smelled funny... he was taking all the arm rests on both
side and lets say he was taking all space :-P

As long as you move your legs (well you try to follow theses exercices that they show on the screens) and that you take one aspirin pill (help blood to circulate) .. well you should be fine ...

Would Love SIA to begin a non-stop
service with their new Airbus 340-500 between
Singapore and Toronto or Montreal ...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

or maybe AirCanada will use their new Airbus 340-500
between Toronto and Hongkong (direct) or even further down  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
