6th November 2003.

Heathrow-Kuwait : KUC104 - A340-300 - 9K-ANB

The scene im about to describe really needs to be pictured!! (try your best)!

Im stood in T3 departure lounge as im quite late due to the viewing of all the other aircraft on their stands leading up to mine. We are only about 5 minutes from the initial boarding when........4 Immigration officers each with a limb in their arms drags some guy through the lounge shouting and screeming, he's obviously unaware of priority boarding rules as he kicks out down the gangway!!

I look around me at other passengers wondering whether ive been the only one to witness what just went on! obviously not as each face has their jaw firmly planted on the floor - I could only imagine here we have a deportee who does not want to leave England? poor guy!

Straight away i now realise that unless someone is travelling with this person it could potentially turn rather nasty once airborne. This is the part i wish i would have closed my eyes and counted to 10! There i go up to the counter and ask if there is a problem (of course theres a problem!). Im told hes a Pakistani national who is being deported and that he's on the flight unsupervised!, like a fool i offer my services and tell the staff if you get any problems im sitting in row 23K (a number i will always remember!).

Boarding commences for the unprivelidged and its not long before im sitting in 23K with a nice respectable lady sitting next to me, im on the window my camera's on my lap ready for anything that may pop up thru the window!

4 Immigration officers walk past and throw me a smile, i got the idea that the news travelled quick! suddenly back the officers go towards the rear rather sharpish, next 2 appear next to me and kindly ask the lady to switch seats, she's obviously not happy as she's now settled and tucked into a good book, reluctantly she moves, my face goes from relaxed to a oh no what have i done look! as if by magic matey is hauled from his seat and whisked next to me - oh the joys! - immigration then explain to this chap that i am tasked with escorting him to Kuwait- -witha quick thank you immigration are on their toes! doors locked, safety checks by crew commence, now this guy stinks and i mean stinks, clearly the last week of his "holiday" in England has been spent at her majesty's pleasure, and for you guys that have never been in the cells at a police station they have an unforgettable aroma - of which i clearly detect!

A gorgeous Kuwaiti F/A checks on the seat belt situation - now stinky pants refuses point blankly to comply and begins to react aggressively, My "holiday head" now gets replaced with my "job head" and in no uncertain terms i let him have it ! i tell him ill lock him up in cuffs on the floor for the whole journey if he doesnt do as he's told, with that i reach over grab his belt and clunk click he's secure! a nice wink from the F/A and a comment "are you with him!" HA HA looks that way!

we taxi for departure and my camera is held firmly hoping i can get a pic before matey kicks off again!

Im kinda glad the camera's weren't there!!!!
He had to go back to his seat at the end of that flight to pick up his belongings, by that time i was off the aircraft in the terminal and hiding in the toilet - i could have imagined being followed throughout the terminal by this bloke!
Didn't see him again, dont know if he got his connecting flight to pakistan or not - he's probably a citizen of Kuwait by now!

It was the last few hours of ramadam so i ate my meal in front of him albeit so fast to try and refrain from being physically sick, believe me the stench was consuming!

half way through the flight the captain rang the ramadam's finished bell and food was served - he ate a whole plate full of dates which looked disgusting, although he did offer me one! i gladly refused telling him he'd need it more than me!

Well, after your heroic act I certainly hope the airline rewarded you in some appropriate way!

No, Im not even sure the airline were fully aware of what went on, it seemed as though the flight attendants had no knowledge of this deportee on board hence the question "are you with him?".

have thought about a letter to Kuwait Airways but never got round to it, I'll look upon it as they owe me a favour!
