American Airlines AA 1851
Boeing MD-80
Chicago/O'Hare, IL, USA (ORD) to Atlanta, GA, USA (ATL)
April 1, 2004
Seat: 12D (Economy/Aisle/Group 5)
Gate: L2A (Terminal 3/Concourse L)

Scheduled Departure: 04/01 1:59 PM
Actual Departure: 04/01 1:54 PM
Scheduled Arrival: 04/01 4:59 PM
Actual Arrival: 04/01 4:57 PM
Scheduled Flight Time: 2:00
Actual Flight Time: 2:03

I checked-in online using AA.com Flight Check-in about a day before my flight. I arrived in Chicago/Midway at about 11:30 AM. I hopped on the Chicago Transportation Authority (CTA) subway for an hour ride into O'Hare. The ride took a little longer than expected, and I arrived at O'Hare a little past 1 PM. I had never been in Chicago/O'Hare, and I was fortunate that the subway station wasn't too far from American's Terminal 3. Although I travel mainly through LAX, I was still overwhelmed by the amount of people in the terminal. I proceeded directly to the security checkpoint and passed through security smoothly. I discovered I was in Concourse H or something, and I had a long walk to Concourse L. During the walk, I could see the renovation at O'Hare.

Once I got to Concourse L, I located the closest McDonald's and got myself a McChicken meal. The prices are so much cheaper compared to LAX, and I appreciated the price difference greatly. I proceeded to Gate L2A and waited patiently. I didn't know that boarding had already begun because the entrance to the gate was slightly hidden. When I went over to grab a seat in the gate area, they had already boarded up to Group 3. When they called for Group 4 and Group 5 passengers, I headed to the jet way. The agent scanned my printed boarding pass and returned it to me.

Once on board, I noticed that First Class was completely full. Economy wasn't as tight, since I had an empty middle seat next to me. I had no trouble finding overhead space for my roller luggage. I settled down into my seat and finished my fries and Sprite. The flight attendants welcomed us aboard and conducted their safety demonstrations. The lights were dimmed, and we taxied to our runway. We were in the air after a short wait.

Once we were in the air, carts were pushed out, and we were served a drink and a bag of pretzels. I was given a whole can of Sprite. After my McDonald's medium Sprite, I was quite full. Surprisingly, I jugged down another can of Sprite and finished the pretzels. I went to the bathroom, which was clean and well-maintained. I returned to my seat, and took another long nap. When I woke up, we had begun our descent into Atlanta.

We were at our gate very shortly afterwards. I needed to connect to MARTA, so I started looking for signs. The airport was a little confusing, and if I had checked my bags, I probably would not have found the baggage claim area. Well, I found the MARTA station, and I began an awesome three-day vacation in Atlanta.

I enjoyed my flight on American, and my knees welcomed More Room Throughout Coach especially after a two hour flight on Southwest. I hope American can start serving something other than pretzels. Even peanuts are better than pretzels.

Nice report. I definetly agree with you on the LAX McDonalds prices, I buy a Big Mac Meal there usually once a week and the $6.81 price is just insane, even for a New Yorker.

Good report. I know ATL can be kinda confusing sometimes. Just remember that the MARTA station is on the opposite side of the terminal area than the baggage kiosk where all the heavy luggage/oversides stuff goes...and if I'm not mistaken, you have to walk towards the ascending order of the baggage claim...so the heavy/oversize kiosk is by BagClaim 1, while MARTA is on the opposite end, past BagClaim 20-something and the ticket counters...hope this makes sense.

Just curious, go anywhere good in ATL? I was raised in ATL and still frequent the nightlife whenever I'm home, so I love hearing from other people what they think about it. Let me know.

Well, I never really had a chance to experience Atlanta's nightlife. But I did have fun at the World of Coca-Cola, CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, and Underground Atlanta.

Yea, those are good things to do but pretty much the standard tourist tour...which isn't a bad thing. CNN and Coke are always interesting.

Next time check out an area called "Virgina Highlands," with lots of cool pubs and bars...also, I think the new "clubby" area is in Midtown...plus, there's always Buckhead, which has a combination of both bars and clubs.
