Hello,
Yesterday I took another trip down to San Diego to visit Aaron Goldberg (Trvlr). I always fly non-rev, so this trip report is from a non-revs point of view. First thing that I want to point out is that alll of the non-stop SFO-SAN flights were oversold, so I went through LAX, which I had no-problems doing.
I woke up at 5:00am, took a shower, and got dressed. I grabbed my prepacked bag, and headed out the door to the San Antonio caltrain station. I boarded the train.
My dad works nights right now for United, so he picked me up at the Brodway station. This way I could save $.75 and not go to Milbrae.
We drove to the airport. He dropped me off at the new international terminal. On my way to the terminal, I saw a US Airways 762, which I've never seen at SFO before.
I was listed to go on the 9:45 flight to LAX, but changed my mind, and since I was early, I went on the 8:30. When I checked in for it, first was a little iffy, and when my name was called, I was assigned to seat 18C. After boarding, my name was called, and a move to seat 2D! YAY!
We pushed back on time, and we started to taxi. Blasting off, we headed north, and turned south to LAX. I was offered a full can of soda. Our 737-500 had the old leather seats in first, which is a little nicer for me, bcause I bang my knee on armrest for the newer seats.
We landed about 20 minutes ahead of schedule, and taxied to gate 82. I got off last becasue my bag was in the back of the plane. There was no avalible bin space on board today, in first
I had a little over an hour in LAX before my 11am flight to SAN. I went over to this hudge window in the Shuttle concourse and watched some of the plane traffic nearby.
There was a Korean Airlines 777 taking off, and a Lan Chile A340 landing. I also saw a bunch of MD-80s from AA, and a Continental DC-10.
I got my boarding pass for the 11:07 departure to SAN. I was in seat 1C. YAY! I boarded, and we pushed back. There was an older lady working as the purser. Her name was Kathy. We talked for a while. She hired on with United in 1968.
We pushed back, and waited 15 minutes in line to take off. Once airborn, I got a cup full of Diet Coke, and a bag of the party snack mix. Mmmm. YUM....that snack mix was good. It's just like SkyWest's snack mix.
Actauly, I didnt know this at the time, but on this flight, we flew right over Aaron's house.
Upon landing in San Diego, I had to wait for everyone to get off, becasue my bag was in the main cabin area, and it would be rude if I tried to walk in the opposite flow of traffic.
Aaron was waiting for me in the terminal, and we went to his house. Outside, we looked at the above air traffic. We also surfed airliners.net together.
His family is a member of the admirals club for AA, and Aaron and I went there to spend some time. We had dinner at the airport, and I boarded the 8pm flight
After putting my bag in the bin, the flight attendants thought that I was a flight attendant. The reason was the vest. I put on my vest becasue I spilled some food on my tie, and that was easier than changing the tie. I replied "Are you talking about me?!?" and they smiled and said "no!" in a lying sort of way. I asked them in a very sarcastic tone...very sarcastic.
I ended up chatting with Helga for the whole flight. When I was in teh galley, I helped pour some soda. That flight was really great.
We got put in a holding pattern in SFO, due to the flow that was in affect. There was some turbulence as we flew throught he rain clouds and back in tO SFO.
All togther, I had a great trip, and I look foward to my next flight. All of my flights are examples of how great United really is. They did A++ work, and even though I was non-reving, they went above and beyond expectations.
Well, I hope that you had a great time reading my trip report.

Mike,
its so fun when f/a's think that i'm a flight attendant. All I have to do is wear the vest. Hey, I spent the whole flight helping out in the galley. I got Helga's work address.
I also got some extra snacks fo rmy services. Mmmmm. Pretzel and Cheese mix, and the new party mix.YUM!

You little punk, I forgot to tell you this, but I was sleeping when you called me at 10AM to tell me that you were coming in early!! Well I had a good time anyway.
Does anyone know what was up with that LAN A340 in LAX? I can usually see the 763 they have going over my house on its way to Lima in the afternoon, so David and I were going to go watch the A340, but on all the flight trackers the flight was listed as a 763. Maybe a training flight? We did get to see a few Mexicana flyovers at my house so that was cool.
Also, when David and I were in the Admiral's Club all the other people in there were biz and first class pax on the daily British Airways flight to LGW. When the boarding announcement happened, the entire club cleared out! David and I ended up talking to the people operating the club for quite a while and we were able to be let in again even though my dad (with the membership card) had left already.

Ok, rating time:
•San Francisco Airport: 9/10 minor delays upon landing
•LAX: 10/10 Great airport for spotting. I saw a lot of planes that I would never of seen at SFO
•SAN: The new Delta terminal is great, but the older terminal one lacks in many ways. Its very small.
•Shuttle First: 10/10. Comfy seats, full can of soda/
•Shuttle Economy: 10/10. pleanty of leg room on the 737
•New 737 overhead bins: 6/10. Not large enough for a 22' carry on. I had to turn it sideways on every flight
•Flight Attendants: 21/10: This is why shuttle is so great!
• On time: 9/10 Landed in LAX 10 minutes early, landed 5 minutes late in SAN (LAX's fault), and there was weather in SFO causing a ten minute delay.

David actually FINALLY got his first passport a month ago. I am still dumbfounded as to why he had so much opportunity to go to other countries but never used it. The sad sad things that go on in this world....
Airnewzealand: What good news is this? I would be sure to pass it along to David. heheheh

Aaron, I had my passport for a year and I havent used it!! It isnt fun going trans atlantic with full aircraft trying out non rev. When you fly AA, you have CONFIRMED SEATS. Sadly, I never had that one time. Probability is the thing here in non rev, thats how you play the game.
-------> David, my dad got back from SFO by an ops thing. I can come to the next airliners.net meeting in Feb. Mabye that story of "the future trip of Trvlr to LHR" will change heheheheheheehhe, when I come down!
