Arrived to the airport 1 hour 45 minutes before departure, went to check in and asked for a window seat from the center to back (to get a good wing view) the lady said 15A is just in the middle of the airplane and it turned to be the second emergency exit over the left wing.
OK, I went up to the boarding gate and saw that the Spanair flight to Madrid was delayed due to technical reasons, it was a B-717 (EC-HOA which stayed here overnight). My flight was still on time, but when our plane came from Palma (EC-HUZ) Spanair changed planes and we got the delay. I can understand this since on the flight to Madrid were a lot of people with connexions that could be lost.
After changing crews and refuelling the plane to Madrid they started boarding and we were told that our flight was leaving about 11:30 and we were invited for a brekfast (the Madrid folks were also invited before) but only five minutes later we were called for boarding and finally we had only one hour delay.
The short flight to PMI was very nice with a good visibility of the whole island after take off from rwy 24. Landing in PMI was on rwy 24R (24L was closed, may be some manteinance work or something).
Palma de Mallorca - Ibiza (PMI-IBZ)
Flight: AB 8242 (Air Berlin)
Aircraft: B-737-800 D-ABAW
Date: November 16, 2002
Time: 15:05
On check in I asked for a window seat and got 13F, got to the gate and saw the new time 15:40, later they said the flight would be 2 hours and 40 minutes delayed and changed the Gate from D66 to D64. This time we were also invited to a cheese and ham sandwich and pop or beer. Finally we had a delay from 3 hours.
When the plane came, from Berlin, they turned it arround very quick, boarding and push back was also quick and once airborne from rwy 24R the first officer apologized for the delay and said that the plane in Berlin had engine problems and when they saw it couldn´t be fixed quick they had to change the plane.
The flight service consisted on the Air Berlin bags with an orange juice and a bread roll with salami and cheese, like two weeks ago.
It was also dark when we approached IBZ´s rwy 24 for landing. right when I was leaving the airport I heard the boarding call for the return flight to PMI.
The load factor on the two flights was 50%. I had a great day, didn´t care about the delays since I don´t missed any connexions, and now I´m one of the not too many people that have been aboard a 717!
That´s it. Any comments and questions are welcome.

Yes it was a nice experience I really wanted to try the 717 since I´ve been lots of times on DC-9 in the seventies and eighties, and a few in the nineties, and it is one of my favourite airplanes. It reminded me a lot of the DC-9 which actually this one is the last version of this great aircraft.

Hey, I was on the same AB plane as you; 8 months ago, DTM-NUE. And I used the same picture as you to illustrate my trip report. Will have to check about the seat.
Daniel
P.S.: Did they allow smoking on AB? I know it would be a violation of the Real Decreto tal y tal, but they didn´t care on my domestic (German) flight where it´s equally illegal.
