As it is winter in South America, it was high time for me to check out the ski resorts in Chile and Argentina, and Delta airlines has a perfectly time schedule to Santiago from Denver via Atlanta.
This is my third international flight with Delta, the first being TLV-CDG in 1993, and the second being CVG-LGW-CVG in 2003.

Coach-Seat 37 A

I arrived at DIA at 1:30 for my first segment of a long journey to South America. I was bring my skis with me so I could enjoy the powder, or lack there of which I later found out.
The check in positions at DIA are split in to a couple of sections, on one side are all the automatic e-ticket kiosk, and then the other side is the old snaking line for manual check in. Since, I was traveling on an international flight, I went to the old style check in.
The process was quick and painless, and I was check in all the way through to Santiago. Though I did have to sign a waiver for my skis, since Delta did want to take full responsibility for them.

Security was quick and easy, as it always is at DIA, and I was on my way to concourse C, gate 46 for my first leg to Atlanta.

Boarding began just before 3pm, and I was in boarding zone 4. Now, I still can not figure out for the life of me, the rhyme or reason for zone boarding that the airlines have these days. But no matter, I was on my way!
This particular plane was a 767 in the wavy gray livery. The cabin was well maintained, though dark blue and grey is very drab. I took my seat, 37A, and proceeded to rifle through the seat pocket.
There was the usual list suspect, Sky magazine, Sky Mall, safety card, and of course the discomfort bag. What I like about the seat pocket on Delta, is there are two extra pockets in front of the main pocket, to place things such as headphones or boarding passes. Pillow and blanket were available from an over head bin, which is also a nice touch.

Push back was at 3:20, and take off roll was about 10 minutes or so later. I love Denver, never have to wait that long to get off the ground there.

About 10 minutes into the flight, the in-flight service began. This particular flight had the buy on board food program, and the F/A handed out the menu for this flight. Being very wary of paying a very high price for prepackaged food, I opted to wait until Atlanta, thus I enjoyed only a Coca Cola. Pretzels, or a snack mix was not offered on this flight, which I was not to disappointed about, though it would of been nice.
IFE was Delta Horizons air programs. The feature movie was Scooby Doo 2, and the headset were for sale at 2 dollars a piece. These days, you actually buy the head phones to keep. (Not knowing that the same head phones were free on the next flight!) I paid 2 dollars for them to watch a not so great flick.
No matter.

The flight down to Atlanta was relatively fully, though I was luck enough not have someone in the aisle seat next to me.
We touched at 8:15 and taxied to the E concourse, and parked right next to my connecting flight to Santiago.
Atlanta E concourse was better than I expected. Plenty of shopping and eating options, and a wide concourse to walk down, with flights going to all point in the world.

My lay over time was not long, about 2 hours, just enough time to have a wander, a bite to eat, and then I headed for the gate.

Coming on board, the 767-300 is a more spacious plane than my last flight. Larger seats in economy, with pillows, free headsets, menu cards and blankets waiting in the seats. Very nice touch for a long flight.

Crew announcements were made both in English and Spanish, and it seemed as most of the F/A were proficient in Spanish, which is a good thing to see from an American airline.

Push back was on time at 2210, and a very short taxi, and we were on our way to South America!

About 20 minutes after take off F/A came around with the drink service, and the usual fare of soda, juices and the like.
Once that was done, the meal service began, and the following is what was offered from the menu.
Salad- Spring salad served with dressing
Entrees-Pot Roast- accented by maple barbecue sauce, presented with potatoes and green beans with bell peppers
Southwest Chicken-Chicken breast enhanced by Red bell pepper sauce, offered with a southwest vegetable mix and tomato risotto topped with mozzarella cheese

Bread and Butter
Cheese and Crackers

Dessert-Chocolate Cream Dessert.
I opted for the pot roast. This is one of the most fantastic airline meals I have ever had. The meat was fully cooked and juicy, the maple bbq sauce was out of this world, and the vegetables were well cooked and flavorful. The dessert was tasty as well.

The only draw back to the service was the charging for wine on the flight. I know the airlines are cutting back and this was one of the cut backs I am certainly not happy with, but will live with non the less.

While dinner was being served, the movie presentation began on the main screen. First, the wellness/exercise video began, and then the feature presentation, "Welcome to MoosePort". As this is an airline report, I will not get into a review of the film!

