I took this trip 2 years ago at Christmas time. My cousins live in a place called Port Lincoln in South Australia. I was heading there for the New Year. I hope it’s not to late to write this. I apologise for the delay.
Departure Airport: Dublin
Destination Airport: London Heathrow
Airline: Aer Lingus
Flight No: EI 176
Aircraft: A321 EI-CPD
Scheduled Time of Departure: 1735
Scheduled Time of Arrival: 1850
Actual Time of Departure: 1742
Actual Time of Arrival: 1831
Christmas had come and gone and it was now Wednesday 27th of December. My dad’s uncle was picking us up from our house to bring us to the airport. We left our house at 1630, and arrived at 1710. Dublin airport is 8miles approx from our house.
Now you may ask what was I arriving that late at the airport for? Well we looked at the monitor screens in the departures area to find out the assigned check-in desk. When we got to the assigned check in desk, there was an agent there for an Aer Lingus flight to LHR. I was originally scheduled for the 1835 flight, but he informed us that there was no guarantee that, that flight would be flying to London, due to snow forecasted for the Dublin area. So he told us we could get on this flight at 1735. We made a quick dash to the gate, which was in Pier B at gate B27. Boarding had already started.
When we arrived in the aircraft, I took my seat at 16E. I was sitting beside a girl at the window. She was very quiet. She didn’t have much to say, when I tried to strike up a conversation with her. I had bought Airliner World the magazine to keep me occupied for the 1-hour or so to London. Our family were separated all over the aircraft due to us getting the earlier flight. Taxi out to runway 10 began at 1736. The cabin crew went through the normal safety procedures, and we were ready for take-off at 1742.
Take-off was quite swift. We climbed towards our altitude of roughly 30,000 feet. Drinks service began. I asked for a vodka and coke. There seemed to be no dinner service on this flight. I was still having no look with the girl beside me. She was quite attractive. Soon afterwards they started selling beverages and Tobacco. We made our approach towards Heathrow’s 9L. Touchdown was at exactly 1831, and we made our way to gate N86.
When we arrived in Heathrow there was no need to collect our bags. The agent back in Dublin said that they would be checked through all the way to Port Lincoln in South Australia. He did say we would have to check-in with Singapore Airlines in Terminal 3. We made our way all be it slow, to terminal 3. We ended up in the check-in area for Terminal 1. Don’t ask how because I honestly don’t know. My initial intention was that we would get some kind of courtesy bus to terminal 3, but I couldn’t find it. So we ended up walking underground to Terminal 3. It was 1955 by the time we found SQs desk in T3. There was already a line forming. Im glad we didn’t get our original flight. We eventually got checked through at 2020. And the girl at the desk couldn’t have been nicer. She checked us right through to Adelaide. We then made our way to the security checks, which was quite long. When inside the shopping area of T3 I decided to get another airline magazine. This time I got Airliners. A friend of mine in work had said to me don’t bother getting books or magazines at the airport as you will have such a good time travelling Singapore Airlines you wont have time to read them. I hadn’t travelled this airline before and I was looking forward to it, as I had heard so many good things about them in these Airline magazines. I don’t know what you guys think of Terminal 3 but I find it a pain in the ass, your stuck in one area waiting for the gate to come up on the monitor screens. About 45 minutes before Departure the gate number came up. We were assigned M27. There was a mad dash to the gate as there were flights heading everywhere. When we were in the boarding area I saw this poor girl with no leg. She was talking to the security and the pilot of the aircraft, as well as baggage handlers. I overheard them talking. They seemed to have misplaced this poor girls leg. I felt so sorry for her. They apologised to her and said they will send it on the next flight as soon as they find it. It turns out that she’s on the same flight as me all the way to Adelaide.
Departure Airport: London Heathrow
Destination Airport: Singapore (Changi)
Airline: Singapore Airlines
Flight No: SQ 321
Aircraft: 744 9V-SPL
Scheduled Time of Departure: 2215
Scheduled Time of Arrival: 1855
Actual Time of Departure: 2234
Actual Time of Arrival: 1842
My family and I were all seated near the back of the aircraft. This time we weren’t separated and were all seated together. When on board the first thing I noticed was these suits on the flight stewardess’s. The first impression I got was that they must put them in a moulding machine!!! The suits are very nice on them. Anyway this particular stewardess assigned us to our seats at row 57. I don’t know the exact letter but it was at the edge seat on the right hand side of this 744. The time was now 2205. I started playing around with the PTV. (This is my first long haul flight) With that the stewardess handed me this hot-face cloth. I had never seen these before. They are very effective I must say. They cool your face pretty quickly. Then they came around with some toiletry kit. It had toothpaste etc in it. The aircraft seemed to be completely full in the section I was in. Then they started the safety measures as we taxied out to runway 9L. When we lined up for take-off at 2234. The engines were put on full throttle and the breaks were released. After a long take-off roll we left the runway. About 20 minutes into the flight we seemed to be at cruising level. It said 10400m for altitude on the airshow. I don’t know what that is in feet so if anyone can help me it would be appreciated. They started the PTV system. I decided to watch friends. When that ended, dinner was being served. The airshow was showing that we were east of Germany. I decided to have noodles with beef for dinner. Im sorry guys I cant remember the entire dinner list. It was about 0045. I decided to put my head down for a while. There is nothing better than watching Airshow and listening to music while you sleep. The stewardess’s were going around putting down the window shades….
I woke up over India. It was 0715 London time. About ten minutes later the stewardess’s were giving the people that were awake including myself a snack box with crackers and cheese in it. I decided to watch Toy Story 2, which is sh*t I might add!! My dad and myself decided to do a bit of exercising at the back of the plane. He wanted me to go with him. I thought he was mad but there were a few people doing it. I suppose it’s a sign of the times. They were giving out breakfast at the time so we were getting in their way and decided to head back. I then decided to freshen up with the toiletry kit. It wasn’t long before the airshow was showing us that we were over-flying Malaysia. At times during this flight we were showing tail winds of about 90kmh. Soon we were approaching Changi. I haven’t been to this airport before but I heard the bloke next to me say to his wife that we were approaching runway 2R. He must be an aviation enthusiast like myself. We landed at exactly 1842.
A short taxi followed to what seemed to be gate E27. I only found that out when I went inside. I now had 3 and ½ hours to kill in Changi before my next flight to Adelaide at 2230.
There I must leave it as my fingers have become sore. SQ have so far delivered on my expectations but then again I havent done much long haul travel before I hope you all have enjoyed my trip-report so far and I will write the trip report to Adelaide as soon as I can.

Singapore_Air: The seat comfort was excellent. It was fairly easy to sleep, with a foot-rest. They supplied a pillow and a blanket.
I had noodles with beef for dinner. There was also Salmon on the menu if my memory serves me right. The service was with real cutlery. I’d say that service is gone now. For breakfast I just had an orange juice. In between I was just getting Alcoholic Beverages.
As regards the toilets they were immaculately clean. I had a shave over the Indian Ocean. I had bought my own razor blade and shaving foam. The toiletry kit was excellent.
SIA fan: The aircraft I was in didn’t have the tropical livery. It must have been painted earlier in December 2000. It was definitely 9V-SPL
