May 6th 2004
Fairbanks (FAI) – Pasco (PSC)
Alaska Airlines Flt Number 114
FAI-SEA
737-800 Seat 12C
N549AS
Its about 12 AM, and I decided that it would be an alright time to start heading to Hotel.
I get to Princess at about 12:15. I decided that it would be way cheaper for me, to leave my car at work, and take the shuttle, versus leaving my car at the airport.
The van drops me off in front of FAI at about 12:20, and then I head in to check in.
I decide to use the ITM, because I’ve never used it. And it seemed simple enough, but after I checked in, I still had to wait in the long line to check bags. I sort of thought that it defeated the purpose of using the ITM if, in the end, I had to wait in another line.
Oh well
Check in seemed simple, then I headed upstairs to go through security. The line was probably the longest I’ve ever seen in Fairbanks. But I got through it in about 15 minutes. Which was not too bad.
I head on over to gate 8, which I had never been at before. ( it used to be Delta’s gate. )
It was dark outside, so I couldn’t really get any pictures, so that sort of sucked. SO I just killed time listening to some brand new. Scheduled boarding time came and left, before they ever said anything. Finally at about 1:15am (bout’ 15 minutes late) they decided we could get on N549AS. Boarding was quick, BUT I don’t know if I like how they just board everyone at once, but it did work out okay. Once onboard the plane I was blown away by the new 737-800 interior. Oh man, Alaska is DEFFIENTLY doing something right with the new leather seats! Now, I’m not sure if the 800’s has different seats than their other planes, but these were amazing, and the adjustable head rests were an awesome touch! Way to go Alaska!
We pushed back rather quickly; I’m sure to make up some lost time. And headed to the end of the runway, flipped around real quick, and did a full power take off. The 800 had some amazing power, and great lift!
After we reached the 10,000ft mark, 98 percent of reading lights went off, except for mine. I killed some time and read the air magazine. Then the beverage service began. I got my usual ginger ale. Alaska airlines has the best kind (CANADIAN DRY) The F/A was really nice and after drink service was done, he came back to my seat to visit with me, which was awesome.
I fell asleep not too long after, from have being up all day, and woke up on the decent into Seattle. Landing was smooth, and nice, and we then taxied on to gate C14.
Once off the plane I got off, took a few pics of the plane I just flew in on, as it was daylight in SEA
I only got a few though, as I wanted to make sure I had enough time to go check out the new Pacific Market That I’ve heard so much about. It had only opened 3 days prior, and BOY was it awesome!!
I just walked around and took it all in, But it was absolutely amazing, No other word to describe it! The best part though, would have to be the amazing glass window overlooking the runway and horizon air’s concourse.
I killed about 20 minutes just gazing out the window then decided I should attempt to find my gate, I got up, collected my junk and then starting walking back through the jumble of people, and I see the same FA that was on my flight, so we stopped and talked for about 20 minutes about everything Aviation related. We talked about A.net, and his friend ( who is a photographer ) The new 800, and then just Alaska airlines in general. It was totally AWESOME conversation, and it made my day. He was on his way to his hotel, so we said goodbye, and I headed to find my gate.
I make it to C2F, and realize that I just walked by here not even an hour ago. Horizon air doesn’t have enough seats at these gates, so people were just up standing next to the massage bar, so I just joined the crowd over there. We stood there for about 20 minutes, until they announced boarding.

Because of our light load ( 13 ) They decided we could all board the Dash-8 all at once.
I headed down the stairs onto the tarmac, and made my way to door 5, and then out to the plane. It was named the Spirit of Pendleton or something similar. I hopped in, grabbed my exit row seat and got comfy.
As we had a really light load, the FA let everyone know they could sit where they wanted too. Everyone quickly moved around, then we pushed back not 5 minutes after sitting down. I wasn’t really paying much attention to anything, because I was talking to the FA and the gentleman across the aisle from me about Princess cruises, and why people would want to take a cruise to Alaska.
We taxied to the end of the runway, didn’t even have to wait in line, so I assume we were first in line. Powered up, and we were off on a very short 51 minute flight.
I grabbed my MP3 Player, and just kicked back.
Drink service then started. I got coke, as horizon has nasty Ginger ale, so I tend to stay away from it. They also gave us 3 little biscotti cookies.
The flight was quick, smooth and uneventful.
We touched down at about 8:15 Am, in Pasco, and taxied VERY quickly to the gate. I snapped a quick picture while walking into the airport.
That was pretty much the first part of the trip. My bag was of course the last one off the plane, but that wasn’t that big of a deal, with only 13 people on it.
My sister was at the airport waiting for me, picked me up, and I was on my way to enjoy 4 full days me not working! I wasn’t going to have to return until Monday ( the 9th )!

