Since I haven't flown on a 737-700 or 500 series I decided to take advantage of Southwest's internet special ($39 each way fare) and go to BNA for the day.

23AUG03
WN flight 1941
MCO-BNA
737-700 / N414WN / Seat 06F
Depart: 3:05pm (actual 3:05pm)
Arrive: 3:55pm (actual 3:40pm)

My ex girlfriend and I are still friends, and she decided she wanted to go with too. Waited till she arrived at my house and left for the airport. Parked in the satellite parking and was dropped off at the terminal around 1:10pm. I decided to use the ticketless kiosk to check in, I was #26 for my flight and was given boarding card A (yey!). We headed through security, and this time I did not have to remove my shoes, BUT MY EX HAD TO PUT HER SANDALS THROUGH THE MACHINE! My mouth dropped....how stupid was that. Since we were 2 hours early, I decided to grab a bite to eat and watch some of the traffic. I saw the Nolan Ryan Express arrive and board for it's flight to Islip....which I saw leaving BNA later that day...how funny! I noticed a few people lining up at our gate so I decided to line up as well (still about 45 minutes til boarding). I was happy to see we got new colors (first time for me.)

We boarded about 25 mins before departure and I took seat 6F...right next to the engine. We pushed back ontime and headed out to runway 17. Take off roll was smooth...engines had a nice low hum to them (beats the heck out of the vacuum cleaner I was flying on with them last time... a -200 series haha). We turned to the left heading west and reached FL100 after about 8 minutes....just as we did we passed over Sea World and the famous parking lot known as I-4.....which had a 3 car accident an hour before. Thank god I was up there....it was backed up for miles! Snack service was started, drinks, Ritz air crisps and peanuts were passed out. The F/A said she would be out soon with the Lobster as our second course  Big grin . The flight was smooth and the -700 series was very comfortable. We began our decent and a Northwest CRJ passed about 2,000 feet below us. I got a photo with my 17-35mm on....and the a/c is still big enough in the shot.....too bad I didn't have my 300mm on!

We did a dive bomber approach into BNA as we passed a rock quarry on the left hand side. We touched.....no....hit earth and proceeded to the gate. The F/A came on and said welcome to Nashville, please remain seated etc etc, and use caution when opening the overhead bins as items may have shifted during flight....ahem....and after a landing like than I'm sure they did. The crew was nice enough to let me get a pic of the flight deck etc (which I ended up screwing up...oh well).

BNA was very empty. We had a 4 hour layover, so I checked out the airport. It reminded me a lot of the Langolears......nothing but an empty airport...especially the Intl gates! Good food though...Miami Subs, Uno etc.
I decided to check in again using the Kiosk about an hour after being there....#1 was printed on my ticket....seemes I was the first one haha.

23AUG03
WN flight 106
BNA-MCO
737-500 / N511SW / Seat 09D
Depart: 8:10pm (actual 8:10pm)
Arrive: 10:50pm (actual 10:42pm)

This was my first -500 series flight, and the cabin was noticeably smaller. We decided to take the exit row and took the rear facing seats. We only had 57 people on our flight, so it was just under half full...which was nice. Pushed back on time and taxied out to the runway (sitting backwards was cool, but confusing when it came to taxiing etc).

Next thing I know we take a sharp turn and the engines throttle up. We didn't use much runway and off into the sky we went....and sliding down my seat I went! Looking out the window I could see how pitched up the nose was....looking at the back of the aircraft and glancing out the window....it was very noticeable at what an angle we were at. The flight was smooth.....and the -500 was actually nice. Seemed to have more of a personality you could say....it was an enjoyable ride. Snakes and drinks were served again. I kept staring out the window at a T-Storm off in the distance....flashes of light kept flickering very few seconds...the lightning had a pinkish/red tint....really cool to see. Decent into MCO was fairly smooth, a few bumps here and there about 3 miles out. Thrust reversers pushed me back into the seat and we quickly taxied to the gate. Once again I was allowed to take a photo.....which I didn't screw up haha. Overall, I was glad to fly on 2 aircraft I had never flown on before.....both flights were early and the crew was very nice. I can't wait to book again with them!

In 3 weeks I'm doing a mileage run MCO-MIA-SFO-DFW-MCO for $160 on AA.

Justin

Will have more photos up soon, just have to edit them.

God I knew there would be a mispelled word in there somewhere....sorry LOL. Funny mistake anyways! I had found a snake in my yard prior to writing this today....maybe that was it...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Justin

I guess snakes would be better than peanuts!  Big thumbs up

Justin,

The next time you experience a rougher-than-normal landing, as you pass the cockpit upon exiting the aircraft, you could always put on your most innocent, unassuming look, and plaintively ask the pilot............"Did we land.....or were we shot down!!!"
