This is my first trip report, so forgive me if it is uh...I guess..."challenged" in any way..LOL..what other word can I use?*shrug shoulders* Ok, here goes: My flight was
US Airways Express(operated by Trans State Air)
STL-IT / KPIT), USA - Pennsylvania">PIT Flight 3542
Embraer 145 with airstairs
Scheduled departure time:5:50AM Actual Departure Time: 5:50AM
Scheduled Arrival time:8:39AM Actual arrival time: 8:30AM
Well, things did not go exactly as planned(or should I say, my way). We woke up at 2:40AM(yes, I am slow when it comes to flying..LOL), and we left the house at about 3:40AM. We got to the airport, and my grandfather dropped me and my grandmother off at the arrivals(don't ask). We said hi to the very annoyed looking security guard(fine, he might have been tired...LOL), and proceeded through the doors, and up the escalator into the check-in area.
I had printed my boarding pass the night before, so I was hoping to shave off some time. But it turns out it didn't help, because we got to the check in desk for US, to find that no one was there that early. So I went over to the F9 desk, and asked one of the several agents when the US agents normally came in, and they said it can vary from 4:00, to 5:00AM. So I tried to use one of the Self Service kiosks(it was the only one on), but then found out that it needs a credit card for verification, or something, and being 13, I don't have a credit card. So we just stood in line...I was of course constantly looking around, and found myself surprised at how many people there are in STL at that time of morning. It also surprised me that the AA counters were empty, no passengers were there, or agents. I won't even mention the adventure my grandfather went through trying to get to the parking garage.
Eventually the US agents came, and we went to the desk, and I pulled out my itinerary. I was asked how old I was, and I said 13, then the agent said I was going to be a UM. I turned more pale than my white itinerary. Now the reason I took US all the way to IT / KPIT), USA - Pennsylvania">PIT, when I could have taken UA through DEN, or ORD, was to take pictures there in IT / KPIT), USA - Pennsylvania">PIT, and hopefully catch some of the EMB 170's there(I'll talk about that later). From past experience with being a UM, most of the time, the person who has to transfer "this little brat"(the predominant attitude of the people who have transferred me) most definitely do not want to stop at every occupied gate along the way to my next gate, just to let the little nuisance(me, if you get the idea), take pictures of planes. I tried to think of every possible I dea I could to not be a UM. I even went over to UA and asked them if I could change my ticket to UA. They said I couldn't, and I quickly thought of bursting into tears(it has worked before, trust me), but then I thought, well, there will be a blessing out of this, and there was, there really was. So we went back to the US counter, and I said, ok, I'll go with US. So she tagged my luggage and that stuff, then I took my bag over to the TSA stuff. Then we went downstairs, to the A concourse. There was no one in line yet for security, so my grandparents and I went right in, and they were randomly selected to have further screening. My grandmother went through fine, then my Grampa was searched....I was amazed at this question one the TSA guy asked him as he searched him. "Do you wear deodorant?" My Grampa said "Nope, never have", and at first I was like "eugh", then I realized the question that was asked, and I was like, WTF! How does that relate if he is being searched!?!?! I mean, the TSA guy can hold his breath if my Grampa smells that bad, but to ask him out loud?! Anyways.
Eventually, Flight 3542 with service to Pittsburgh was announced, and all passengers were asked to board(ok, fine, all like, 14 passengers). We all went down the jetway, and to my extreme delight, went down stairs onto the tarmac*dreamy eyes in paradise* We walked a little ways out to the aircraft, and walked up the fold down airstairs. All of the other passengers were already mostly situated. I got in, got stuck trying to turn around to walk down the aisle, and then the FA stood up, and shook my hand with a friendly smile, and nice perfume. Her name was Linda, and she made that flight absolutely amazing. She was so nice, she called me hun, honey, sweetie, cutie, sugar, you know, all that good stuff. There was also another FA, I guess she was in training, because she was constantly asking Linda what to say next. She also had to close, and reopen the door several times, so finally Linda closed it for her. I really want to call Trans States and commend Linda, and the trainee. They made the flight great, and were constantly checking to see if I was fine, and Linda and I had a little chat about my dad flying for Skywest, and all my other relatives flying as pilots, and we had fun talking. Oh, and I cannot forget those seats! I sat down, and was like*sound of angels singing*. They were leather, and I was like, screw the 752 to AS / KLAS), USA - Nevada">LAS, I'll take this EMB145 anyday nonstop(I wish) from STL-AS / KLAS), USA - Nevada">LAS!
