My high school offered a spring break trip to the Bahamas that was un-supervised which means extremely drunk which caused my mom to tell me to look for other ideas, I suggested a week in Disney World with my friends. They don't understand frequent flyer miles so we booked the cheapest available which meant I was on Delta for the first time since 1998. Pre-Flight
Delta Express Flight 2427
Sched Depart: 10:20 AM

Before you start thinking I did NOT take Song, Song doesn't service Orlando until May. My friends father was going to drive us to Kennedy and I suggested we leave 3 hours early at 7:20 but instead he showed up at 6:50 and because we didn't hit any traffic we were at Terminal 3 in 40 minutes. We used curbside check in where even though I wasn't checking any bags (I never do) I received a boarding pass. We went through security where me, my friends mom who was going to be in Kissimme and Dion (one of my friends) all set off the metal detector and had to get wanded, it turns out a pen I was carrying did the trick. We went to the gate and I called my mom who hadn't been up when I left to say goodbye and she remarked that the first time she went to Europe (1977) she left from the same gate my flight to Orlando was going from, we've gone from Pan Am 707's to Delta 757's, what a change. There was absolutely nothing going on, DL had one flight to LAX and the MCO run and an Aeromexico 757 to MEX and that was it for two terminals, the lack of food stands was also disconcerning and Terminal 3 was a bad place to spend 2 1/2 hours. They did have a Business Elite Seats display but there was a sign "Do Not Climb on, display monitored by camera", nuts. I did get my first glimpse at an Avianca new paint 767. Also Terminal 2 was getting ready for song as two gates had new colored chairs and Song painted desks and Jetway signs saying Song. Flying

I was so used to American's Boarding Process with groups that the old method of going in 5 row increments was almost foreign to me. Plus when they called rows 30-35 and I walked on and there were people scattered far forward and there had been an annoucment saying there would be no pre-boarding I remember why Groups are a good idea. Another thing I had forgotten was bad legroom as MRTC had taken me into its clutches and Delta ripped me away and threw me on my knees. I had also not used stethoscope type headphones in a while but those were kinda fun. We were delayed 20 minutes as an idicator light malfunctioned and a new part was brought on followed by the necasary paperwork. We taxied out where we were 4th behind two B6 A320's and an A300. Once airborne Delta Horizon's was started but I decided instead to listen to the Beatles. After 45 minutes a beverage service commenced and I received a cup of coke (no can but it was a large cup) and a bag of Hanover's Pretzels. This has become the industry norm and there's no reason to complain about it. Horizon's was better then CBS Eye on American as the shows (especially the news by CNN) seemed more current. Although it was tough to hear it through the headphones. The flight down provided great views of the coastline and soon enough we touched down at McCoy International.

Stepping out into the airport was such a contrast from the one I had just left, JFK was dreary and cold with gray skys and a brick terminal with gray colors while MCO was bright, airy and sunny with lots of light, I had returned to paradise.

All good things come to an end and sometimes its good they do because Disney sucked me dry of funds, I returned home a broken man with $8 to my name, oh well it was worth it. Pre-Flight

There are a few times in a man's life when he can feel everyone is stupid but him, one of them is when he doesn't check any luggage and uses the kiosk to check in, earning 500 bonus miles AND having boarding pass in hand while the others fumble for ID with the skycap who has to be tipped. We went to a rather decent food court in Terminal B which had the places you'd expect at an airport then went on the monorail to Gates 60-99. I did my pre-flight walk around and found the place rather sleepy. Two widebodies, a 777 and MD-11 to ATL, a DL Shuttle 738 to BOS and a few express 732's just sitting around. I was able to see the gate screens Delta has employed (none at JFK yet) that display every fact about the flight and destination and I must say I was very impressed, now if only AA would use them to get rid of those fuzzy 12 inch TV's at JFK. I was under the impression that I would be on all coach aircraft but I was on actual Delta Mainline 757's with a first class cabin that was boarded first and then the last 5 rows of the plane and up. Being in row 41 I was in the 4th last so I was on very quickly. My friend Tom was seated in the middle seat next to me but we lucked out and had 41C open so he relocated there. We taxied out past the WN/B6 terminal and took off and just like that my sojourn to Florida was only a memory. Delta Horizon's started and I had no interest this time so I read "We Were Soldiers, Once and Young" and listened to Led Zeppelin. The same service on the way down was offered only this time the pretzels weren't stale. One interesting fact was that the f/a serving me was a tall black man in his mid-20's, I can't remember my last African-American flight attendant. The flight passed by really quickly and the next thing I knew I was over Brooklyn by the Verrzano-Narrows and shadowing the Belt into Kennedy which was jumping with International Traffic including a Biman DC-10.
Sched Arrival: 4:28 PM
Actual Arrival: 4:18 PM
We parked at one of the newly dedicated Song Gates right next to Song's only 757 about to go down to PBI again. I got my second "God I'm so smart" feeling of the day and the other 3 in my party clustered around an old baggage claim for 25 minutes waiting for their bags while I held both of mine. At one point the claim broke and the bags had to be dragged down it to their owners.
So ended a great trip, Delta wasn't bad by any means but I have no Elite status or substantial mileage with them so Ill try and stick to AA.

This is very good trip report for yourself did flown on Delta flight, huh? Do you even need anything else to do flying on Delta very much? I won't forget it with older their B732 aircraft before. It will get phased out of Delta Express soon. Well, talk ya later!
