Flight: NZ132
Aircraft: Boeing 767-300ER
Date: January 4th, 2003
Departure: 0830

Arriving at Brisbane International Airport in a "Corporate Limo" dropped me off right at the entrance on the top level. The AirNZ Business/Koru line was absolutely empty, which was a pleasant surprise as the rest of the check-in's were absolutely packed (Darn Freedom Air!!). Baggage processed and I made my way down to the passport/ security control, with a short wait there.

I then proceeded to the Air NZ lounge, to my surprise there was a "door-bell" to ring to get into the lounge then there was a green light that opened the door. There was no attendant at the desk, so basically anyone could've come into the lounge at that moment, but that would be very rare to occur!! The lounge was pretty average and a mediocre view of the parking lot and some trees. Usual beverages, and small items to eat were there, no cappuchino machine here though, and no business desks / facilities at all!!

The call went for the flight, and there was a swift entry onto the plane, I was addressed by name and shown to my seat which was 1K by the window in the front row once again. Welcome drinks were served Sparkling Wine, Juice or Water and a New Zealand Herald supplied to all passengers in Business. I have too say that the seats were much newer and more supportive that on the -200ER series, which I came over on.

An average taxi and then pushed back on time. The menu's were given out and a delicious berry smoothie was offered, a small selection of fruit was offered to start with and tables were layed out with a blue table-cloth. The fruit was presented on a frosted blue glass which was very attractive. The menu was as follows. (the "Spice" menu was used on this flight)

Start your day with an energizing breakfast drink, your choice of juice, freshly brewed or decaffeinated coffee, tea, herbal tea or hot chocolate.

Bakery selection
Croissants, muffins, white and wholemeal toast with fruit conserve.

Breakfast Options

Continental selection
with fruit, assorted cereals and yoghurts

Three Egg omelette
filled with spinach, gruyere cheese and onions accompanied by grilled mushrooms and tomato

Honey glazed Ham Steaks
with pineapple, veal sausage, tomato and potato rosti.

I chose the ham steaks and they were fresh and delicious meals. The In-Flight Entertainment was pretty average fare and I watched one movie "Sweet Home Alabama", the screens are reasonably clear and easily adjustable.

The cabin crew were nothing short of spectacular on this flight, I was extremely impressed, everything was explained including menu options and impeccable service. For example I requested to have a Hot Chocolate and it was immediately filled 2 times, even without me asking. Also we were all personally thanked for flying with Air New Zealand, by the Head Flight Attendent which was a nice touch and of course the signature sweets were given out.

The arrival in Auckland was very swift and I rewarded myself by buying a bottle of "Moet & Chandon Cuvee Claude" Champagne only NZ$77 duty-free.

Summary / Scores

Business Class seat
Score: 7.5
I think the Business Class seat is quite comfortable and has a generous recline and legroom , only lacking the electrically adjustment feature. The seats are in 2-2-2 config and have generous padding a warm green/blue hues in the fabric.

Inflight Entertainment
Score: 6.5
The selection was average and enough for this type of flight

Ground Service and Lounge
Score: 5
The lounge in Brisbane is mediocre, but still a restful place, reasonable service in Brisbane ground service

Service and Cabin Attendants
Score: 9
This was superb, and I really have very few faults with it, Congratulations to this Attendents on this particular flight, world-class!!

Score: 8.5
The breakfast was offered too all tastes, and was presentable and reasonably fresh tasting. Nice layout and cutlery.

The score = 36.5 / 50 (77%) which is a good score for Air New Zealand as there has been no product updates since 1996. The new J-Class product to be unveiled will be welcomed, along with some upgrades in the lounges.

Great report... Really enjoyed it.
Never been to New Zealand myself, but if I do go this year... Its a tossup between QF and NZ

What do you think?

Great report and as always good to hear that ANZ service is still one of the best. I am an airline employee and yet every year I fly ANZ from LHR to SYD Business class (paying the proper fare- no staff travel benefits) and feel that now more than ever I am getting value for money, service and just know that ANZ will provide a good if not brilliant flight. Never ever have I had a complaint about my experience on board this brilliant airline. Kepp it up ANZ!

Great report. Flew yesterday on ANZ from AKL SYD in business class and it was marvellous. The FA even gave me a bottle of champayne to take home with me. Trip report to follow.
