I arrived to Sydney the night before since the flight departured 09:00 in the morning, I arrived to airport with train from Sydney Central and headed to Cathay Pacific ticket office to revalidate my tickets since I made some changes to the return date. The costumer before med took rely long time and there were only one agent working, finally it was my turn and I handed over my tickets to the agent, I also asked what it would cost to upgrade the return HKG-SYD leg to business class, the agent told me that I have to upgrade the whole ticket and that would cost around 2500 AU$ but she told me that she could give me and exit row seat on the particular flight and save my the money, that’s customer service CX ! I gladly accepted her offer. I headed to the coach station to get in the courtesy coach to the Sydney International Airport Hotel, a hotel I found at www.ratestogo.com.au, the reason why choosed that hotel was that it regarding to the hotel description was the closest hotel to the airport, but when I arrived I released it was located next to the Hilton, which I had chosen if know that it also was close, the room was rely cramped, but Ok for one night.
I arrived at the airport around 06:50, headed straight to the CX check-in desks, no lines at Economy check-in, I was served by an smiling check-in agent. I asked the check-in agent for an exit row seat, no problem with that and I was headed exit row seats all way to BKK, now comes the funny part, she asked me for checked baggage, I told her that I had carry on only, since I was on a short trip, she asked me to put my carry-on on the scale, it shoved 7.01 kg, allowance was 7 kg, perfect packing she told me, I just smiled back, she wished my an pleasant trip and I headed of to security. I breezed through security and immigration. I decided it was time for some eating and shopping before I headed to the gate. Boarding started approximate 30 minutes before departure, they said that we should prepare to board by row numbers, first they called up for passengers traveling with children or disabilities to board first, and of course first, business and OW Sapphire and Emerald. After that they called for everybody else to board, I didn’t know why they dropped the row number boarding but I realized as soon as I boarded the aircraft, the load factor in Y was only about 25%! Smiling FA’s greeted me at the door and pointed out in which director I should go, another smiling FA looked at my boarding and said, “Please follow me Mr. GOTbound”, and she escorted my to me seat, never seen this before in Y! I familiarized my self with what the wall pocket had to offer, amity kit, magazine, blanket, pillow, headphone, etc. The cabin crew finalized the departure procedures and the security information started, even if I by now know the procedure from inside out I always pay attention to it, you never know when that will save your life, I also think it rude by people that just continues reading there papers and not pay attention, I don’t want to do die because they didn’t pay attention! Once we were airborne menu cards were handed out. Today’s menu offered:

Chipolata Sausage, Grilled Back Bacon
Paramentier Potatoes, Boiled Tomato and Grilled Mushrooms
Stir-fried Egg Noodles with Chicken and Pak Choy
Tea – Ceylon, Japanese, Jasmine
Beverages were offered and I opted for a diet coke, I received a full can. I opted for the stir fried chicken with noodles which tasted ok, I asked for another diet coke and was given another full can. I took for ever for the FA’s to collect the tray, btw I really like CX “wooden” try, it’s really nice actually. After the breakfast I played with IFE, none of the movies that they offered caught my interest, so I watch some sit-coms and airshow, well mostly airshow. An hour and half after dinner I went to the galley to ask for some more to drink, it was the same FA that previously served me, I think they wondered if I was addicted to coca-cola, which I guess you can say I am, well I don’t smoke or drink coffee so coca-cola is my only addiction… After a while it was time for Lunch:

I opted for the Chicken again, this time I surprised the FA by choosing red wine to drink, it was served from a regular bottle, not the miniature ones, the Merlot tasted ok. Another drink round was carried out and I opted for a whiskey without ice, that really confused the FA’s, don’t know why, after ½ hour I still haven’t receive my whiskey so I pushed the button and an FA quickly appeared by my seat, I was given a whisky in a little shot glass, about an ½ hour later the first FA arrived with my whiskey and apologized for the delay, this time it was a drinking glass filled up to 2/3 with whiskey, no way I was going to finish all that whiskey! I continued to watch Airshow, and soon the captain come out over the PA and said the we soon would began our descent to HKG. The pilot slammed the 744 on to the runway and taxied to the gate. Debarking the aircraft was quickly, because of the low load factor, I followed the transfer signs and went thru a security check before I entered the terminal area, don’t remember witch terminal but it was the one with low gate numbers, somebody maybe can help me out on this one. I looked at the monitors in the transfer area and saw that I had to head over the other terminal, the one with high gate numbers. I did however have time to look around at the shop in the terminal before I boarded the subway to the other terminal. I looked in even some more shops, well that’s my other addiction, shopping. When I reached the get boarding has already started.

I was greeted by smiling FA at the door, another one, also smiling escorted me to my seat. The Y cabin was 100% full. I was one of the last to board the aircraft, take of procedure soon started, the captain came out on the PA and informed us about today’s flight. We taxied to the runway and began our take of roll, we were soon airborne, the FA started to prepare the food, this flight was listed as “Refreshment” so I expected a sandwich, cupcake ore something like that, I was surprised when they server hot food, fish and rice or chicken pie, I opted for the fish and a diet coke to flush it down with. The fish tasted excellent. In middle of the meal serving a woman across the aisle started to breast feed her infant without covering herself, that was disgusting and I lost my apatite so no desert for me this time. When the nice trays were collected I watch some sit-coms and documentaries on the PTV, the movies didn’t appeal to me once again. I went to the galley and asked for a beer which was handed over by a smiling FA, I really started to like the CX girls. The rest of the flight were uneventful except that the couple with the infant decided to change the nappies on the infant in the cabin, even more disgusting since I could feel the smell, really annoying, especially since there was a lavatory with nursing desk just in front of them! I looked out of the windows as we flew over the Vietnam/Laos border, talk about dense landscape, must been hell fighting VC and NVA there 30 years ago. I looked at Airshow the rest of the flight, after a while the captain informed us that we would land in BKK in 40 minutes, the pilot landed the Airbus smoothly on the runway, I never been to BKK before, but I heard about the golf course, totally unreal! After I debarked the aircraft I headed towards immigration, no lines what so ever, I did get a some stamps in my passport, the immigration agent stamped on an already used page in my passport, that good because they usually skip a 10 pages ore something from your pervious stamps. After the immigration was cleared I headed to the arrival area and was met by my prearranged driver, which drove me to the Radisson Hotel.
