Hello to all! The last week end i've been to London with my girlfriend and i decided 'to use' the points of my Alitalia Millemiglia card.

All economy.

Friday 19 september departure from Venice Marco Polo airport Terminal 1.
flight AZ1454 DL7660. After the ceck in i immediately walked around the new beautiful Terminal 1 at the Venice Marco Polo airport while my girlfriend was looking at the nice and elegant shops i've been at the 3rd floor in the Alitalia's lounge 'Tintoretto' that has a wonderful view on the taxi ways and the lagoon. When i arrived i saw a Delta 763 that was leaving the Terminal and ready to take off to JFK. Next to it it was parked a BA 737, a KL 737, an IB MD80, an AF 320, a LH 321 and an AZ 320 and an AZ MD80, while there were many Volareweb 320 parked in front of the Terminal. There were also some Alpi Eagles F100 parked, an SN 319 that was boarding, a Deutsche B.A 319 and 2 Air One 737 and i saw landing an ATR 72 of CSA and some other AZ MD80.
At 11.30 i went to my gate (A10) for boarding and at 11.35 we went on board on our MD80 to Milan MXP through one of the skybridges.
I took my seat next to my girlfriend and we waited the other passengers. The plane was full and at 11.50 we moved from the terminal to the taxiway following a DH 8 of Austrian Airlines and a B737 of British Airways.
We waited a couple of minutes and then we finally took off at 12.10. Once in the sky we turned on the right over the Venetian Lagoon and then over Venice. The view was beautiful! The F/A informed that the flight to MXP was today of 40min and we should probably wait a couple of minutes over Milan because of the traffic congestion at MXP. After a few minutes the F/A passed with their trolley and they gave us a an elegant box that contained orange juice, cakes, and water.

After a few minutes the captain informed we started our approach to Milan MXP but we had 10 minutes of delay due to the traffic congestion at MXP so we turned for some minutes over the Lombardian Alps and then we landed.
We passed in front of the Terminal 1 at MXP in the Pier B and i saw a South African A330, 2 AZ B767, an AZ 777, an AZ321 and then we parked at Terminal 1 Pier A next to an AF 320. Once at the Terminal we walked to the Terminal 1 Pier B, we passed the border (the UK is not in Schengen) and we walked for some other minutes to our gate B12. After 20 minutes we went on board of our A321. The Alitalia A321 is very nice inside, with very comfortable seats. After a few minutes we were moving from the Terminal and also this time i had a seat on the right next to a window. We waited a couple of minutes because of other planes had to take off and then it was our time. I saw in the same moment we were running on our runway on my right another AZ 321 running in the other runway to take off. It was nice.
Once in the sky we flew over the highways and over the forest and i had on my right the beautiful Italian Alps.
After a few minutes the F/A welcomed us on board again and they informed that our flight to London LHR was of 1h and 20 min then the screens over to the seats came down and it was possible to see our route to London and then later the programme 'just koking'.

After some other minutes the F/A passed with 2 trolleys, once with a box that contained a sandwich, a cake, a cup of water and another with the drinks.
The sandwich and the cake was anyway good. I drunk a beer and then the F/A passed again with tea and coffee and she asked me if i wanted a more beer 'cose my glass was empty  Smile

Then the captain informed us about some technical details of the flight, and the weather conditions in London. The F/A passed later with the trolley of the Alitalia's boutique and then we started our approach to London LHR.

Once landed we parked next to an IB 320.

Sunday 22 september.

This time we flew back from London LGW via Rome FCO.

Our flight to Rome was scheduled at 15.20 and i arrived at Gatwick at 13.45.
After the ceck in (they weren't able to tell me the gate!), we walked to a restaurant and then at 14.30 i tried again to ceck on the screens what was our gate, but again it was written: Rome FCO wait in lounge.. anyway our boarding time was set at 14.45. At 14.42 on the screens it was finally written that our gate was number 14. So we have gone fastly to the gate where we saw our Alitalia A321.
We got into the lounge and we boarded at 15.
At 15.30 the captain informed us that we couldn't move for a very simple technical reason: there was any ready staff at Gatwick to put in the airplane our suitcases! Anyway the F/A have tried to pass the time offering to the passengers some drinks.. but many people were afraid because of the short connections they had in Fiumicino.. and me too..

Anyway finally at 16.15 (with an hour of delay..) the staff arrived! We moved from the terminal at 15.25 and then we took off at 16.35.
The captain once in the sky apologized because of the delay and said he was doing his best to try to cut part of it. The flight to Rome was anyway of 2 hours.
At the opposite of the flight MXP-LHR, the F/A served us a tray with a dinner, then we watched on the screens Mr Bean (!) and after the F/A passed with the trolley with the Alitalia's boutique, the captain informed us that were were able to land in Rome 15min ahead.
Once landed in Rome FCO, we parked at the Terminal C (that it's 20-30 min from the termina A), we got off from the plane and we took the train that connect to the other terminals.
Once arrived at the Terminal A we runned at our gate A10 and we boarded just in time on our plane (an MD80) to Venice.
We waited some other minutes and we left the Terminal. After 10 minutes we were finally to our runway in lane where we waited some other minutes.
After the take off the captain welcomed on board and gave some information on the flight that will be 1h and 5min, then the F/A passed with the trolley and they have distributed a box with cakes and an orange juice.
Before landing the captain informed the passenger that Venice was just on our right side. To land in Venice is really wonderful!

