This is my second trip report, if you read the BOG-ATL-JFK report this is like a second chapter. I had been in New York for one and a half months when some friends, from Colombia called me to New York and invited me to spend a couple of weeks with them in New Orleans, Louisiana. As I was a little bit tired of being by myself in New York I accepted their invitation. I booked the flight on August 10th, the flight was Jetblue 49 from JFK to MSY.

B6 79 JFK-MSY
Sch. Dep.: 9:00 a.m.
Act. Dep.: 9:30 a.m.
Sch. Arr.: 11:15 a.m.
Act. Arr.: 11:15 p.m.
Seat: 14 F
Aircraft: Airbus 320

As I was based in Manhattan for this log holidays I had to wake up early in the morning to get in time to the airport, the night before I had attended a night session of the U.S. OPEN (Tennis) and the game between Federer and an unknown player ended late in the evening son I woke up a little bit late next day.

I decided to get to the airport by subway (there is a station near my cousin???s apartment), 50St and 8th Avenue, because it was cheaper than taking the bus. I had already tried before and it seemed that I was not going to be late. I left the apartment at 6:20 in the morning and walked a few blocks to the subway station. We got to Howard Beach station at 7:00 a.m. and there I took the free bus to terminal 6, however the driver waited until the bus got filled so we did not left until 7:20. The Jetblue agent had told me that the line at the counter in terminal 6 is usually very long and I was a little bit scared about it, however when I finally got into the terminal I found that there were only three persons in front of me!! An agent gave me the tag for my small baggage and I was quickly placed in the counter, there the typical questions, but suddenly something different, the agent, a woman, gave my passport and my boarding pass to a security guard, she told me that he was going to check my baggage and that if he found everything O.K. I would receive my passport and the boarding pass; the guard check the bag and of course he found nothing unusual so he gave me my papers and I went upstairs to the waiting room; as someone wrote before, Terminal 6 at JFK is really dark, specially the zone that connects the counters with the boarding area, there I found the second check point, the guard asked me to take away from me all the metallic objects that I had and used a metal detector afterwards; I do not know why but the machine sounded and I really did not understand why! She searched for any other metallic object and found nothing so she let me go through and gave me all my things back, but then she told me that I had to wait and asked me to take away my shoes!! I did it and she found nothing; after 15 minutes I was allowed to pass to the boarding area, soon after I found my gate, gate 4, they called the passengers to board the plane. When my turn to board came in I had to take away from me, again, all the metallic stuff that I had (not too much, really), but the machine sounded again and again; then I had to take my shoes away until the guards were sure that I was not a menace to the flight. !!! The funny thing is that they barely looked at my photo in my passport, it was a picture that was taken when I was 17 (now I am 23) and I look thinner and younger, it is hard to find that I am the person of the picture.

Well, finally I was able to board the plane, my seat was 14F, it was the ???Canard Blue???, I had heard that the seats were comfortable and with TV screens at the back of every seat and it was true!! It was amazing, I had the chance to choose between 24 TV channels. The occupancy was about 80%. While we were waiting for taxiing I had the chance to see some aircraft through the window: Aerolineas Argentinas A340, AA A300 and a Jetblue A320; there were also a UA 767 and BA 747 parked at their gates.

When the aircraft began to taxi I was 100% sure that we were going to use runway 13L/31R because it is the closest to Terminal 6, however the aircraft made a left turn and headed for runway 13R. As we were taxiing I had the chance to see that there was a lot of traffic, a lot of aircrafts were ready to take off from runway 13R: I saw some AA757s, another Jetblue and a AV767 ready to go to Bogot??, I had the thought that if I was on that plane I would be able to take lunch with my parents, in my beautiful home city! But it was not going to be that way, I missed them because I had not seen them for more than a month and my grandmother had passed away while I was in NYC, but my friends were waiting for me in New Orleans and there was nothing I could do about it, I had to enjoy my holidays as long as possible.

The aircraft took off at 9:30 a.m., I wanted it to fly all over NYC area to enjoy a beautiful sight but shortly after take off the aircraft made a right turn and headed to the Atlantic ocean, the only landmark I had the chance to see clearly was the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. It was a cloudy day so there was not a lot of things to see through the window, I followed the route of the aircraft in one of the channels on the TV screen; we flew for 15 minutes over the ocean and entered the mainland in southern New Jersey. Then the flight attendants walk through the hall asking for what we would like as a snack, wrote all the requests on a small notebook and then came back with we had ordered (it was not too much, the have to keep their low fares), I asked for chips and orange juice, they were fine. The flight attendants were neither friendly nor rude although I had the chance to see that they were really professionals.

Then I watched some T.V. nothing really good, news, news and news. I tried to find something about sports but only found baseball, I really like Baseball but not that much, my favorite sport is what American calls ???Soccer??? and we just call ???Futbol???, but I found nothing about it. So I decided to search for another kind of entertainment, I found a channel, I think its name was Play Channel, really old play shows, but it gave me some distraction as the weather was as good as I would like it to be. When I finally got tired of Play TV I checked the route and found that we were flying over Atlanta at 35000 feet, automatically I turn my head and looked through the window, but again, only clouds.

Soon after the flight attendants picked up all the waste from what we had taken as snack and the captain announced that we were about to start our descent, I could feel the aircraft descending and also, noticed that there were no more clouds, then I saw a big lake and a runway, I thought that it was our airport but the aircraft did not turn and then I remembered that American cities have more than one airfields. Later someone told me that it was an airbase called ???lakefront??? or something like that. Then I saw a large river: The Mississippi river and then the city, finally I saw three runways and then I knew that it was the airport; the aircraft descended slowly, turned right and landed softly on runway 1, it was 11:15 a.m., just in time; after a short taxiing we were at the gate. I did not see too many aircrafts there: DL737, CO737. I thing I expected that MSY was a bigger airport but it is not, I think that maybe BOG is bigger. When I got out of the plane I found myself at the terminal concourse, made a short walk to the baggage claim area and found, amazingly that the baggage was already there. I picked it up and got out of the building. The weather was hot, hot, hot, and humid, and I missed my city, but then I saw my friends then and forgot about everything, I had made the trip to have fun, not to complain.

Next ???release??? will be FLL-JFK on Jetblue, let me know your comments, greetings from Bogota.

UN_B732:

Well, I would not say that they were friendly, they were nice, professional, they seemed to enjoy their job but certainly they were neither friendly nor rude.
