This flight was delayed due to late arriving inbound aircraft. As the f/a would later tell us, all but two of the Pinnacle CRJ's were stuck in snowdrifts as tall as the fuselage and couldn't be plowed out to make the morning flights. Furthermore the crew van coming from the hotel got stuck and someone had to procure a Ford F350 4x4 to truck in the flight crews to IND 2 people at a time. The trucks couldn't get to the aircraft to give it water, catering etc so the rampies carried in cans of sodas and pretzels to the a/c and the lavatories were inoperapble. Furthermore, many passengers were late as well getting to IND for the morning flights and as a result, only 10 people or so were on the inbound flight, but it was a full load (44/44) back from LGA. Many people, like me, were connecting to the DTW flight at 1:30 so the f/a had the captain radio down for the latest information on it, which was nice of them to do. We got served spinzels and the full can of pop, which is all u can ask for these days. Flight was a little bumpy on ascent but smoothed out nicely for the 1 hour, 49 minutes enroute to IND. On approach we saw just how much snow they had gotten (over a foot i'd estimate)... and a ATA 738 and a NW CRJ were still stuck in the snow- all but one lone runway was snow-covered at the airport....and inside was a mess indeed. Flight crew deplanes here and the aircraft was Boston-bound....

Not much to report on this flight- the aircraft was here when i arrived at IND, but the flight crew was coming in on another DC-9 from MEM and was late. They finally arrived and this flight ended up leaving almost wingtip-to-wingtip with another delayed DTW-bound flight. There were no fewer than 9 NW aircraft on the ground at the time for NW's 5 gates-- they need to see if they can't secure more gates at the new terminal they are building for IND....they need them evidently. Before we boarded they de-iced the aircraft as a precaution (it was sunny at IND by this time). The f/a's do the safety demo and we cue up with a ATA 753, DH CRJ and another NW DC-9 for the runway (it is interesting to note that by watching the landings that ATA and NW dominate at IND and its obvious)....saw a ATA L1011 in the old old colors (American Trans Air) ... we lifted off for 21,000 feet for the 42 minute flight to DTW....two packs of spinzels and the full can during the short flight-- good job!! Sadly, we landed and we were boxed in of sorts by an army 6 dozen strong of trucks out to get rid of the rest of the snow covering the taxiways and runways, so we waited 20 minutes or so after landing at DTW.... most people were understanding though cause it'd already been a really long day for most. Flight continues (at different gate) to GRR and plane goes to IAD...
Had a nice holiday weekend....hope everyone else did....and the return

For some reason we were asked to hold-off boarding the flight until about 7:00, so we got a late start. Once we boarded the nice new-looking 319 we made pretty good time out to the runway where we were 2nd in line for takeoff on one of the further out runways... we took off- flight seemed to go quick and wasn't too bumpy. We got to about 125 miles away from LGA when we had to enter a rather choppy holding pattern while they cleared accumulating snow from the runway at LGA- they don't have but an inch of snow but they held us for 20 minutes or something close to it.... anyhow, we weren't that bad off schedule- the baggage took forever (!) to come out though which was frustrating as I wanted to get home (another trip tomorrow...gotta rest up)....When we deplaned I noticed that the 7:45 departure to IND still hadn't left yet- some tired people in the boarding area....
Hope you enjoyed the recap...i'm leaving BDL for LAX tomorrow w/ 2 connections (EWR, IAH) each way....but i get a ride on a 777!!!!! (CO, EWR-IAH)....thats why i booked it this way. Will write a recap of my first trip on a 777 and first experience w/ a PTV after the new year.
