After a long week of slinging buggies around at my beloved Wal-Mart, I decided to take a quick trip to ATL, just for fun. I woke up on this cloudy, hot and muggy day (like usual) and went to GPT. Check-In was easier than I expected, the agent took my cash, and printed a boarding pass for the roundtrip (usually one way, but the flights were half-full). She gave me my folder full of papers with Wal-Mart style receipts, and off to Security (I was excited, I got to use the "Entry Scan" which is an explosives detector which looks like a metal detector with telephone booth doors. You stand inside, it blows air for 15 seconds, and a green light flashes). Well, the guy in front of me was scared and jumped when the air shot out, lol. I thought it was neat, as only 5 airports have it in the USA. Then I went through the metal detector, and I noticed there was a star punched on my boarding pass, stand-by maybe? I went to Gate 6. Got bored, needed a smoke, so I left security and did that, and went back through, it was quicker as they saw the star on the boarding pass. Went past the financially troubled Delta Air Lines gate, and awaited boarding. Ship 788 pulls in, unloads its human cargo, then we boarded. I noticed it had TWA seats, very nice. They were better than the other seats AirTran uses on 717's. We departed on Runway 14, over the beach, turned at Grand Casino Biloxi, and headed off to ATL in the clouds. Typical inflight service, pretzel fodder and beverages. The crew was nice, a little paranoid about me taking photos, oh well, I didn't care. We landed in KATL, pulled into Gate 18c
. It was different seeing the colorful baffles of AirTrans jetways, because I usually fly into KMEM.
ATL: Nice airport, Concourse C looks better under construction than it ever did before, except those wretched caged light bulbs (put off more light than before though). Looked exactly like Concourse B when I flew into B13 in July. I went to Gate C4 and watched the action as a 717 loaded for KEWR. I went to ASA's side of C, had a few free snacks courtesy of ASA (Maybe a flight delay or something, CO did the same in ATL once). I sat in some ripped leather couches with an awsome view of the apron (CR7's and stuff). I went by C17 for a puff, it has gotten better in that room now that the ceiling has been yanked, and off to the Eastern Shortcut. I frequented AirTran's Concourses, said hi to Flyer732, and awaited boarding at Gate C10. Oh, and I got photos too.
I sat in C10, wrote down the planes I flew on in the past, and our 717 came in. I was suprised when I saw it was Ship 740, or the "Joe Leonard Plane". The plane was nothing special, actually beaten up a little on the inside. We took off on 8R and headed back to the Coast. Inflight service was a steak and wine (No not really, it was pretzels and juice, better than Fastbreak on DL). We approached the lovely Coast, and I strained by eyes to see the familiar sights of my hometown and the airtran cove, but no luck, we came in over the forests of north Gulfport. The cove is a little place in the woods where I spot planes from time to time, Cessna's and stuff. We landed on 14 and taxied to Gate 6. It was a good trip, and AirTran was great. The majors have lost my business because you can't walk up to Northwest or Delta and pay $130.20 in cash for a student fare, more like "A credit card with $900 please". I have given up on World Perks and my 13,500 miles, can I redeem them? A special thanks to AirTran for a great trip, I realize I have a choice when I fly, and I am thankful I chose AirTran Airways.