First off, I want to start this off by saying how EFFINE awesome Pasco airport is! I walk in, and this HUGE new sign that informed me that Pasco now has FREE WI-FI greeted me! That came in super handy after not being able to check my email while at my moms house.
Check-in was nothing spectacular, Nothing bad happened, and It probably took less than one minute to complete. My bag was checked all the way through to Fairbanks, and I was off to go through security.
Same ol’ routine there, laptop out, everything outa the pockets, and walk though. I didn’t beep (YAY) so I sat down right next to my gate ( 2 ) and pulled out my notebook so I could check some email.
Boarding started at about 650PM. And we were probably off the ground by 7:10, 5 minutes ahead of schedule.
This flight was super quick, less than 50 minutes. We took off, the FA did a crossword, and then served us two bags of peanuts, something I’ve not had on a plane in awhile, THEN I had yet another coke. (Remember the Ginger ale sucks on QX!)
We started our decent about 15 minutes later into a very cloudy/foggy Seattle Tacoma airport!
Pulled up to the same gate I departed out of only 4 days prior , and hurriedly made my way out of the plane to the rain soaked tarmac, then up the stairs to the terminal. Once In, I made my way to the Pacific market again to grab some dinner, as I was going to be here for a little while. It wasn’t too hard of a choice, BUT In the end, I ended up going with Wendy’s, then grabbed a chair right in front of the new 340sqft Window, and ate my grub.
It was already pretty dark so I didn’t stick around too long to spot, as you really couldn’t see anything. I made my short jaunt back to C-16, and took a seat and played the “hurry up and wait” game. I was pretty excited to get back onto the same plane that brought me here 4 days ago, because, well…it was just a really sweet plane.

Boarding began at about 9:30 PM and I would say everyone was on by 9:45, BUT There was an Alaska jet that was late, so the captain came on asking us if we would mind waiting, so they could make this flight as it was the last one to FAI today. (Like we really had a choice?)
It was really weird, But while I was in my seat, I saw one of my bosses sitting in first class, now THAT was a weird sight! Good thing I didn’t play hooky today like I originally planned!
At about 10:40pm (41 minutes past scheduled departure) we started taxing through the rain soaked airport. The captain came on, to tell us, that because of a tail wind, we would make it there right on time.
Drink service was simple yet affective; the first sweep was bags of TGIF potato skins followed by the actual beverage service. Followed yet again (not even 10 minutes later) by another beverage service. Awesome customer service!
And then here I am now, sitting in my 19C seat, writing my very first trip report. I wasn’t even going to, BUT A good friend of mine suggested that I do one.
Sorry that their arn't any pictures of the return home, basically it was just too dark to get any good pictures. I did try, But non really turned out.
I want to firstly apologize if this sucks! I don’t really know what everyone wants to know in a report, I read everyone else’s, and they rock, and mine probably won’t compare, BUT that’s okay I Guess. If anyone has any comments please do post, But I’m not into constructive criticism! :P (just kidding )

Great report!
I actually fly FAI-PSC all the time, being from eastern Oregon originally. I agree, the Pasco Airport is a GREAT alternative to flying to PDX and driving. It's just a great facility, and very convenient for NE Oregon/SE Washington.
I noticed that AS is using gates 6 and 8 at FAI the last few weeks, I wonder what the reason is. I imagine when DL and NW starting flying in on Friday that 8 will go back to NW like normal. I wonder where DL will come into--probably 6, I would think.

Firstly, Alaska Or Horizon? Awww, comon thats a hard choice. BUT I'd probably have to say Alaska...Just becuase they are my future employer! and they don't even know it yet!
Secondly...Yes Pasco is a good choice when flying to eastern oregon. ( myself being From La Grande ) Pendleton is always what I prefer, BUT I always seemed to get fogged in, or delayed and missed connecting flights. Boise wasn't bad, But any further than that, Either way and we were talking about having to drive over the night before a flight. ( PDX or SEA )

Small world, I'm from the Long Creek area (Grant County). I agree, PDT is the ideal airport for us but I have given up flying there unless it's the middle of summer or an emergency--that airport gets fogged in A LOT in the winter. I've never tried BOI; Pasco is just easier to get to for me.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip on AS and QX! Good pictures as well. Hope to hear more trip reports from you. Haven't been to the state of Alaska yet, definitely some place I would like to visit some time.

Nice report. I definitely will want to check out the new central terminal area when I head over to SEA in a couple weeks. I haven't flown AS in a couple years, but I always like them when they are on time .
And for your next report, grab a few cabin shots if you can. I would have loved to see the pictures of the new AS cabin that you talked about on the 738.
My job is to make it so your flight is not delayed. Come fly the friendly skies!

Ha, I was thinking I should do that, the ENTIRE time I was on both of those planes. But I kept thinking that the other people would think I was crazy. But After the flight, I had such bad leg cramps, I just want to get off the plane. BUT i'll be back on one of the 800's the 11th of june. SO i'll remeber to take a picture. ( I hope i remember )

Well, I'm extremely biased toward Boise, because I live there! But overall, the New Boise Airport terminal is MUCH better than the old terminal. When did you fly into Boise, spiritofalaska?