Clean up was soon after, and the lights were dimmed for the rest of the evening.
Since I was going all day, I was ready for a good night sleep, or at the very least, sleep in economy class of a plane.
My only complaint with this particular seat was that the arm rest was not in the window well, it was right next to the thicker section of paneling, thus giving me very little arm rest space. Fortunately there was no one sitting next to me, and I was able to stretch out. (I think I would of gone Kookoo for cocoa puffs had some one been sitting next to me, and there was no arm room!)

I managed to get a few hours of sleep, waking up about once or twice to notice water coming around in the middle of the night. Again, points for Delta in going that extra step on their international service.

Lights were turned back on about and hour and half outside Santiago. And the Breakfast meal service began, which consisted of...
Minute made orange juice - Delta made sure to note this is the Minute Maid font, as if they paid for this space
Fresh Fruit, Fruit and Grain Bar
Bagel offered with cream cheese and Preserves.
The bagel came in a foil bag, and it was hot and fresh. The fruit was ok, with oranges and melon. The fruit bar was as standard as anything you can get at a grocery store. And the O.J., well can't really say anything bad about the juice.

As breakfast was being served, sunrise had begun over the Andes, and the views were just out of this world. We were on approach from the North, and landing to the south at SCL.
The remainder of the flight was spent snapping photos of the Andes. And we arrived on time, and I was in Chile!

This flight was much the same as the last. Dinner was the following.
Salad-Seasonal Garden Salad with Italian Dressing
Entrees-Herbed Breast of Chicken: accompanied by sautéed spinach, carrots and mashed red skin potatoes with horseradish

Pasta-Farfel pasta enhanced by four cheese sauce, with roasted vegetables and Marinara sauce, topped with parmesan cheese

Bread and butter
Cheese and Crackers

Dessert-Pineapple Sponge Cake

Juice, Fruit ,Cereal Bar
Croissant presented with butter and Preserves.

I had the chicken, and this was ok at best. The spinach was terrible, it was soggy and tasted kind of funky. The potatoes were great, and the Pineapple Sponge Cake, really wasn't a sponge cake, it was more like moose on a pie crust, but not the less, it was very tasty.

Now, the most notable item of this flight was the movie. Originally scheduled to play was "Along came Polly" and I was looking forward to seeing some light hearted comedy..
However, the particular tape was not working properly, so the crew scrambled to find another movie to play.
That movie was "Primal Fear". No kidding, Delta played a nearly 8 year old movie on the flight. Well, I thought, I'm going to give this a miss, as I am not a big Richard Gere fan. But, as I was not tired, and had just started my dinner, I ended up getting hooked into the movie.
As I was watching the movie, I started to notice, this was the unedited version they were playing. As the movie is liberal peppered with expletives, and graphic crime scene photos, and a sexually explicit scene. And this was being show at dinner time, on the main cabin screen!
Though I wasn't offended by any means, there was a missionary group from Alabama not 3 rows ahead of me, and I could only imagine what was going through there minds!
I enjoyed watching a full length feature unedited like that, but Delta should take more care into what they show on the main screen.

The rest of the flight I slept, and we arrived in a humid Atlanta very early (6:30am), and customs was a breeze (And I got the new Customs and Border Protection passport stamp from Atlanta), and I connected to my Denver flight from concourse A.

This flight left on time, but was delayed due to morning traffic in ATL, and we were on the taxi way for a good 35 minutes, but not much time was made up during the flight. This flight was not to unlike my first flight to ATL, and I got a good sleep in.

Overall, I was impressed with Delta international service to South America, though I know they are certainly behind the eight ball when it comes to service as compared with LAN. Free Headphones, blankets, dinner cards, bi-lingual flight crew, are all pluses.

I would certainly fly Delta again to South America!

Nice report- sounds like you had a good flight. I was talking with my cousin, and she believes she was one of the flight attendants on your ATL-SCL leg!

Too bad you came in the wrong year! snow is in a bad mood and ski resorts are not fully opened yet. I love to ski too, but this turned up to be a very bad season.

What did you do?

BTW, it's common for US airlines to speak spanish in South American routes. The times I've tried AA, all the cabin crew was Chilean actually.
