After three days of photography at LHR and MAN it was time to leave. This was indeed the end of the ‘Mega MAN Meet’.
After a heavy night I was awoken at 08:39 a.m. by the sound of an aircraft. It took me a second to remember where I was. I was indeed at the SAS Radisson at MAN. I rushed to the window with my D30, and shot what was the PIA 772 in new colours.

We went and got some breakfast in T3, then wandered about for a bit. We used the self service check in with about 7 hours before our flight! We got 01A and 02A.
After checking in we took some shots from the windows. The aircraft of interest was the VLM Fokker in the new livery! We were sat in a restaurant full of people at the time, it didn’t stop us though! A family of 4 approached us and took an interest in our equipment and stuff.

We played with the idea of going to shoot some planes from the Car Park level 13, but the weather wasn’t being cooperative in the slightest. So we restricted ourselves to the Terminal area.
We wandered up to the car park in search of other members, but was informed by some other random members that they were at the AVP. So we decided against going over there due to the risk of missing our flight home.
The only thing that was actually worth shooting on the car park was the Renault Megane Sport 225! I know a little someone who is due to collect his in a matter of weeks!

We bumped into fellow Airnetters James Trimbee, Michael Catchpole, and Simon Nicholls. These guys had been shooting since the early morning! We sat and chatted and then said our goodbyes. Mr Trimbee came with us! He had to check in for his BMI flight so we agreed on meeting him ‘The other side!!’.
We proceeded through security and what not and met up with James airside. He was gasping for a cigarette so we sat in the smoking area with a group of flight attendants! They seemed very happy.
We sat around like a bunch of lost sheep when James had to go for his flight. We followed shortly. We watched him push back and taxi out for departure.
We boarded our Airbus A319 G-EUPC and made the treacherous journey to 01A and 02A then sat down!
We pushed back, and taxied out for departure. On the way I saw numerous Dash 8’s that I normally see down at my patch (SOU). One that caught my eye was Golf Bravo Romeo Yankee Victor. Fellow Airnetter and close friend MYT332/Alex Howarth took a trip on this one to SOU a month before hand to see me!
We made our way out for departure and waited for aircraft in front of us to depart. One of those being James Trimbee who was delayed a little bit! We crossed 24R and then lined up on 24L.

We increased our power and rolled down 24L. As we were hitting our rotation speed I noticed two people standing where I had been shooting the day before! We rotated nice and early and climbed through the grey sky.

We executed a few banks to the left and to the right. Eventually we passed the clouds and came to a broken spot. The sun came out and lit up our view and wing. This is the best part about flying.

We were up above the clouds and food started to come round. They were offering a desert of some kind; I had some sticky bun with coffee. It was rather quite good! The sky up here was just lovely to look at, I hadn’t seen clear skies in about 2 days!

We climbed to FL190 and cruised at 480-5 mph. The flight was very uneventful. I spent most of it talking to Chris about what our next trip together would be. Little did we know it would have been LHR-CGN-CGN-LHR with an Iran Air 747-SP in the middle!
I noticed in flight that our plane was being shadowed onto a cloud below, there was also some weird rainbow effect in view.
I had an e-mail or two explaining how this is formed. Really quite interesting:
The effect is called a glory, or brocken spectre, it happens when in aircraft on on high things like mountains, when the observer is directly between the sun & the cloud or whatever water droplets in the cloud create the rainbow/halo effect & you can see the shadow of the aircraft because you were directly in the middle.
Before we knew it we were making our descent into London. The weather was not much better here! We passed over LCY and the Central London area. Always love flying into LHR and watching all of this from the air.

We passed over Twickers and other various spots before being on final for 27R. We were shot by fellow photographer Matt Willmott-Sharp! It seems we had coverage as we were leaving and as we were arriving!

We touched down on 27R and deployed the anchors! We taxied into our gate and en-route we were right next to G-BUSC! I had flown this bird LHR-MAN in May 2004!

We waited for the rest of the pax to disembark so we could get up and take some shots. The F/A’s were curious why we were doing it, we explained to them about our hobby and the site we contribute towards. They seemed ok with it! They were shouting at us to get our asses into gear on the P/A so the guys could come in and clean the plane up, this was hilarious!!

We then walked to the front office and asked if we could take a quick look inside. I always love the flight deck visits, seeing all the instruments that you were flown with.

All in all this was another excellent flight with British Airways. I can’t fault this Airline at present.
