Well Im still stuck at Narita Airport, but thats another story. It happily gives me time to tell you about this one!
BMI LHR-CDG F100
My first ever time on a Fokker, or indeed anything smaller than a 735, so I was looking forward to it. Check-in was chaos, massive, massive queues. Luckily I was travelling with hand baggage only so could check in at the Ticket Desk. There was a small queue there, it only took a few minutes to clear.
I was travelling on an eticket, dont do it with bmi! Their system is a nightmare, as they will not accept passports as ID. So mine had to be a bankcard, long story but the trip was a present booked by someone else, the wrong bankcard was entered onto the system..... The checkin agent was training, she had wonderful foreign language skills but very poor English Skills. I then asked why the system was so unnecessaily complex when compared to other airlines (I use at least 20 e/tickets a year on airlines ranging from Qantas to Ryanair), I know how they work. She was very upset at this and told me it was the Lufthansa System (I have a feeling she may have been connected with Lufthansa), implication was "what a peasant". Not impressed.
Security queue passed quickly, very busy at T1. Noticed the Service Desk was helpfully closed. By this point was wondering why, with long queues, unhelpful staff and closed desks Id bothered to fly "frilled". Another story.
Staff at the gate were supposed to be checking boarding cards, but werent. None the less boarding was quick and painless. Also picked up a newspaper (Mail maybe?) and a couple of magazines. Not especially welcoming on boarding, but thats nit picking.
Cabin was in very nice condition, lots of leg room and no awful convertable seat. Also my pet hate, bmis 1980s Bright Orange Stripped British Rail carpet was gone! Hooray!
We left stand early and took right off with no aircraft in front. The F100 is quite low to the ground and it gives a good impression of the speed. Really cool! In fact I have become a bit of an F100 fan, nice spacious interior, nice smooth ride, incredibly quiet cabin - OK it was Row 6, but there was almost no engine noice at all. Plus the seat was comfortable, a very civilised experience.
The crew were pleasant and worked hard. We were served a choice of Sausage or Vegetarian Panini (a bread roll to those who wonder), plus whatever drinks we wanted, although not served together.
The landing was very rough, he just kind of drove it into the ground, I often find that with bmi.
Massive queues at CDG, dig sh^t on the floor, dodge people hastling arrivees, someone needs to demolish that dump.
Overall, take out the airports, a very pleasant experience.
A320 this time, very similar to before. Late departing Paris. Eventually offered a choice of Cheese and Tomato or Chicken with Bacon Sandwich. Very filling as was the breakfast. I say eventually, the captain had announced "10 minutes to landing" by the time I was served. That was greeted to the cry of, "oh shit", by the stewardesses, no literally. They then went into a panic and started running up and down the aisle (literally) with Bin Liners. It was pure Monty Python. By the way landing was so smooth one didnt notice it had happened.
Overall a pleasant experience, combined with their cheap fares now.
