well, back from bali and here we go with the trip report (right away, so I don't forget any details  Smile ).

my gf and I were looking for some vacation and Bali seemed just perfect for our needs, so there we went:

No special happenings on that flight (what to expect on a 30 minute ride  Smile ) - just a small snack and an orange juice (or any other drink of my choice of course). Typical LH standard service within germany - nothing special but also nothing to complain about. Takeoff from 28 in NUE and landing on 25R in FRA.

Since we had 2.5 hours to spend in FRA, we went straight to the senator lounge which is very close to gate B42 where our flight was scheduled to depart at 15:05.

we arrived at the gate at about 14:30 and boarding began immediatly so we took our seats and started the 10:15 hours flight with a welcome drink (orange juice again for both of us). It was still TG's old business class (since it was no B777, afaik the only aircraft being equiped with the new already) which is still cozy but getting a little old fashioned...

After takeoff (from "Startbahn West") in FRA, lunch was served... I had a mix of some appetizers and grilled fish with yellow steamed rice and vegetables as main course. Everything tasted great (as usual) and looked horrible (as usual). When will TG learn to change the presentation of their food in C-Class!?

I can't sleep in those business class seats anymore (too much F-Class as it seems!?) so I watched quite a lot of movies (50 first dates, mean girls, new york minute and quite a lot of other chick flicks since TGs movie choice was a little poor...).

After finishing the last movie, breakfast was served (scrambled eggs with shrimps, fruits etc.). Again, very good to eat and very painful to look at.

Anyway, the friendly crew (as usual on TG, I won't mention that anymore, it applies to all TG flights - their crews are among the best!) made that up so I just tried not to look at the food  Smile

Our flight arrived right on time (even some minutes ahead of schedule) on Runway 21R and we went straight to the Royal Orchid Lounge near gate 31 (the lounge newar gate 15 would have been closer from where we arrived but our connection was planned to depart from 31). When entering the lounge, I first was very happy to see, what they did with it. I had been there last year and it looked even more old-fashioned than their aircraft interiors. Now, it became more like a thai-temple of style  Smile. Bad news - out flight to DPS is delayed by 1 hour which would mean another 2.5 hours of waiting. not good - I was tired. BUT: "excuse me sir, we're really sorry, may we offer you a thai massage so time runs by quickly?" - "YES MA'AM!". I had a 1 hour thai massage at their lounge which totally made my day. Beside that, some snacks (spring rolls etc.) at the lounge. Very convenient. Of course "due to aircraft rotation", our gate changed to 15. Ok, let's get the way back...

on our last (4 hours) leg, I watched the stepford wifes and decided not to eat again since I was anything but starving. the A330 seemed to be a bit more modern than the current 747 interior and it was just fine for us (well, I am used to LH which is anything but too comfortable on short and mid-hauls  Smile ).

45 minutes behind schedule, we landed at DPS - YEEHA, we made it, after 26 hourse since leaving our home. Customs clearance went fast (5 minutes) and our driver was already there to pick us up and take us to our first hotel.

--- place 8 wonderful days in bali here ----

8 days pass by fast so it was time to start the return travel...

The A300 is crap compared to the A330. no PTVs, no real legrests... If there had been more seats in our row, it would just have been like LH  Smile main-screen movie was "before sunset" (oh now, not another chick flick)... whatever, I enjoyed some vegetable spring rolls, chilli-prawns and fruits and that flight passed by, too.

in BKK, I went to the ticket counter to upgrade to F-Class for multiple reasons:

- perfect ending for a perfect holiday (espescially my first real vacation with my gf)
- I wanted to sleep
- I wanted another of those PJs  Smile

the lady at the counter told us, that she had to check with her supervisor but sent us up to the F-Class Lounge already so we wouldn't have to wait down there. 10 minutes later, she arrived there, handing me the new boarding passes (and unfortunatly a form to sign that I authorize TG to charge my credit-card...  Smile ) with a smile. F-Class lounge? Got much better too (compared to last year, where I upgraded my return flight, too). Very nice and still cozy. I had another massage and after 3 hours of waiting, we were picked up and escorted to the aircraft (as usual on TG - greeeeeeat service!). we entered the plane, doors closed and we rolled to 21R.

I got my PJ (these changed too from a boring simple blue one to a nicer edition with buttons etc) and changed my clothes immediatly (as almost all the other F-Pax did - F was book with 13 out of 14 seats on that flight). Dinner service started soon with caviar, salmon and lobster (jesus, that improved too!!), followed by sea scallops (as you might have noticed, I love sea food) and some fruits. I "went to bed" after dinner and slept for 8 hours - great. no jetlag at all today (well, until not at least  Smile ). After that, I enjoyed the movie "The clearing" (which I really liked, at least one good movie on that trip  Smile ) and again some fruits for breakfast. Then, I changed my "dress" again and we landed right on time at FRA (25R).

Since we had a very convenient connection, we made a short stop at the lounge and headed straight to Gate A02 where our bus was ready 2 minutes later to bring us to our last aircraft on that trip.

As the first leg, nothing special. Short snack again, small orange juice again, short flight again, smooth landing again  Smile

Our bags were among the last to arrive on the belt (now I know what these senator tags are for  Angry ) but so what - I really enjoyed the whole trip and I'm already looking forward to my next flight on TG (in december, hopefully with the new TG business class on the outbound flight and definitly with the new LH business class on the inbounde  Smile ).

It´s interesting to read about those services Thai offers on the ground (massage, being escorted to the aircraft...wow  Wow! ) , it actually made me kind of jealous at some parts as I usually have the "honour" to travel in Coach Class  Sad

May I ask how much you were charged for your upgrade at BKK?

thanks for your feedback.

Well, it's no big secret. TG charges USD 650 per person on BKK-FRA for Standby-Upgrades. Optional, they currently offer an upgrade that can be done 1 week before departure. It's 480 USD on that route _but_ you can't accrue miles to any other account than a ROP account and we are talking about 15.000 status miles here which I found to be worth the 170 bucks (ok, 340 since we were 2  Smile ) - especially, since this trip brought me the miles I needed to requalify for my SEN Status with LH.

Nice report about my favourite airline.

Unfortunately, you will not have new Thai business class in December. Perhaps December 2005... The 777-200 fleet should have been fitted by now, NONE have been reconfigured. I had a long chat with an inflight supervisor who said the reconfig has been "postponed". TJB apparently had a major check - maybe it has the new 777 config by now. Personally I don't think we'll see the new seats before the A340s... At least you guys get the decent 747s to FRA/MUC.

The massage service is indeed very nice in the lounges.
