I have been up with the Pimp during the day but since he has his night rating and needs to stay current we elected to enjoy the evening of October 22, 2003 to set out on a night venture.

We decided to meet at Burlington AirPark CBTV, at 6pm. Upon arrival, CP was conducting some pre-flight stuff as night was falling fast upon us. Being a small airport, there was a bit of action on the rwy that was plainly visible from the "terminal"! CP will tell you exactly the makes of both of the other aircrafts we saw active there, I know one was a Piper Seneca and the other is a Cessna tail dragger of some sort!

The phone call went into check on the weather and everything looked really good for this evening flight! We then did all of the checks necessary before flight. Before I knew it we were lined up on rwy 32 ready for take off at this point the clock read 7pm and after rotation we smoothly climbed up to circuit height of 1600ft ASL. Once the 180 turn was made from off of rwy 32 we saw Lake Ontario in the distance and we headed right for it!

Gliding above the streets of Burlington and Oakville at only 1000 feet above the ground it was interesting to see lit up streets with car winding their way around them. All in these little subdivisions that are made up of very odd shapes!

Once we got close to the lake we turned east to fly towards the city of Toronto. As we were tracking along the shore we noticed that we were fighting a moderate cross wind causing a little crabbing with the plane. We made it to the 4 stacks before we knew it, and called City Centre Tower on 118.200Mhz. We got clearance from the tower to fly north of the CN tower for some sight seeing. For a better view CP requested a flight level of 2500ft ASL but was only granted 2000ft ASL.

We made two clock wise revolutions over the city, admiring the buildings at night, the skydome was purple tonight and the CN tower is really high! Then we proceeded back to the 4 stacks in the humber bay. Once out of city centre airspace we decided to listen to LBP Tower on 118.350Mhz. We heard a TS flight departing and LH coming in. When we were getting close to Burlington we switched back to the Traffic Frequency at Burlington 123.500Mhz.

CP said the field was over there....not knowing exactly where it was I could only trust him, soon after we both had the field in sight and we joined the circuit and prepared for landing. Luckily I was told about the tree's before the rwy AFTER the fact. Once on final we were seeing 2 white's for most of the decent, good thing because of the tree, if we were seeing two red, we could have been an over sized "weed wacker"!!

About 3/4's the way through the decent we did end up seeing one white and one red and CP absolutely GREASED the rwy, he lightly applied the brakes as there was no one on the approach and there was no need for the rwy. We did a 180 on the rwy and back tracked to the first taxi way. We parked it right up beside the hanger and jumped out!

There were some other highlights to the flight......

The radios in the aircraft allowed us to talk to each other ok, but when CP transmitted a to the tower he couldn't hear himself nor could I hear him, the tower said it was weak but could hear him?

The firken plane didn't heat up at all.....was starting to get warm when we were on the ground

There was no meal service at all....I was hungry!!

The F/A were old and from AC, and were not polite at all.

AND....

The pilot never thanked me for flying flight 3450 with CPA (Cessna Pimp Airways)

There are pictures to come...stay posted!!

Grant

LOL Grant! Thanks for that trip report!

But a couple of corrections. Burlington Airpark in Burlington, Ontario, Canada is CZBA.

Another thing, the circuit height at Burlington is 1,500' so tell the captain of Cessna Pimp Airways to be aware of that for the next flight.  Big grin

Oh, and glad you missed the trees on approach. Looking forward to the pictures!

LOL! Gmonney, you got the same service as on AC, you paid for a meal with Cara (Kelsey's)! Grant and I went to eat there afterwards. Every single time I get problems with the radios. Is it just me Nuno?

I keep thinking Burlington, Vermont... KBTV. Hehehe...

BTW, Did fly circuit at 1500', might of told G'mon otherwise after...

Can't wait for the pics Grant! It was a very nice flight.

Greg, the radios were perfectly normal for a CZBA plane. Most of them when you transmit, the other pilot/instructor/front seat passenger can't hear you with their headset, and vice versa. This is only when you transmit, of course you can talk normally using the mics.

Grant, where are the pics?????

Nuno, I understand that but that wasn't the problem... I could not hear myself as I was transmitting. I any case I don't think that this is the appropriate place for you to comment on all this. Gimme a shout and we can talk about this...

Ciao!

Grégoire

LOL, for the record, I love flying out of CZBA, and if I were concerned, I would change airports. The people there are nice and professional. However, it is true that some of the radios, you can't hear yourself, and neither can the other person with you hear you transmit. But the radio check reveals that the radios do in fact work fine.