Then we taxied out, and took off to the West(which runway?), but while taxiing, I saw the most amazing sunrise. I was able to stare at the sun, not squint, but stare head on. I cannot post a picture yet, but I will in a few weeks(sorry for the delay). We took off, and I saw a Champion Air 727, and surprisingly, a TED A320! We have never ever had A320's, only 733's, and 735's, and Express aircraft. Anyone know why it was there? Was it a sub? Also, there was a few C-17 Globemaster's parked out on the remote ramp, which was cool. The sunrise was absolutely beautiful. We banked to the North, and we were off to IT / KPIT), USA - Pennsylvania">PIT!
The flight was kind of bumpy, but it was still great! The snacks were just pretzels, and soda, the normal stuff, and it made me laugh, when the training FA, came down the aisle, and filled up my coke about half an inch! Talk about attention to detail! It made me think, well, at least she is willing to give refills, when I have not received refills without asking on way longer flights than this! The galley carts look like they were falling apart, and the paint was peeling, but that didn't bother me! I took loads of pictures, but once again, will post them later.
One interesting thing I noticed is that all through the flight, I would look out the window across the aisle from me, and I noticed that the horizon constantly moved up and down, like the plane was rocking back and forth like a boat. I have never noticed this on any other flights, anyone know what this was? It wasn't turbulence, it was a gentle rocking. Before I knew it, we were descending into IT / KPIT), USA - Pennsylvania">PIT. The FA's did their normal routine, then gear down(very noisy I must say, but still awesome!), and then I saw our shadow against a tall brick wall that was holding up the hill that Home Depot sat on, then I saw some Globemaster's, then the edge of the runway, then.... touchdown! We exited very fast. AS we were taxiing, I looked at the window, and was surprised to see that it was not he shape of the normal windows we find in other aircraft. This was almost square, not quite, but they were really big(so I was happy).
When we were taxiing to gate A8, I immediately noticed several aircraft parked at the end of the B Concourse. They had winglets, so I thought they might be A319's, but then I realized they were way to short, and then it clicked, they were the brand new EMB-170's!!!!! I just sat there and stared as long as I could, until we taxied past them(I know, its rude to stare, but this is an exception). I was among the last to deplane, and when I got up, Linda, and the trainee said goodbye, and all that stuff, and the trainee took me down the stairs, to the agent who was supposed to take me up to the gate. The trainee said "This is Sean, he is such a cutie", and I immediately blushed. I walked up the jetway, and the agent called a cart to drive me to my next gate. I got on, and we zipped off down the concourse. WE picked up and dropped off a few other people. Then we got to my flight.

I was asked to preboard, and when the agent asked "Sean, where is Sean?". I blushed again(can't help it!), but I have a reason, this time, the entire gate looked up at me, and this is a gate that will completely fill up a 757. There was not one empty seat. Anyways, I boarded the 757, and was amazed at how much open space there was in the area next to L2. I walked down the aisle, and got to my seat in the rear cabin. IT seemed like there was a huge group of people traveling together, almost filling up the rear cabin, so everyone was laughing, and talking, so I did not feel like I was a complete stranger, because they includedme in their conversations. When I saw my seat, I was like"eugh". It was a cloth seat, and compared to the previous flight, I thought the leather should have been on this flight. Oh well.
I noticed the aircraft was ETOPS certified. The flight was relatively smooth*cough*. There was some turbulence, but it was not that bad. The movie shown was Laws of Attraction. The funny thing I found out about was when they announced that headphones would be sold, I got mine out, but they are not exactly the same kind as US uses. I plugged mine into just one of the holes, and it worked fine! So I was able to listen to the movie, without having to pay $5!*start doing chicken dance* After the movie finished(by the way, it was really good I thought), Wheel of Fortune was on, and Frasier. We flew directly over the Grand Canyon, which was absolutely stunning. LOL, compared to the first flight, this is an extremely short description..LOL...Well, This is just part one, but in about 2 and a half weeks, look for part two, and three which will have my AS / KLAS), USA - Nevada">LAS-SAN legs, and SAN-ORD legs.
