Sorry for the delay in posting this report , it has been over a month now ...
anyways , after spending an amazing one month in Dubai , it was time to head back to england .  Sad

ROYAL BRUNIE AIRLINES
BI 097
DXB-LHR (DUBAI TO LONDON HEATHROW)
30TH OF AUGUST , 2002
GATE 8
BOARDING TIME 0115
SCH DEPT TIME 0155
arrival 0615
ACTUAL DEPT. TIME 0230
SEAT NUMBER 14A
Buisness CLASS (upgraded)
ACFT TYPE : B767-300ER

I arrived into Dubai airport 3 hours before dept (10:30)
and made my way thru the terminal . the airport was UNBELIEVABLY CROWDED !
There flights coming from everywhere , and going to everywhere !
BA ,CX , Royal jordanian , GF, QR, AF, LH, royal air moroc, uzbakistan airways, Libyan airways, the NEW swiss airlines , THAI international , Syrian arab airlines , Royal Brunie , Loads of EK's going to Australia and fareast and ofcourse , Biman , PIA , and AI and sudan airways, and Czech Airlines and turkish airways , and royal jordanian.
and much more ..
Amazingly , the only flight that was abit delayed was Vietnam airlines coming from CDG (25 mins only)
Made my way thru security , and finally found the counters , which were next to Kenya airways to Nairobi (what a mess!)
i had previously booked a marhaba service with is about 12$ , where a women comes and takes your luggage , checks it in , take you to the Marhaba lounge and use the fast track immigration service.
Checking in was fairly quick , and had excess luggage but all went thru .got my boarding passes , and found out that i was upgraded to Biz class !in about 15 mins , i was doing some shopping at the duty free got a few CDs , magazines , food etc...
after that , went to the marhaba lounge , where i notices the flight swiss airlines to zurich was boarding , next to the British airways , to LHR , (final call). ironically , KHI747 was on the swiss flight to zurich.
the marhaba (which means greetings and welcome in arabic) was excellent !!there was an open buffet with loads of drinks , beds, a very nice arabian theme, and i massive 55 inch plasma screen where they were showing matrix.
after calling a few friends , speaking to my aunt in new zealand , and using free email and internet , said good bye to the staff and ran to gate 8
Then headed to gate16 to catch the glimpse of the new airfrance B777-200 , which looked stunning ! AF ground staff seemed efficient but slightly confused ( espc. the cabin crew) ...
announcements kept on comming , on final calls , gate change and late passengers.
Dubai airport was extremely croweded ! I have never seen soo many people in my life before ! i was really cool seeing people from china, japan , vietnam , australia and ofcourse , brits , and loads of german and french tourists.
Went to the plane and got greeted by a depressing ground staff.- security was very tight -i got checked twice .
the flight was 100% full in all thre classes , loads of australians and far easterns
the plane that came in from Bader was late , so the flight was slightly delayed because of saftey checks and cleanliness etc...
Next to us , was a veitnam (b767) to CDG (amazing livery) and cathy pacific B777-300, then i saw a sudan airways A300 trying to prak somewhere and an AI A310 standing still
I reckon all the jetways were in use at the period of the day ...
The plane looked very old , and no ptv's but very friendly FA's (who called me by my first name! - WOOHOO!), as we pushed back ,a turkish airways B737 parked using the same jetway.
the royal jordanian A310 was infront of us , and a Gulf air B767 was behind us .
as we waited to take off , i saw a JAS A300 cargo followed by a KLM B747 cargo . and an AF 747 cargo , plus loads of Private planes and random russian planes , old B707's parked at the maintance.
Cabin lights were dimmed , and "boiling towels" were handed out .Take off was smooth , and very graceful , Dubai looked beautiful at night , and very live ! even at 2:30 .... we then headed towords the arabian gulf . The TV programs commmenced , with elevator music and the captain started rambling on and appologising about the delay and how he will try to make up for it ) ,
i then fell asleep as they came with a hot meal (i was too full to have anything!)

woke up 4 hours later , and breakfast was being served , with cornflakes as for starters , then fruit salad , then a choice of steak and potatoes , chicken ommlette and some other thing (sorry forgot)fruits , bread, croissants , jam , yoghurt , tea or coffee.
after reading the inflight magazine . The radio was quit good though , the quality was abit unclear .
the inflight movie was lame- so i didnt bother looking except for the maps and flight data.

The sun started to appear from my window , it was breathtaking , we soon arrived into LHR at 0635 in the morning (earlier than excpected)- had to wait for ages before landing as usual - could see laods of planes circling with us , including UA 777 and a BMI A320 .Landing was quite smooth . saw big ben and the millenium dome before landing.
when landing , saw the concorde at the maintanince hanger , plus loads of AC , AF LH , alitalia, UA ,AA and BA's and Qatar A330 (for the first time)
plus , also saw El-AL 747 parked in the corner next to BI A340 (VIP) and Virgin B747's

very uneventful flight which was alright i suppose- excellent FA's (the best ive ever encountered)
baggage claim was a problem , had to wait 30 mins because of some technical reason , untill they unloaded the luggage.
left terminal 3 , which was a mess !! loads of missed luggage , most flights were from north amercia
sorry about the spelling and delay,
regards,
Ahmed

Hey Ahmed..Ahlan ahlan..let me be the first to reply to your interesting post.Yes i was there that same day on that SWISS A332 to ZRH.....looked great in the new liverry..interestingly, as i mentioned in my report, for the first time we(all pax originating in KHI) were not allowed to deplane in DXB that day...our flight was a bit delayed that day and the fact that DXB was so conjested that night as you mentioned...i wish man we could have met that day at DXB...

Nice report. Why do a lot of tourists come to Dubai? Is there a lot to do there?

Nice report.

It seems that there is a big difference in the BI F/A's attitude towards Business Class passengers and Economy Class passengers. In the back of the plane, they did not even bother to smile, from my recent experience with them (HKG-BWN rtn)!! They were very cold. Efficient though.

By the way, did you enjoy their food? How would you rate it?

Very good report!

I had no idea Dubai Airport was so busy at night.

What were the business class seats like (pitch, material, comfort)? Did they provide menus?

Cheers

You were on V8-RBG and you landed at 06:30 local time on 27R, then parked on J6A.

Great report!! Made for some great reading. I am forever longing to make my long awaited trip back to my birthplace that is Dubai (lived there for 9 years, haven't been since 1989!!!). This year will have to wait, maybe next year (last year of uni). If not, definatley in 2004. Can't wait to see how much it has changed  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ryanair!!!, I think he was mean to say Bandar Seri Begawan, I too suffer from those damn spelling mistakes!! I guess my typing is not up to scratch!

DL Widget Head Only if you replaced all the EK planes with BA ones, you would feel you are in LHR...thats how busy and international DXB is at night..it is a spotters dream trust me not because of the queues of planes to land and take off.....but the sheer variety you see there from BA to Aeroflot to Korean Air is just amazing...
Someone else asked if there are alot of tourists in DXB, well not only has Dubai developed into a major tourist hotspot...it is where hundreds of thousands of well paid expats also live. There is just about everything to do in DXB..from the best hotels to humungous american style Malls to NightClubs
