Here I go for my second trip report for a.net...
Since a long time I was looking forward to experience flying SN Brussels in one of their daily flight from Geneva to Brussels and last monday I had a good opportunity to fly business class on both RJ100 and A319 of their fleet. Also a good occasion to test my brand new handycam as well. It was an early departing from GVA therefore at 6am I took my bike and headed to the airport in a very pleasant and beautiful spring morning ride.
Rem: To download the realmedia videos on your hard-disk, as usual : right-click on the link and select "Save Target As..."
There wasn’t a lot of passengers and the RJ100 was barely half filled for this connection between these two international cities. When boarding was completed newspapers were distributed and refreshments served almost immediately. The push-back was approved and the four engines started "The RJ100, the one and only a/c to have 5 APU’s" haha, just kidding
I’d be tempted to say that take-off and departing procedure from GVA rwy23 was as usual for northern cities : We maintained the runway heading a little bit further after passing over Passery VOR and then we turned right heading north. I didn’t taped the take-off because I wanted to fully enjoy the view of Geneva in the morning. As we continued to climb the breakfast was served. Not even the time to finish it and we started our descent towards BRU. The captain made an announcement on the pa and said the weather was nice in Brussels with almost no wind. We aligned for final on rwy 25R and I started to tape over.
After parking on gate A46 we were transferred by bus to pier B in order to pass the customs. This gave me the opportunity to spot an old DC-10-30 parked on the cargo area (my fav a/c btw) and two beautifuls SN A330 preparing for their long flights. After this I spent a day of work in Mechelen some 22 kilometers north of Brussels but I won’t spent time on writing uninteresting stuff isn’it ?
I was lucky enough to be able to return to Zaventem airport before planned and this gave me some extra time to spent for spotting. I went to pier B and walked along the terminal until the very end of it and started videotaping some action there.
Video - Spotting from Pier B at BRU (15.4Mb)
(Sorry but it's hard to film without having these large windows reflects. Engine sound are barely heard from the terminal, so I decided to add some music instead)
The boarding started and I soon found myself sitting in the second row. The business class was almost empty but economy was pretty crowded. Same as the morning flight, newspapers, refreshments, push-back and engine start. We used rwy 25R for take-off and I taped it over.
I want to emphasize that on both legs I was very delighted with SN business class onboard service with very friendly and professional F/A. I was expecting something good and wasn't disapointed, the seats in both the RJ100 and A319 are very confortable. SN is doing a great job, I hope to experience a long haul flight with them one day, congratulations and keep up the good work SN !
I hope you enjoyed reading this short trip report.

Great work - excellent videos. The approach into Geneva looks very scenic - I need to get out there soon!

Nice report with excellent videos! To reiterate what Shilla asked, what camera did you use? I'm looking at getting one myself, but am having difficulty deciding which one to get, so any pointers would be gratefully received.
I was particularly interested in seeing your footage of Geneva - I almost made a visit there last November as Swiss were doing some great deals out of LCY (although in the end I went to Venice instead...long story!), I am still considering doing a trip there next autumn/winter so seeing some shots of the area was great.
Cheers.
Andy.

Hello guys, thanks for your nice comments ! The camera is a Sony DCR-PC350E.
I searched a lot of time before buying this one. It's a little expensive but definitely worth the investment. The shots on poor light conditions are excellent. I'm very happy with it, the quality is cristal clear on DVD !

Alphafloor,
Fantastic videos and great reporting !
Agree with you, the sound of those engines on the 319/320/321 is amazing (if you're seated in the first 4-5 rows, I guess) !
Having just done a return trip on an EI A320 AMS-DUB-AMS and seated on seat 2F, I know exactly what you mean: it's just like a vacuumcleaner It's also nice to see the RPM changes (the "eye" turning faster and slower during approach), when in one of these front-row seats.

Excellent report! And wonderful videos, I really enjoyed the approach. I always love landing at GVA, what views. A wonderful city in what must be one of the most breathtaking areas around.

Great video report, AlphaFloor. As a Belgian having lived at Geneva for 5 years, I use to travel that route quite often with an airline that was called Sabena. It was always a nice experience that SN Brussels is continuing now.
It is a pity that SWISS is abandoning routes from Geneva to other airlines, but in the case of Brussels, it has been a plus.
