This trip took place over the past Thanksgiving holiday. I apologize ahead of time for not getting the registration numbers of any of the aircrafts I had the pleasure of flying on. Enjoy the report!

scheduled: AA flight 458 leave AUS 6:51 p.m.
arrive DFW 7:56 p.m.
aircraft: 757

AA flight 1683 leave DFW 8:59 p.m.
arrive ELP 9:46
aircraft: MD80

Professors at my university cancelled classes on Wednesday to ease students' eager anticipation for the holidays. Consequetly, I had a late flight to ELP and ended up arriving at Bergstrom Airport at noon to try standby for an early flight. Parking and check-in were a breeze! The AA agent was courteous and put me on stand by immediately. I tried to board flight 1940 (B757) at 1:48 but it was full and was put on stand by for the next flight. The next plane, #752 was scheduled to depart at 3 p.m. The MD80 was not quite full but became full after the stand-by passengers (including me) were boarded. I boarded the flight eager to go home and had seat 19B. The expanded legroom was excellent and I was comfortable for the short flight to DFW. The flight pushed back on time and flight attendants gave the safety briefing. I was kind of disappointed that I was not taking the 757 but I was excited to be going home. The aircraft taxied to the runway and began roll immediately. The MD80 was off like a rocket! We took off to the south and cruised over Austin and headed north to DFW. Actual flying time was 25 minutes however the attendants still gave the 100% full MD80 a beverage service along with Rold Gold Snack Mix. The attendants were courteous and were still service drinks as were began the descent.The flight was relatively uneventful and the captain gave frequent updates. DFW was cloudy and drizzly. We broke through the clouds, cruised over Fort Worth and made our landing. We taxied to C29 and docked on time.

I went to the gates of the next two ELP flights and was put on standby. All were full and I could not get on any plane until my originally scheduled 8:59 p.m. departure. During those several hours at DFW, I saw Sabena and Korean Air aircraft. Around 8:15 I went to my gate for the MD80 flight to El Paso. Soon it was 8:30...8:45...9:00 and no one was boarded. The gate attendant came over the PA and announced that a mechanical problem would keep us delayed at DFW for an unknown period of time. It wasn't very long and we boarded at 9:20. The 100% full flight was full of college students returning home. We boarded, pushed back and waited in line for take off at DFW. Ten aircraft that included AA MD80s, DL MD88, DL 757, ASA jets all rolled before us. We finally took our spot on the runway and the MD80's engines whined and we were off! We catapulted off the ground and were cruising over the metroplex. DFW at night is amazing! We turned west and flew into total darkness. WestTexas is pitch black at night and was eerily peaceful. Flight attendants entered the cabin and served beveraged and the Rold Gold Snack Mix. Pillows were between every seat and flight attendants offered blankets. Flying time is a little over an hour between DFW and ELP and we began our descent. ELP's city glow is also awe inspiring and we slowly touched down on the runway and docked at the gate only 15 minutes behind schedule. Luggage was there when we were and I was off to enjoy my holiday!
