When I was 6 or 7 years old, I was coming back to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia from Karachi, Pakistan.
It was a typical taxi to the runway. The aircraft reached its takeoff power and started to roll. When it reached the right speed, the nose as usual went up for takeoff but just before the aircraft lifted above the ground, the pilot aborted the takeoff. We had to go back to the ramp and some fixtures took place.
I remember someone saying that it was an engine failure but now I wonder that if that happened, wouldn't the aircraft have slidded off the runway?

Not necessarily. Runways in that part of the world are fairly long, so even if the pilot had aborted the takeoff at a late stage, there'd be plenty of time left. However, if he did decide to abort after the nosegear had left the ground, it was either a very serious problem or he made a big mistake. He probably made the decision before V1 and returned to the apron to do whatever needed to be done - and to let the brakes cool down!

The runway at the Karachi which is used for take off is only around 12000 foot (approximately). I don't think that is sufficient for A300 600 at more than 200 knots to come to full stop.
