Just thought I'd let you guys know of my trip back on Royal Airlines in their new Royal Plus cabin.
Through the fault of Expedia.com, where I bought a cheap one-way ticket, they upgraded me from economy to Royal Plus. I don't think Expedia was aware of this new service because when I bought the ticket it said that I was booked in 1st Class. This is because I bought an "A" class ticket. Anyawy, "A" is actually one of their economy fares. So, they upgraded me. Yeah for me!
This was my 1st Royal experience and it was great!! The Royal Plus section features the same seating arrangement as economy (3-3), but with much more leg room. I had Seats A,B,C to myself as the cabin was half-full. Pushback was 45min late due to the aircraft arriving late form Toronto where it had to be de-iced prior to the morning flight. Once up in the air we were offered an open bar which I definatly took advantage of. Come on, it's the Holidays!! The meal was quite nice. We had the choice of Chicken or Salmon. I chose the salmon which was served with linens in Royal's colors. That was a nice touch. The cabin service director was always at our disposal and checked up on us regularly. Coffee and Tea were followed by after dinner liquers. Touchdown was extremely smooth and only had to wait a few moments to reach our Gate at Terminal 3.
Royal did a very nice job in their new service. I would fly with them again, especially with the option of accumulating Aeroplan points on their flights. What I think they should do is turn the 3-3 arrangement into a 2-2 with newer seats. For those who wish to feel like riding in business class without paying crazy fares on Air Canada, try Royal Plus. Hope that didn't sound like to much of a commercial.
