I arrived in Washington on a United Airlines 737-500 flight from Hartford Bradley Intl airport at about 03.40pm. While we were taxiing off the runway at Dulles I could already see my Lufthansa B747-200 D-ABYX (Cologne) which was to bring me to Frankfurt later that afternoon.
I walked over to the LH boarding area and got my boarding pass for LH 419.
Since I still had some time to explore the terminal I walked around and enjoyed watching other airplanes. Dulles is my favorite airport in the US and so time went by pretty fast.
The area at the LH gate was extremely overcrowded since there were also some United flights to FRA, AMS, LGW leaving at about the same time.
At about 5.20pm we started boarding. I got my seat which was 38A. Orange juice was offered. Pushback was at 05.45pm and we were waiting in line for our take-off from Dulles' 01R.
We were like number 7 for take-off behind some United flights and a Northwest DC10.
The captain and the crew welcomed us aboard and we got to hear the standard safety advices. At 06.10pm the captain started our take-off run and after a few seconds we were airborne. Take-off fun smooth and fast.
The 747 turned right to head past Baltimore which was pretty good to see. Then right over the NJ shore and exactly over NYC the captain announced that we would have reached our cruising altitude of 37 000 feet. It was great to see the Empire State building and lower Manhattan fromt the air.
Then the f/a's started serving dinner which was the usual chicken or beef in economy. I had the chicken. >>Nothing special-alright.
We passed by Boston and headed up towards Halifax. The first movie was shown but I didn't watch it.
During flight the f/a's came around every 1.5 hours to offer drinks or pretzels.
Breakfast was served somewhere over Ireland. We then came in over London which was also good to see. Some fog there but I saw Tower bridge. Crossed the channel and flew over Brussels. At that time the captain started our descent into
Frankfurt. As we were approaching FRA sun started it's rise and it became a little more cloudy. After a flying time of 7h25minutes we approached Frankfurt from the west and landed at 07.35am on runway 07R. Landing was smooth.
We taxied off the runway to terminal 1 which was quite nice. A few minutes after we have landed in FRA the United 777 flight from IAD arrived, too. All in all a pretty nice flight on Lufthansa.

When I took LH 419 on 6/21, we flew eastbound from IAD, and took a VERY Southern route that even went far South of New York City. It went direktly over Paris. I didn't know that LH419 routes vary so much.

Yeah but it's not only the LH419 flights that vary so much. Others do, too.
I tracked somethe other day and I also saw some flights going over Paris, ...

I love this flight, too Sdate747. Also flight 418. I like the approach on Dulles airport and all these United planes lined up as well as many other foreign carriers there.

Hi Skystar,
how do you know ?
No, on that flight I was for some reason not too much interested in visiting the cockpit. Didn't feel that good. Should have but I'll try to get a ride on my next flights.

Good trip report! I did almost the exact same thing, except I was coming from BOS on a US 733, and connecting to Austrian. Dulles is a nice airport! Did you make it to the Airplane Superstore in the main Terminal?
