Well, this is my first trip report ever, so hang with me on this one. As you will soon see, I don't have any pics because well, I'm a college student and am a tight one monetarily at that. The only reason why I went on this trip is because my dad's golf friends bailed on him, and I was his backup to go...

Southwest Airlines
Aircraft: 73G
Gate: E16
Registration: Too lazy
Scheduled Departure: 6:55 A.M.
Actual: 6:50 A.M.
Scheduled Arrival: 9:00 A.M.
Actual: 8:55 A.M.

Well, as you may be able to tell my day started off extremely early because my flight was scheduled for just about 7 a.m. Since I live about 20 minutes from the airport we woke up around 4:30, got dressed and headed to the airport. We arrived at ParkExpress at about 5 a.m. and parked our car then proceeded to the east terminal. The curbside check in guy greeted us and made us sign waivers to clear our golf bags thru. We signed the waiver, then proceeded thru security. We went straight to E16, our designated gate to find a Canyon blue 73G with winglets awaiting us. I then looked out the window to see what kind of RON action was over at the C concourse and I saw every gate was full, even 2 ER4's were parked on the tarmac because they had no place to RON. This was a welcome sight from the typical dead St.Louis that I have became accustomed to these days. Boarding began with fighting over who was first in line, and we got on the 73G at about 6:35. We waited for a USA3000 plane to taxi out infront of us, and after that we were on our way. We climbed off to the west, made a turn to the south and headed to Arizona. The flight was nice and it was a little bumpy at times, but I got my own row since the plane was empty (30 pax). We got the usual extravagant WN treatment, then made our descent into PHX. We landed and taxied to gate D6.

Me and my dad went to the baggage claim and discovered that our golf clubs had made the trip, but not our luggage. Somehow, the bags continued onto LAS, and we didn't receive them until later in the day.
Problem being, we were playing golf later that day and had on blue jeans. For those of you that know anything about golf, blue jeans at a country club is a no-no. We had to buy a few clothes and WN reimbursed us 50% of our purchases.

Southwest Airlines
Aircraft: 73G
Registration: ?
Scheduled Departure: 9 A.M.
Actual: 9:15 A.M.
Scheduled Arrival: 1 P.M.
Actual: 12:45

We woke up at our Embassy Suites Scottsdale hotel and made our trek to Sky Harbour Airport around 6:30. We arrived at Avis, unloaded our rental car then headed for the terminal. The WN check in line was incredibly long and understaffed, both of which caused about a 30 minute wait in line. After that, we went down to the baggage office to be reimbursed for our clothing purchases made on our arrival day due to the lost luggage. This was no problem, and we were made out a check for 92 dollars on the spot. We proceeded up 2 levels of stairs to the C security checkpoint, which took about 15 minutes. After we got thru security, it was nearly time to board and we begun doing so at around 8:30. We sat on the plane for about 45 minutes because they had no fueling trucks available, and obviously fuel is something that may be needed on a flight. We taxied out after a couple AA 757's, took off to the east and never turned back. This flight was extremely full, which made for an interesting fight for seats  Wink. We got up to about 40,000 feet, leveled off and it was smooth sailing from there on into St.Louis. The flight attendants came around with juice/soft drinks and peanuts. My Airliners and MLB magazine along with the amazing IFE kept my company thru the flight pretty much to the end. We started our descent into STL at about 12:30, circling over downtown St.Louis which really made me wish I wasn't a cheapskate. We landed on 30L, taxied to gate E22 and that was that.

All in all, Southwest provides a solid and friendly service. I guess I can understand the baggage continuing to LAS given the fact it was a continuation of our flight, but next time I would hope it wouldn't happen.

Sometimes I wonder if Southwest employees are boardering a little on the goofy side with their "clap for him or her", but I guess I'd take that over a rude employee. I'd give WN a 6/10, and I'd fly them again only if they were the cheapest out of STL. If it weren't for the baggage, maybe a 8/10 because of the friendliness....

Glad you had an ok flight with Southwest, as you know they are my second choice out of STL, providing AA is expensive. How was flying on the winglets? any different then a regular 737? They seem to goofy sometimes, but it keeps me laughing, and thats what I prefer instead of arguing with a rude agent as you also mentioned. 40,000 Feet seems quite high, I dont know if iv flown that high. im sure I have. Glad WN reimbursed you.

Good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who go AFTER it!

Nice brief report Lambertman. Haven't been to STL since before TW became AA. I believe you are the first person to mention being in the new D gate concourse at Sky Harbor Terminal 4 since it opened two weeks ago. Although, most don't pay much attention to the concourse upon arrival. Did you depart from that concourse as well? I hope to see it next week when I fly WN to LAX.

Don't just stand there, go get some glue!

That D concourse was really really nice, I didn't know if it was new or what. I departed from the C concourse which was your standard 80's/90's concourse. PHX is a nice airport, lots of activity. Baggage office workers aren't very nice, but hopefully you won't be visiting that anytime soon.

40,000 feet was really really high, and I'm not sure why we flew that high. The WN pilots relaly kept us up to date as to where we were on our flight path and that was something I really enjoyed.

Thank you for the TR. It is ironic that WN’s check was for $92. I recall seeing an article recently that a mishandled bag costs an airline on average $90.

Did this trip include any wagering activities at the dog track situated between the rental car places and Sky Harbor?
