Hello,

Flightnumber: GR322
From: Guernsey
To:Amsterdam
Type: Saab340 a
Reg: GGNTB

As I said last week I was going home for christmas last monday. To see the family and I arranged my favourite spot in the Aircraft. The jumpseat. The day didn't start too good as the captain overslept. Ok happends but still. Went onboard the aircraft and we waited till all the pax had sat down and the door shot.

Time for startup. #1 first. Everything clear outside ok. Start engine. Fuel in, wait for fuel flow and then ignition. Keep checking the temp of the engine as we it is not alloud to be higher then 900 decrees (or bit more, can't remember). Everything fine. Startup temp of #1 was 707 decrees. Pretty funny. Ok time for #2. Start engine, put the fuel in. Waiting for fuel flow and the ignition, only this time the button got stuck and we nearly ended up with a hot start. Everything went fine and start temp on #2 was funny enoug 747 decrees.

Ok time for taxi. Taxi to runway 09 at guernsey airport. And we were cleared for take of straight away. We lined up and put the brakes up. Powered up. CTOT to 106 percent and there we went. V1 at 113 knots and we were airborne in no time. Climed to 5000 feet when the cleared us to brest control. Our cruise altitude was 17000 feet this time.

We had a lot of ice on the way and had to use the anti icing quite a lot. WE build up a cruise speed of approx 200 knots. Luckily we got a few shortcuts and the flight only took about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Andy (fo) got the ATIS of ams and discoverd that the weather wasn't good at all. Cloudbase at 200 feet and fog. Hmmm we had to make a plan. We had holing fuel for over two hours so that wasn't a prolem. We decided that our first alternate was Rotterdam. The weather was slightly better there so that was ok. At abou 9000 feet we went into the clouds. We were cleared for a straight in approach on rw 06 at AMS. At 180 knots flaps went down to 15. And soon enough we were established on the ILS. Gear went down and our landing speed should be arround 115 knots. I looked on the altitude indicator and saw that we passed 1500 feet and still no visibility. I had never been on the flightdeck before when we had to go arround so on ne side I was hoping we had to go arround. At approx 300 feet something came vissible. And I was ready for it so I took a vieuw shots of the landing and they look like this. (only small version)

We parked on A32 (I think) and the aircraft was shutdown. It was a very interesting flight. Hardly any turbulence (much different than the way back this morning. It was really bad but fun).

Hopefully youlike my report and I would like to wish everybody all the best for 2003.

An excellent and detailed trip report, I also like the pictures. Did you enjoy your flight? A jumpseat ride is very special and interesting in my opinion, fortunately I had the big luck to experienced it four times this year.
