This was a late departure to Tenerife, leaving BHX at 21:30, gotta love these charter flights!!! Plus point to this was that BHX was relatively quite, a MYT to Dalaman and another air2000 to somewhere all departing around the same time. Couldn't see the aircraft reg until we disembarked at TFS, although I had a feeling it was one of the air2000's newer acquisitions as soon as I boarded. G-CPEV is one of the 3 757s air2000 took from British Airways earlier this year. It is a 1999 build, although I think (not definitely sure) that air2000 had completely refitted the aircraft interior before it entered service.
I was very impressed with the interior, the nice new green "leather" seats were really comfortable. The overhead bins were not like the usual 757 ones, more like an airbus one, and the whole lot looked really new. Aircraft did not have flip down TV monitors, it had the TVs on the roof all down the aisle, although they were large TFT screens, not the regular TV screens, again leading me to believe this entire interior was new.
The flight left on time, and we flew SW from BHX to Cardiff, then South over the Bay of Biscay and the channel, following the West coast of France and Portugal down to the Canaries. IFE was pretty good, with a pre-cinema release called "Down with Love". Food was ok, pasta. The service was really good, the only problem was it was really hot on the aircraft. A number of people asked the cabin crew to turn down the temp. and they all said "Oh yes of-course" yet the cabin remained really warm, and it became very uncomfortable. This was made worse by the fact there was no Fresh air vent on the overhead panel (why do the airlines not have this on their new aircraft??? Monarch's vintage 757s last year had it.....) Apart from that little problem, a good flight, landed 15 mins early at TFS at 01:30. I like night landings as they say "to comply with regulations we must now dim the cabin lights........" then they turn all the cabin lights off and you land in darkness!!! Straight passed all the other aircraft to an air-bridge! Overall good flight!!

Another late departure, leaving TFS at 02:45. Check-in went well, as did the waiting around at that un-earthly hour of the morning! Although TFS was rammed, loads of flights, all the British charters were there! We were bussed out to the aircraft, no airbridge today. This was good though as the buss went all the way round the aircraft first, so I could easily see it was G-OOOY. This was new to air2000 in 1998, and had recently had the new colours, could tell this was recent as it had the red titles. Inside the aircraft had been fitted with air2000's new comfortable leather seats, although had the old overhead bins etc. We took off about 5 minutes late at around 02:50 in darkness!! The routing home was similar to the flight down, and we didn't encounter turbulence. The cabin crew were brilliant, up for a laugh and really friendly, even at that time in the morning!! Nothing was too much trouble, and they kept playing pranks on each other. When announcements were being made by the crew at the front, the crew at the back would hi-jack the PA with misterious noises of cows and sheep!!!(think it was some soft toys or similar!). There were some mutterings of "How unprofessional", but most of the aircraft found it very amusing, it helped alleviate the boredom, and showed the crew were up for a laugh!! It was an uneventful flight into BHX, with a good landing (by BHX standards!) 20 minutes early at 06:20.

Overall I was very impressed by my first ever flight with air2000. The aircraft were very nice and well kept, and most of air2000's fleet is very modern, they are even replacing their older 757's. (hence the acquisition of the 3 BA aircraft plus the new builds from Boeing). The service was very good, and the cabin crew brilliant. Well done air2000!! Would not hesitate top book with them again!

Excellent! Thanks very much for your report - I haven't flown charter that much myself, although I thought my few flights were pretty average! Good to hear the service was to your liking. What are TFT screens, BTW? Are they flat-panel or something?

TFT is flat panel. You know you can get those new (well not that new now) computer monitors that are flat, well thats TFT, not sure what it stands for though!!
I like flying charter, mainly because you and everyone else is always happy cus your off on holiday!! The crews are usually up for a laugh and don't have to be as professional as schedueld. Charter flights are generally what you make of them, you know you're not going to get the standards of a schedueld carrier, but then you probably have paid no-where near the price, and often there is no schdueld airline on that route!!

I also like TFS, nice airport. Had a quite a bit of rennovation going on at the moment, but still a good airport, especially for a predominantly holiday destination. I ehar TFN is supposed to be great now, and is starting to get more traffic.

Cool Report,

I like getting bussed out to the aircraft at TFS, always busy and we had to stop to let an Excel 737 taxi right infront of us - gotta love that smell of kerosine.

Flights to Tenerife are always a laugh when flying good old charters. The crew on my last flight there with JMC had us all singing happy birthday to some woman celebrating her 40th. Did you get the round of applause when you landed? Certainly different to flying scheduled carriers.

Regards
Mark

Great report. I flew with DP in 2001 on an A320, they didn't have leather seats then. You got some awful flight times there! I hate night flights.

I love flying charter too - service is better, nicer crews and good atmosphere. Hopefully I won't be waiting too long to my next one!
Air2000 is definately my favourite charter carrier too.

Nice report!

Great report, Im flying to TFS in October again from MAN, and for the 2nd year in a row Im flying MYT DC-10  Big thumbs up
TFS is one of my fave airports because of some of the a.c you see there. Highlights last year included a Domodedovo IL-96  Big thumbs up and Lauda Air 767.

Thanks for all the comments. I was very impressed with air2000 considering it was my first flight with them!! yes, the flight times could have been better, but hey!!
You always get some good aircraft at TFS, theres always something Russian parked up!! And i may have drempt this, ior it may have been the fact i'd been up 20 hours, but i'm sure there was a VC10 there!!! Hmmm on second thoughts I might have been going mad...... Never forget at TFS last time when they bussed us out to the AIH 320, and there was a huge queue up the stairs, but the bus just drove off and left us with no staff!! Aircraft taxiing all around us all over the place!!! AEA737 pulled up on the next stand right next to us.... some people looked genuinly terrified!!funny!
Demoose, no round of applause on landing  Sad He shoulda got one though, smoothest landing I've ever had at Brum!
air2000 are right up there with Monarch (although MON's 757s, though old, do have fresh air vents, sorry it just really bugs me!!)

BHX is nice... one of the best in my opinion Big thumbs up

Luckily my flights will be in the day so I won't be flying through the night with Brummies  Laugh out loud ...unless we're delayed badly.. MyTravel Lite - do they get delayed a lot? Anyway, I've heard the staff are very nice.

Flown Lite twice from BHX, and all flights were ontime or early, crew were really friendly and the boarding process is organised at BHX so the open seating thing isn't that much of a hassle.

I must agree, BHX is definately one of the best in the UK from a pax point of view, they just need to sort out the old check-in area now, it gets really packed at busy times.

Yeah, we were checking in at a desk right at the far end of the hall near a clock that was projected on a wall I seem to remember... anyway, it was totally packed and there was not enough room at all, it was ridiculous.

"I am yet to experience clapping on any flights originating from BHX or going to BHX!"

German tourists do this all the time (strangely), when I operated a few Britannia Gmbh flights years ago they would burst in to applause on a good landing!

Stragely though, they often waited until the aircraft was slowed down to taxy speed and vacating the runway before clapping. My Captain and I considered that perhaps they once burst into applause on a smooth touchdown, only to then go shooting off the end of the runway, and have learned from that experience  Laugh out loud

I used to love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...

Lol! I remember landing at LHR in an Air Malta A320 but you wouldnt of known that the plane had even come into contact with the ground untill the flower power engines came into action...the whole of the plane burst into applause! I had to make a comment as I was sat next to the captains daughter!
