I woke up at 6:45 in the morning to catch the flight from JFK. Super Shuttle was picking me up at 8:00 and there was someone coming at 7:45 to see my apartment which I am subletting. I just bought the ticket the day before and I was running around the apartment packing my bags. The shuttle came 5 minutes earlier (a first for me) and I still had a piece of bagel in my mouth. I tried to move as fast as I could but it still took me about 10 minutes to get my bags downstairs.
After a crazy ride in the shuttle, I finally got to terminal 8. There was a long line with passengers leaving for the Caribbean and Tokyo. But everything went smoothly and the agent was very nice and we spoke a little. But sadly I got seated on 33G which is in the middle of the plane. Since my flight departed at 12:05, I had a lot of time to kill. Decided to take a ride on the Airtrain and visit some of the terminals I have never been to. There weren’t that many flight leaving or arriving at that time and the airport seemed empty and less chaotic. I only saw an arriving Korean Air. I was also looking for Dean and Deluca in Terminal 4, but I guess they didn’t move back after the renovation.
Airtrain was very nice and there was always someone in each stop wanting to help out. Well, it was already time for me to board my flight to MIA. I proceeded to security which was fast and they wished me a nice flight.
As I got closer to gate 12X, which is located in the hallway, I saw a high school friend who was also traveling to GYE and we found out that we where sitting in the same row. It was very funny. After chatting a little, it was time to board. Business class passengers and passengers traveling with children boarded the aircraft first. At first, I thought that I wasn’t able to store my bags in the overhead compartments since it seemed that everyone was bringing more that two bags. But I found my seat and settled in without a problem.
We pushed back 30 minutes late since we where waiting for two connecting passengers. There were only about 4 empty seats on that flight so I was stuck in the middle of the plane. So, how did the flight go? I am not going to mention anything bad about AA since there are too many and why mention them again and again. So I am going to write about the nice things I liked about the flight. There was this female flight attendant who smiled throughout the flight and made everyone laugh. She is one of the best flight attendants I have seen. Sorry, but I couldn’t get her name. The beverage service was offered twice during the flight which was good. But beside that, there wasn’t anything outstanding during this 3:10 flight (we had strong head winds).
The A300 landed smoothly into MIA which was cloudy. We had to deplane so they could clean up for the next leg of our flight to GYE. This flight also had a full load and I was stuck in the middle seat, again. I think I am mentally scared after a flight from GYE to LAX when I was younger. I was sitting in the middle of the aircraft and suddenly I became sick and nauseous during the flight. And this was in Business Class, so my parents told me to move to a window seat and I felt better. So since then, I have never flown in the middle seats until now.
Well, we finally pushed back about 30 minutes late and took off to sunny and humid GYE. Flight time was going to be 3:55 minutes. Beverage service began promptly after we leveled off at 29,000 feet. I had a can of Coke and I have to say that this is the first time I have been on an international flight where they charged $5 for liquor. I haven’t flown on AA for a while so this was kind of surprising to me. Then the meals were served and we had a choice between Salmon or Pasta. I had the pasta which was delicious and I think I made a good choice since the salmon looked rather dry. The in-flight movie also began, Up Town Girls. I though it was going to be horrible, but it was good enough and I was entertained. The flight attendants in this flight, let me just say, not happy to be there.
I chatted a little with the lady sited next to me about her trip with her kids to Disney World. We where now only 30 minutes from GYE and the captain asked the f/a to prepare the aircraft for landing and that there was going to be some choppy winds ahead. Around this time, a little girl sitting in the row in front of me next to the window vomited all over the floor. Her father placed some newspaper on top and that was it. Smelled horrible. We finally landed and going through immigration was fast, but the luggage delivery was very very very slow. It was almost chaotic. But I finally made it out and had a great night sleep.
Thanks for reading my first trip report. Next time I will pay more attention to things such as runway number, registration number, etc…