After we landed at Marco Polo Airport we parked at the terminal and we walked to the claims.. but just one of my baggages was arrived.. then i went to the lost and found, i gave my ticket.. and they cecked on their computer. One of my baggages was still at Gatwick! Anyway i received it today morning at home. Ciao

Very nice report, thanks!

I LOVE the seats of AZ, I have never sat down in an aircraft seat that just felt like my sofa at home. Their A32S and MD80's are extremely comfortable.

But... my flights were back in 2002 and apparently they downgraded the service  Sad I still got a tray full of cold cuts (really a big plate) followed by desert (a very nice ice cream on my FCO-BRU flight).

Which were the regs of the planes you flew on? I was on I-BIXZ (A321) and I-DACP/I-DAWI/I-DANH on the MD82.

Ciao Fredric. Actually i really liked the service. The meal is served in a very elegant box and it's surely faster than a tray for short domestic or European flights. The long AZ flights continue anyway to have their traditional tray like the route FCO-LHR.

The registrations were:

VCE-MXP (MD82) I-DATR "City of Livorno"

MXP-LHR (A321) I-BIXE "Roma, Piazza di Spagna"

LGW-FCO (A321) I-BIXA "Milano, Piazza del Duomo"

FCO-VCE (MD80) I-DAWD "City of Catanzaro"

Thanks for that, love tha part about getting drunk!

I've not flown AZ since '92.

The MD11 from Rome to Milan had rock hard seats, thank goodness i got off at Milan and did not continue to JFK!

The MD80 was had a domestic configuration,i've never seen so many seats in a MD80!

I also had 2 DC-9-32 flight - CDG-TRN and MIL-ZRH,both flights were Business Class,the flights,sevice and food were excellent.

I did enjoy AZ on those 4 flights.

nice report, thank you, I enjoyed to read it.
I love to fly AZ and don´t understand why other travellers always said, bad service and else. Delayed and cancelled flights, thats happened on other airlines too, and the last flights I´ve done on Alitalia, I think, they do their best to find a way for theyre customers to an good end. If there is time enough I will post a report with such a "special alitalia event" the next time.
Are you sure to see a DBA A319 at VCE or was it a BA A319?
Regards,Markus (FLIEGER67)

Danke FLIEGER67. I fly even due to my job and i've yr opinion. AZ is not worse than the other major European Airlines. I often criticized the attitude of the F/A but it doesn't depend on the airline you are on, it depends by the attitude of a person. You can find a polite person on AZ, LH or everywhere as you can find a rude one.

One example? Yesterday on the route LHR-FCO, the woman next to my girlfriend protested 'cose she ordered at her agency in London a special meal 'cose she was vegetarian. The agency didn't send the request to AZ 'cose the F/A came with the list of the request to the passenger and she very kindly showed her she wasn't on the list. After she shouted a bit, the F/A offered the lady the possibility to move into the business class and to receive a voucher to spend at FCO. The F/A was even too kind 'cose the lady was very rude to refuse the proposal.

Are you sure to see a DBA A319 at VCE or was it a BA A319?

You are right, i apologize, it was a B737 of DBA to Hamburg.

Grazie for posting this very good report, I enjoyed reading very much. Until now I only flew twice on AZ and both flights were perfect, I hope that I have the chance to fly soon on AZ (to Italy) again, this airline is way underrated.

Good report!

Are you sure you saw a Deutsche BA A319?? I was certain they only had 737s...
Hehe, had the same issue with people unloadung the aircraft when I arrived in MXP last year on a CRJ from HAM... they made us wait in the plane for 30 minutes after arrival, because they needed to unload peoples carry on bags and nobody was there. Once at the baggage belt, it took another 30 minutes for the belt to start moving... Ironically just as we landed I thought what a logistical effort it is to manage an airport - you want the right amount of people at the right plane at the right time...
Obviously it doesnt always work!
VCE definitely is a cool airport. I love it how when you stay in the city you can catch a boat from just outside the terminal!

Yours truly - StarFlyer

Very soon you can even catch the subway under the Lagoon that will connect Piazza San Marco to the Marco Polo Airport in just 10 minutes. The subway line should be open in 2007, while in 2005 under the Marco Polo terminal 1 will be in service the new regional underground system that will connect the main cities of the Region of Veneto (Padova, Verona, Vicenza, Treviso, Venezia). It will be the longest European underground line. From Marco Polo it will be even possible to catch the super fast train Euro Star Italia at the new Railway station.
