Since I'm short on time I'll go to the highlights.

Headed from MKE to Frankfurt and ultimately to Venice.

Jan. 2 - UA (AW) MKE-ORD. 11:40 a.m. Flight 5569.
After saying my goodbyes I headed down the D Concourse to catch my United (Air Wisconsin) flight to ORD. Checking the monitors, the flight kept getting pushed back, so I went to the gate and found out it was running about an hour late. No big problem since I still had time to catch my connection to FRA.

The hour turned into 90 minutes - now I was getting worried as my connection, UA 944, was due to depart at 2:30 p.m. The plane finally arrived from ORD, a BA146, however I heard from the conversation among the three gate agents it only had 86 seats instead of 100. They seemed very disturbed by this as a lot of people were trying to change their flights, go standby etc. They were very busy. So I went to board the plane and the electronic ticket taker flagged my seat as an illegal seat. Turns out my seat was eliminated due to the lower seat capacity. So I went back to the gate agent to see what's up. About 15 mintues later the plane left without me. A second plane was bound for ORD about 30 minutes later, and since I was bumped, the agent said he would make my trip to Frankfurt much more enjoyable by putting me in business class. I said great, lets do it.

Flight to ORD was on a 146 - very uneventful, very fast as those flights typically are. We parked in the B Concourse (the little wing where some Air Wisconsin flights park) and headed to B16. Ironically my original flight was still parked at the gate, but it was already closed. Ten minutes later I watched it pull out about 2:45 p.m.

My new flight, UA 940, was a 777 - first time on this aircraft. Really looking forward to it as it's one more aircraft type I can check off as being on. I stayed down in B16, watching my Packers beat Chicago, then watched Indy and Denver. During my three-plus hour layover a few Lufthansa flights left also for Germany.

I boarded UA 940 about 6 p.m. and took seat 14H - business class is the way to go! What a great experience. About 2/3rds of the seats in business were taken. I did have a gentleman sit next to me however. Service was great - food was great. Personal video was great. And this was the first time flying with the GPS system to watch your own flight. Listening to Ch. 9. we took off pretty much on time from 32L. I listened for the first hour. Other flights on our general course included British Midland flight 706, Swissair flight 9, a few American and a few Northwest as well. Switched over to the movie Wimbleton. My seat reclined almost all the way back and actually got about three hours of sleep. F/As were very attentative. Very good inflight service overall. Landed in FRA about 9:15 a.m. this morning (Monday)

However one of my two checked bags never arrived and as of right now is still lost somewhere in the UA system - Chicago I presume. I spoke with the Lufthansa ground folks in baggage and gave them my info. I called back about two hours ago and still no dice. They said to call back in the morning. I'm leaving for Venice Wednesday, hopefully I'll have it by then otherwise it will just be more hassle for me to eventually receive it.

Despite the lost bag, good experience on UA. The upgrade to business really made the flight. And I like listening to Ch. 9 as well. If any UA rampers see a military green duffle bag laying around, send it to FRA asap!!
