Went home to Michigan for a great weekend- (overtime victory vs. MSU for the Wolverines--- great game!!!!) Here is my trip report- first time on Northwest mainline since March 2003!!

Friday, October 29th
LGA-DTW
Northwest Flight 529
Airbus A320
Scheduled departure time: 558pm
Actual departure time: 558pm (wheels up at 6:03 pm)
Scheduled arrival time: 759pm
Actual arrival time: 750pm
Departure gate: Gate 8 (LGA)
Arrival gate: A69 (DTW)
Seat: 20B

Arrived at the Delta/NW terminal at around 5:00...I was scheduled to take NW 527 leaving at 7:38 pm but I put myself on the standby list for the earlier flight hoping to get an earlier start to my weekend. After a slight mishap at security that had to do with my confusion taking off my outer garment, my silver chain, my silver watch, taking off my shoes, and still holding onto my boarding pass to show them a second time. Yeah, i'm an idiot, and the TSA told me so. When i told them (after my stuff went through the scanner already) that i didn't know where i put my boarding pass while i took off all my stuff, the friendly TSA agent told me (and not in a kidding-type voice) "well you're supposed to hold onto it, you idiot"  Pissed I was gonna tell him not to talk to me that way but I thought better of it. After spending another couple minutes being treated like a terrorist I gathered up my things and went on down to gate 8, where I was told that flight 529 was full and they weren't sure if I'd make it on. Sure enough, I was the second to last one called up to receive my boarding pass. They took my bad and checked it to conserve overhead space, and i proceeded down the jetway and boarded the A320 which was in the new colors (I like it). This A320 was very nice and clean inside, and though I dislike middle seats in general this one was quite spacious and nice. Soon after I boarded the door was shut and the safety demo began. "Welcome aboard Northwest Airlines...a member of the SkyTeam alliance. This is flight 529 with service to Detroit, MI continuing to Indianapolis. Today's flight is operated in cooperation with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Please take the safety information card out of the seat pocket ahead of you and direct your attention to flight attendants in the cabin as we demonstrate important safety information about our aircraft....." After that was done we proceeded out to the runway and were second in line for takeoff, anticipating a one hour and 22 minute flight into DTW. I was very happy as I was seated next to a very nice, very attractive girl who was also a U of M grad like myself. Much to my chagrin she had a boyfriend. Anyhow, the f/a's came around with spinzels and beverages, and the flight was pretty smooth. Route took us over Rochester, NY and over Western Ontario on into Detroit. We touched down in Detroit just after 7:30, and there was a plane at our gate, thus delaying our arrival another 15 minutes or so, but we still arrived early. No matter to me, as I was awaiting the arrival of my friend on flight 334 inbound from LAX, which arrived convieniently at the same time as my flight at the gate across from ours (A68). Although our flight was continuing onto Indianapolis, the onward portion of our flight departed from another gate and our A320 turned around and headed to MHT (why do they do these phantom direct flights????? can someone explain that?)

Sunday, October 31st
DTW-LGA
Northwest Flight 212
Boeing 757-200 (5500 series)
Scheduled departure time: 902pm
Actual departure time: 903pm (wheels up at 9:25 pm)
Scheduled arrival time: 1042pm
Actual arrival time: 1033pm
Departure gate: A40 (DTW)
Arrival gate: Gate 9 (LGA)
Seat: 24A

Continuation of flight from Seattle/Tacoma...this plane was also in the new livery, and was pretty clean on the inside although the interior looked dated (side panels were very 1980s, overhead bins were not the larger modern ones, psu units were dated, etc)...but it was clean so thats all you can ask for. One of the f/a's was surprised to see so many people boarding and remarked "people are supposed to be out trick-or-treating, not flying..." Anyhow, we pushed back just a couple minutes off schedule, and taxied for about 20 minutes before lifting off towards the east. One hour and 3 minutes enroute. Beverages but no spinzels were served (perhaps cause of the late hour?)...all in all, a pretty uneventful flight. Seatbelt light was on for the whole flight besides about five minutes. Touched down in LGA early (nice) and since I was in row 24 I was quick to get out and go home to connecticut - got into my apt at 12 midnite (not bad timewise)....

Hope you enjoyed the report. Great job Northwest!!! Fly the red tails!

Next trip: Delta Connection HVN-CVG-DTW-CVG-HVN .....

Burnsie,

Despite my frequent trips on Delta you guys always read about, I actually am very loyal to Northwest. I made a list of how many flight segments I've been on in my lifetime on Northwest (first time I ever flew NW was 10 years ago in 94, remember it well it was a SFO-DTW flight), and I've been on close to 50 flight segments, and since most of that time was spent either living in Michigan or living in California where I used NW to visit family in Michigan, I've done very little connecting on Northwest (mostly O&D travel). To be exact, i have connected at all three of the hub cities (MSP, MEM, and DTW-old) exactly one time in my lifetime. Interesting to note that I lived in the Detroit suburbs at the time that i connected at DTW...i was returning from LGA heading to ORD without going home  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

On the other hand, though I've flown Delta only for one year and been on around 45 flights (segment #1 lifetime was Nov 12 2003), basically all my flights with Delta involve a connection (I think twice I had no connection)....

If it was price conpetitive and convienient with times, i'd fly Northwest even more often. I love how they're always on-time!!!! I hope your dad continues to fly for NW - maybe he's piloted my flight at some point.

Thanks,short by enjoyable.

I've not flown NW since they were Northwest Orient, back in the 80's. If US go bust i'' start flying them to the states for those 330's,the best plane for the atlantic Smile

I'm a loyal NW'er too. They are always competitve price-wise and have never done me wrong so I look at NWA first. I don't live in the midwest either.

By all means try the A330 over the atlantic- there is no reason to wait for US to go kapoot....Northwest is better than US anyhow.

You know, i've been through LGA three times now since the TSA have been in existence: once on CO, once on DL, and once on NW. In the CO/AC terminal they weren't any bother, and on my DL trip they were fine...it was this particular visit that I had the poorest expereince i've ever had w/ the TSA (yes, even beyond the incessant SSSS crap)

Oh well, i guess being halfway between LaGuardia and Bradley airport, i got a choice...i can be yelled at and chastized in New York or violated during a SSSS episode in Hartford......neither are particularly appealing.

I've quite a few Dividend Miles to try and use up or maintain depending on how things go at US.
