A friendly HELLO to the airliners.net community. I have read such a lot of really good travel reports, now I have found the courage to try it, too.

Please find my experiences on my way from Hanover (HAJ) to Warsaw (WAW) at the beginning of June, as follows.

1st June 2006, LH 1009 HAJ - AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA

As so often I am a little bit late on my way from the office to the airport. Usually this is not a difficulty in Hanover, except during fair times. But I have not calculated the little road works on the motorway A2. However, I am lucky: The traffic jam is not so long and a few minutes later I can go on. As every time I park my car at the petrol station beside the airport for cleaning inside and outside as well as refueling (this trick I have learned from my boss, it saves the costs for the parking garage and when I am back, I nearly get a new car for the same money).

Usually I am on the way for one or two days. This time there are almost 4 days and so I have not only hand luggage, but a bigger suitcase as well. For that reason I have to take the longer way trough the safety lane for luggage. The girl behind the machine seems not really motivated, she presses a button and the machine makes its job. But no difficulty, my case is clean. While check-in the LH attendant wants to check my passport (= first time). I just have the ID card and it is enough (because Poland as my target is now member of the EU). I reach the gate at that time which is shown on my ticket for boarding. But, surprise, surprise, the aircraft just now reach the gate and the passengers are leaving the aircraft. So I decide to spend the next 20 minutes until boarding within the Senator Lounge of LH. Here is the same situation as always: Not the best service, not the best offers concerning food, but all the typical range of beverages of LH lounges (inclusive the Cola light nozzle, which makes just foam than Cola since I know it).

Afterwards the boarding starts and I can take my seat no. 1C. The aircraft is a B 737, Reg no. D-ABXT, name Reutlingen.

It would not be right to say, the aircraft is in a poor condition. But clacking covers, hanging foam rubber, a consumed carpet and middling condition of the rest could not be state of the art for such a high price (and high claim) company like LH. On the other hand it was the best decision of LH to reserve the middle seat. The flight attendants wait for the passengers, but no one of them helps the passengers to place their jackets on the hanger. After departure the flight attendants serve the meal box with a ham-cheese baguette and a fruit yoghurt (both in good quality). The beverages are ok, there are good coffee and good tomato juice. The flight attendants do not ask a second time for beverages. The captain resp. the first officer do not inform about flight details or weather in AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA.

The flight time is calculated with 30 minutes (without wait loops). I am afraid I will not reach my connecting flight to Warsaw (WAW). We arrive at gate A 28, the flight to WAW departs from gate B 47. Bad luck, because the way is very looooong and I leave the plane exactly at beginning of the boarding time of the WAW flight. Ok, there are not so much people on the way at the airport. But the belt within the tunnel from building A to building B is out of order once again. But I am fast and before I reach the plane, I have to present my ID card a second time. The boarding has not yet started, I still have 10 minutes and decide to write down my experiences.

. . . and I still hope that my suitcase will follow me to WAW.

1st June 2006, LH 3304 AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA - WAW

I am the last one while boarding. First surprise: The captain and the purser are standing at the entry and welcome the passengers. Second surprise: The aircraft is not equipped with leather seats but with grey textile seats. The seats have other forms and by my opinion they are not so comfortable as the original ones. The carpet is in blue colour, but in comparison to the usual one, an awful colour. I asked the purser and she said, this is a test configuration. I hope for myself and for LH, it will just remain a test. The aircraft was a B 737, Reg no. D-ABEN, name Neubrandenburg.

Just again I sit on seat no. 1C and my neighbour is the same guy as from the flight before. We departed on time. While climbing we had a marvellous view about Frankfurt, especially the so called Mainhattan (the financial district). Flight time is calculated with 80 minutes. Later on the crew serves the meal: pork on buttered bread, a foam of horseradish, a little quiche and a little strawberry cake (all very cold). I know, it is a question of taste. But the quiche and the bread underneath the pork were not really fresh and in my eyes inedible. The purser ask us more than one time for further beverages. In total I have to say, it was a very friendly crew on board. We arrive WAW very punctually. And I still hope to meet my case again at the belt.
Luckily we reached a parking position directly at the gate. So I have only a short way to the belt. But before that I have to show my ID card the third time (and the last time). I wait on the belt for my case. While my former neighbour take his case from the belt, I hope for my situation.

10 minutes later: No case for me. It came as it must. Since more than one year and over 100 flights I use the first time additional luggage and then this. But, why I should anger? The only thing I can do is to inform the Lost & Found service. The girl checks my baggage tag and find my case immediately in AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA. It shall arrive WAW with the first flight next day and will be delivered directly to the hotel.

And believe it or not: One day later I find my case in the hotel room. That is service as its best. In total I have to say, despite the case problem it was yet a comfortable travel with some points to improve.

Dear Derek,

first of all, welcome to a.net! Thanks for putting the time in to let us know about your trip. The last time I had to use the infamous "tunnel" at Fra must have been at the end of March and even back then one of the travelators was broken - a bad sign that it still hasn't been fixed.

Also, if you are in a rush, you can forget about using the elevator, but instead have to run up several flights of stairs. IMO they need to come up with a solution quick, this tunnel really ruins the overall Fra experience.

Nice report. Last Wednesday, June 02, all of the escalators down at the tunnel worked.  Smile But isn't the train also connecting the A and the B pier? Not sure if this would be so fast, but it might be worth a try.

Many thanks for your friendly salutation. I agree with you concerning the elevators. It is terrible to go from Area B to A and the elevator is full of people. The number of stairs do not find an end. I hope for a better solution.

Thank you for acknowledgement. I think your are right concerning the train. But I have been in hurry I did not think about this fact. But it is a good tip.
