Finally, it's time to FLY!
We(dad&I) got to the airport at 8.00, approximately 2 hours before the scheduled departure. After saying the"GoodbyeS", we passed through the security checkpoint & checked-in.
After getting in, of course we had to take a look at the duty free shop, but nothing was worth buying Sad
At about 9.15 the gate was open & we were ready to board!
We pushed back at 9.40 & by the time we were lined up on the new runway it was 9.50. Monitoring the falps & every movement on the wing(window seat of course) we rolled down the runway,& I gotta tell you, eventhough the A321 seems small,(comparing to 767,330..) it rolled really fast:D
Up we are & heading to London.Service started with some pretzels &drinks, later on lunch was served.
While eating, looking out the window, watching the magnificent views over Cyprus,Turkey& parts of eastern Europe, I found time to watch "That 70's Show"  Big thumbs up
After being in the air for about 4 hours, we started our descent towards LHR, passed over the English Channel, made some turns& soon we were approaching 27R.As I had a window seat on the left hand side,I got the chance to see the BA maintenance hangars&some concordes!!
While taxxing to the parking position(not terminal or gate), I was really amazed how huge this airport is & the loads of heavy birds in it 9-p
We waited about 15mins to have the parking position cleared. The shuttles were ready to give us a ride to T4!!
It was about 12.50 when we got in T4, so we had an hour left before heading to washington.
We toured the terminal & a few of the shops, but we didn't have enough time because the bording procedure started at 13.20

Airline:British Airways
Flight#:BA223
Depart(LHR):13.50
Arrive(IAD):16.50
Aircraft:B747-400(G-BNLV)

For the first time in my life, I got the registration number stuck in my head,& it was even easier because of the "Waves of the city"scheme.
Anyway,we got in the plane & figured out that the seats assignment were not next to each other, so we had to wait about 10mins to switch with someone else,&this was made easy with the help of the lovely crew  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Our departure was late by 45mins or an hour late. This time I had no window seat  Crying so I had no idea when we were gonna feel the plane roll down the runway, but I found it exciting because you're just sitting,& suddenly you speed on the runway  Smokin cool
We're flying&heading to Washington. As soon as the seatbelt lights were switched off, service started...etc...But there's one thing about the BA service, they like spend most of the flight time serving drinks&crackers... or whatever, their service is just great Big thumbs up
I took my shoes off & wore the socks(BA special socks  Smile ) & try to get some sleep, but infortunately I couldn't  Sad
I don't know how the 7hour flight time ended because I didn't even tough the PTV(to be honest, I might've checked the PTV to track the flight only  Innocent ), eventhough, it seems that it passed by really fast.
After 7hours crossing the atlantic&flying along with the east coast, we started our descent towards IAD(Dulles) & soon we were on the ground, once again in a surprising way, we just felt it touch down because I had no window seat.

I think that's about it, hope you enjoyed reading this report, stay tuned for the
Return Flight report!
Cheers

Nice trip report, thank you!

BEY is your home airport, but I don't know anything about this airport. What about security for BA flights there? Even stricter than at other airports, I guess? Was the flight BEY-LHR full?

Hey Ndebele,

Yes, BEY is my home airport,&about the security, there's a security screener before entering the check-in counters area, then another one upon entering the terminal hall, but it isn't that strict, doesn't mean that it's not safe!!
And the flight was FULL, not even an empty seat, I guess because it's a connecting flight, the main route is Damascus-London, but VIA Beirut, this should be the main reason.
Regards...

Hey Arsenal@LHR,

I meant by the word loads, the big number of planes around the airport, it really is amazing,I mean I've flown twice BEY-IAD via Paris, but I wasn't impressed as much as I was when I stopped by LHR, it's a really nice&busy airport Big thumbs up
Hope you got my idea, if not, tell me again, no prblem  Smile

Nice report. What classes and seats were you in? Also, a little constructive criticism, just a little less on the faces next time?

Arsenal@LHR,

You don't want to know what it was like on that flight!!!!
I can't believe that BA operates 4 flights daily(guess so) to IAD,they fly 3 744s&one 772, so the route must be really active, in addition to the UA flights..
Briefly,There was no single seat EMPTY!

Cmk10: I was a bit excited writing this report, sorry for the sum of faces  Insane

OK thanks for that...not really suprising, a lot of BA north atlantic flights are full throughout a large portion of the year.
