first report after more than 4 months without any trip.
You asked me why? I start a new job in early April and therefore I´m out of normal business with lots of meetings and preparing my new job.
But now nearly at the end of February, no spring in cold and snowy Germany it´s enough: I´ve booked Lufthansas Ready to fly fare 65.-- EURO + Tax = 154,46 EURO, hopefully to find the spring at Athens.  Smile
No train connection this early morning time so I reached STR by car at 5.00 am. A small queue at LH check in, so I expected no waiting time and joined the queue.
At this time I don´t think about the possibility Quick Check In and as I reminded there are lots of people all around and so I had to wait for about 30 minutes till LH opened more counters. What a surprise, the same agent like at my last flight in October (Germanwings) checked me in. Friendly and efficient,
he greeted me by name as I presented my Miles and More Card. Boarding started as I arrived at the gate. And a surprise too, my first time to fly the CRJ-700. Two female agents, very friendly. Flight time 35 minutes with a beverage service. I´ve done this route for several times on LH Classic (CRJ´s are operated by LH CityLine)without any service. The CRJ-700 feels more spacious than the CRJ 100/200 and has a real powerfull takeoff.
Uneventful flight.

Not the warmest welcome this time from the LH Crew as I boarded the AC.
There was one female FA at the door, she said absolutely nothing to me and the other passengers before and behind me Sad
On time departure.
First a beverage service, than a hot breakfast with the opinion between Waffels and Eggs and another beverage service.
Cloudy wheater between Munich and Thessaloniki but clear on the way to Athens and much to see at landing procedure at Athens.
The new Athens Airport is IMO clean and spacious, much better than the old one.
I´ve bought a 24 hour Public transport ticket for only 2,90 EURO and drive by bus and Subway to the city and the hotel.

Hotel Novotel Athens: Booked directly at Novotel Online Special Last Minute fare: 95.-- EURO. Athens is expensive especially this Olympic year but the hotel is ina relative quiet area, if you where sometimes in Athens you know what I mean with relative, and is cheaper than the other 4/5 star hotels but not to far from the main train station and the subway.

After a sunny and warm weekend at the Acropolis and the historic surroundings I´ve bought another 2,90 EURO 24h Ticket (Only one way to or from the airport is permitted)and reached Athens Airport by Subway and Bus
(well connected/no waiting time) at about 15.30.
I used the Quick Check In machine and 1 minute later I hold my boarding pass to FRA. Quick Check In for connecting flights was not possible, so I´m gone to the Check In agent, no queue, and again 1 minute later I hold another boarding pass to STR. The 20 minute late departure was no problem, good wheather, direct route: Athens/Korinth/Tirana/Sarajevo/Zagreb/Graz/Linz/Nuremberg/FRA, ontime arrival. Friendly and funny crew this time. The pilot greeted us: Sit back and relax as much as it´s possible on this fully packed Airbus. Meal opinions: Salmon or chicken,
2 beverage services. Uneventful flight.

I´ve had 50 minutes connecting time at FRA. Arrival from Athens at A22 and as you know FRA a way to go to A38. I arrived as boarding to STR started.
Again friendly crew, no food or drink service this time. Uneventful flight.

Good Job,Lufthansa. Check the load factors, they fill up the planes to earn money.
IMO the StarAlliance works well, many Scandinavians on FRA-ATH-FRA codeshared with SK and lots of Asians/Chinese on FRA-STR codeshared with CA. What are all the chinese people doing at STR in early march?

You know, comments and critics always welcome.

Hi Markus,

interesting report, I enjoyed reading it.

We could actually have nearly met at STR airport as I had the same idea like you ("But now nearly at the end of February, no spring in cold and snowy Germany it´s enough"  Smile ). I did a weekend-trip to Rome STR-FCO-STR on Alitalia on the same weekend (report will follow in the next days).

Hello Markus,

Thank you for a short, but nevertheless insightful report about Lufthansa's European services. It gave me some vauable information about what to expect on my international flights on LH to PMI and CDG this summer - so far, I have avoided to fly LH except when there is no alternative (i.e. on domestic routes), so I am really intrigued if my impressions of them (efficient, but cold) are the same on international routes.

Once again, a really good report! Hope to hear from you again soon!  Big thumbs up
